Lesbian members club to only allow biological women

JanesLittleGirl · 18/02/2024 12:52

"A FEMINIST campaigner is to open the UK’s first lesbian members bar that will only allow biological women to join.

The bar, named the L Community, is due to open in London later this year and will operate as a private members club so that it can bar trans women.

The bar has been set up by Jenny Watson, who in September last year was at the centre of a transphobia row after she insisted only “adult human females” could attend the lesbian speed-dating events she had organised."

Maybe offer to sponsor a membership for a woman who is eligible but can't afford to join?

I like that idea

theilltemperedclavecinist · 21/02/2024 14:42

@DadJoke this is just the toilet argument all over again isn't it?

Nobody wants TWs to have no toilet provision, or no places they can meet and date lesbians.

But women also want there to be male-free equivalents available. What's wrong with that? This venture looks highly likely to pay for itself.

LesbianNan · 21/02/2024 14:43

Some people really really don't want this club to happen.
I'm looking forward to it. I shall catch the train to London to My Club.
(Plus I've never seen real lesbians confuse a butch lesbian for a man EVER)
Lol!

SamW98 · 21/02/2024 14:46

As a straight woman I don’t have any skin in this game however I’m just wondering why if there’s so many TW inclusive lesbian events already happening, why anyone is concerned about ONE private members club for gay biological women.
No one is losing anything that don’t already currently have so how is anyone put out by this? Just carry on going to the inclusive events and ignore this one - it’s not difficult

YouJustDoYou · 21/02/2024 14:47

DadJoke · 21/02/2024 14:29

@YouJustDoYou once again, you think that I have suggested this club should not exist. I have not. Nor have I said anyone has to date anyone.

The vast majority of lesbians accept trans women as women. A woman attracted to a woman is a lesbian. Attempting to impose your narrow-minded views on the vast majority of lesbians is absolutely on-point for gender critical people.

Attempting to impose your narrow-minded, homophobic, misogynistic, and bigoted views on lesbians is absolutely on-point for AGPs and TRAs.

"The vast majority of lesbians"...lol. Ok, you keep telling yourself that.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/02/2024 15:08

suggestionsplease1 · 21/02/2024 14:01

The lesbians I know wouldn't want to be part of this simply because they don't share those values of exclusionary attitudes towards trans people, and you want to spend time, build friendships and potential relationships with people who share similar values to yourself, generally.

Luckily then those lesbians already have lots of spaces where they can mingle with such company.

So it really shouldn't be a problem for others to enjoy a venue like this one .

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/02/2024 15:13

I still can't believe that it's 2024 and they're are still people who believe a woman can have a penis. Unreal.

Its a bit of a paradox isn't it?
The gender critical are such a tiny minority fringe while the overhwelming vast majority aren't gender critical. And yet... When this tiny insignificant fringe minority try and build any space for themselves, it's the most massive hysterical end of the world problem.
How can something so small trigger people so much?
Lesbian dating and Overcoming the Cotton Ceiling. Giggle. The LGBA charity existing. JKR's Beira's Place. Any two females having any conversation about women without including penises. Stonewall calling same sex atracted people "Sexual Racists".

I believe The Earth is ( roughly ) sphere shaped. I am aware of the existence of flat earthers, I think they are wrong but I respect their right to believe what I think is utter baloney. I have no wish to stop them meeting. I have no wish to convert their flat earth conferences to be sphere earth inclusive. I have no wish to do violence against them. I really enjoyed watching Behind The Curve (2018) - a movie following a few leading figures in the flat earth movement. I would love to attend a flat earth conference just to say hello and talk to them before I die. They are a small fringe group doing their own thing. I'm happy they are having fun. I don't feel threatened by anything they do or say.

Why does gender critical people forming their own spaces upset and enrage gender idealogues so much?

JFDIYOLO · 21/02/2024 17:00

All the very best to her! If she's on here, I hope she sees this thread. 🤗💐

Kathleen Stock is right - it's about the right of freedom of association - I have little problem with that.

And parallel to and in line with that of course I assert my freedom of dissociation from values I find unattractive.

And that's where a lot of lesbians are with this - quite frankly they don't want to be tarred with this trans-exclusionary brush, and knowing that people are prone to errant cognitive biases and hear of something like this and think these attitudes are representative of all/ most lesbians, they naturally speak up to refute their association.

Froodwithatowel · 21/02/2024 17:19

I think lesbians who want male-free lesbian spaces really don't care about who wants to refute anything.

But you crack on making your point that in your opinion women wanting anything away from men is very very shameful and wrong. And your opinion that any good lesbian woman should be happy to validate men with her body. It's loud and stinkingly clear.

IwantToRetire · 21/02/2024 17:19

ADoggyDogWorld · 21/02/2024 08:22

Any ways back to the OP.

Best wishes to Jenny, she's a mighty woman.

Yet another thread derailed. This is a positive story about women's sex based rights, and specifically lesbian rights.

And yet the thread has devaited off to respond to what in fact is totally irrelevant to the story. About whether a small or large % of lesbians having a space of their own.

And whilst it is amusing at it shows why some women, and specifically lesbians want their own space.

Because if they/we dont have it, women are no longer allowed to explore and advance their interests, on their own terms, but are forced to take into account what men think and how men dominate.

Couldn't we design some signal we agree on that says we can see what is going on, and we are not going to collude with it.

You make a frequent habit of misrepresenting me.

Is it because you are insecure of your own position?

It really shouldn't be necessary to do if you have confidence in your own position.

Froodwithatowel · 21/02/2024 17:31

It really shouldn't be necessary to try and shame women and paint them as morally repulsive for wanting to be homosexual and mean a sex based definition that does involve men.

And yet here we are.

I really have no interest in what you think of me, I really don't. I just want a space to be homosexual where men are not trying to nag and shame and bully me into believing I have to do straight sex. Because I find that morally far more repulsive than women saying no to men.

Which country are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

It's just that I can't imagine any lesbian in the UK talking about 'a space to be homosexual' but maybe this phrasing is more common elsewhere?

Froodwithatowel · 21/02/2024 17:37

I use the word homosexual, to deal with the confusion created over the word lesbian being a mixed sex term.

I am a female homosexual. And proud of it.

Froodwithatowel · 21/02/2024 17:38

Adult human females who are attracted to adult human females ( Lesbians) don't do dick. Fact. Posting otherwise on here doesn't magically change that fact.

I'm sure there is a lovely transwoman claiming to be a lesbian out there for you somewhere. If that's your thing then go for it. Perhaps you will meet at Minto's. I hope that you'll live happily ever after

I'll meet some adult human females at my club thanks..

Indeed.

And woman attracted to a transwoman is either heterosexual or bi.

lostwithoutpronouns · 21/02/2024 17:48

Lesbian sets up a male-free club for lesbians. Males turn up to tell us lesbians don't want male-free clubs.

lechiffre55 · 21/02/2024 17:53

There's a clue in the word homosexual. It literally means same sex.
I think you are getting it confused with the word homogenderwoowoowhateverthefuck

DadJoke · 21/02/2024 17:59

MadeOfAllWork · 21/02/2024 14:34

So if the vast majority of lesbian accept TWAW and you have no problem with this club existing, what point are you trying to make?

The point I originally made before I was accused of making all sorts of other points I didn't make. That is, it's unlikely to be commercially viable.

TempleOfBloom · 21/02/2024 18:02

Well done Jenny and may her club thrive and lesbian women everywhere enjoy all the spaces they need in celebration, peace and dignity.

No need for all of those rabid TRAs to worry then, is there?
