There was a thread a couple of weeks about this case that got deleted. Obviously it's an ongoing trial but it's as we suspected with the defendent.

Murder-accused tells court parents did not accept her as transgender

Scarlet Blake, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with the murder of Jorge Carreno who was found in Parsons Pleasure.

The journalist clearly believes that TWAW. She has her pronouns in her Twitter bio, and gaily she/hers all the way through the podcast she's done. I'm not sure she even mentioned that Bell is male too.

SecondRow · 22/02/2024 18:24

Wnould they have had a reporter live blog nine or ten days of a bog standard man on man murder trial, in the normal course of events? I mean maybe, I don't know how many murders occur in Oxford. But it could also be the cat killer aspect that garnered attention at the outset.

ArabellaScott · 22/02/2024 18:51

The gruesome details of the cat, yes. But largely, a female alleged murderer is more news than a male.

DuesToTheDirt · 22/02/2024 20:09

It is a big crime for a woman, more mundane for non-women.

I'd say it's a pretty disturbing crime for anyone to commit, and I'm surprised it's buried in the local news section of the BBC. If it wasn't for this board I wouldn't be aware of it at all - though perhaps that would be a good thing.

I do find though, that seeing "woman" and "she" plastered all over the reports give me the rage. It's a horrible crime, with horrible stuff leading up to it, and I know that having it reported as being committed by a "woman" shouldn't be the main issue, but FFS, we are being lied to here.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/02/2024 20:30

I wonder if there will be more publicity if he is found guilty of the murder?

DuesToTheDirt · 22/02/2024 21:34

Re the "woman" nonsense, it's completely fucking infuriating. The BBC article just sprinkles "woman" throughout, with a quick mention of this person being trans, i.e. A FUCKING MAN.

On other threads, from Primark changing rooms to women's ponds, we have the word "woman" used to label spaces, but no-one agrees what that means any more. GC people say that means actual women, and trans people say, no, that word "women" includes male women, and we'll come in and use that space thank-you-very-much.

Is the podcast worth a listen? I was considering it since one of the closing speeches is behind a paywall and there's no article about the judge's summing up, either.

But the she/her-ing sounds jarring although unsurprising.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/02/2024 23:02

Is the podcast worth a listen?

Not really, she's highly annoying and doesn't say much that's not already been reported by her in the paper. She says she will do another one when the verdict arrives so obviously we're not going to get any summing up remarks.

Can you link the paywalled article? I can't find it.

Unremittingly grim - what a mess of a human being.

He's a transwoman.

duc748 · 23/02/2024 00:17

At the end of the day, the general public have a right to know, via the media, the facts regarding ongoing court cases. The sex of both the alleged victim and the alleged perp is obviously relevant, and to seek to obscure that is just not on. It is news management of the most sinister kind.

duc748 · 23/02/2024 00:19

In fact I'd like to see Starmer asked if he agrees that it's right to attempt to keep the sex of an alleged perp from the public.

exexpat · 23/02/2024 00:28

If you want to read a newspaper article that is behind a paywall, you can often find an archived copy on archive.is. Just copy and paste the url into the second search bar.

Puppysnot · 23/02/2024 09:10

His defence barrister is doing such a rubbish job. From the defences closing speech re: the animal abuse:

”“Cats, you may think, bring in dead birds of mice into your house and purr at your feet for your approval. Cats don’t know better but Scarlet Blake does,” he said.“

This is the DEFENCE not the prosecution.

also from the trial (day seven):

”Mr Sutton KC is now referring to a trip Blake took to America… he said there was an “aggravation” with “guns and stuff”.

Mr Sutton KC said he is “running out of topics”..”

Chersfrozenface · 23/02/2024 09:30

To be fair, the KC didn't have a lot to work with from the start.

But it does sound like he's pretty much given up. Can't say I blame him.

Good tip, thanks 😉

pickledandpuzzled · 23/02/2024 11:12

Wouldn’t a bad defence give grounds for a retrial? I mean,
the defendant knows better than to kill stuff and be happy
in America there were aggravating factors like guns
I’m running out of things to say in defence…

I get where he’s coming from but I’d hate it to have consequences.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 23/02/2024 11:20

Mr Sutton has seen the light, I think.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/02/2024 12:24

The evidence for Blake actually killing Jorge Carreno is mostly circumstantial though.

pickledandpuzzled · 23/02/2024 14:19

I was thinking about this guy today. I wonder whether his trans status, though beyond doubt, is a red herring.

I wonder whether he took on the trans status as a ‘special circumstance’ to force people to make allowances for him, to garner attention and so on. A bolt on rather than a core part of who he is.

This isn’t a statement about any other trans people- they come in all sorts- but some seem to be to be using the status rather than trying to alleviate some inner discomfort of whatever kind.

I feel the trans identity has come out of Internet culture though. There is a quote in the trial where very early on he introduces himself to his (also trans) lover as “just your typical internet trans cat girl” which is a very well known trope. The lover also talks about finally have a “big booby goth girlfriend” which is again another internet trope.

pickledandpuzzled · 23/02/2024 14:30

ok. Maybe internet fetish type then.

Though actually why the hell am I trying to understand? The bloke’s a weirdo. No need to classify the type!

SecondRow · 23/02/2024 14:35

I'm thinking the names Scarlet and Blake are derived from some manga/anime/furry universe characters, just from apparently unrelated posts I've seen when searching for updates on Twitter. Mentions of oestrogen coincide with the names. Didn't want to delve too deep into all that.

I think it’s normal to try and look for sense in a senseless situation. We also all want to know what caused someone to take this path. From the trial his parents are both medical doctors (one living and working in Oxford) so i am assuming he had opportunities and some level of wealth so its sad and worrying that an individual with such opportunities has reverted to spending 20 hrs a day online, being brainwashed by fetish stuff and ultimately killing someone. I feel the same about Constance Marten and her wealth although the circumstances and crime is different.
