Lesbian members club to only allow biological women

JanesLittleGirl · 18/02/2024 12:52

"A FEMINIST campaigner is to open the UK’s first lesbian members bar that will only allow biological women to join.

The bar, named the L Community, is due to open in London later this year and will operate as a private members club so that it can bar trans women.

The bar has been set up by Jenny Watson, who in September last year was at the centre of a transphobia row after she insisted only “adult human females” could attend the lesbian speed-dating events she had organised."

I'll get an archive link in a bit.

There are hundreds of "trans exclusionary" places in the UK Mosques, gay saunas, nunneries, monasteries etc.

No protests outside them - just the lesbian bar for some reason.

I am not a lesbian but want to join to show solidarity!

I've emailed to ask.

And as they shout 'bigot', it will present a really lovely opportunity to teach the general public about the term 'DARVO' and how it applies to controlling and abusive men with serious problems when it comes to women.

It really will.

Interesting that these men feel that making out and getting off with each other (ie as much sex as they can get away with in public), is an intimidatory tactic.

Talk about prove everyone's point, and then advertise it.

And yes to the irony, sorry, rank hypocrisy, of 'none of this list of people are invited'.

And also yes to all the women inside enjoying female company and not giving a flying fuck about the communal whine going on outside.

Perhaps lots of women being there with buckets of cold water might help them make their point?

Isn’t Shivani Dave a female?

Isn’t Shivani Dave a female?

I did wonder.

But the sentiments the same.

I'd love a journalist to go up to her/him and ask why lesbians couldn't have a female only place.

It would be glorious. And I'd like them to ask whether trans people could have a trans only place.

Justme56 · 22/02/2024 10:09

Isn’t Shivani Dave a female?

Plenty of handmaidens about.

But their agenda is to enforce male supremacism and control and the punishment of females who resist this. They're just an extension of the male people driving it. I'm losing interest in why some women are driven like this, I really don't care any more about the why, I've given it enough head space. I just now want them to fuck off and do their thing happily a very long way from me, while leaving me and other women who don't want to be the football in their personal games alone.

And they can't.

I wonder would it be as controversial if a gay men’s bar opened and wanted only gay men to join? i.e. no vaginas allowed? I’m trying to get my head around it?

The Eagle, Newcastle, is a pub with a men-only dark room downstairs.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/02/2024 11:10

Always interesting to note the male posters who descend on threads about lesbians to promote their "include the penis" demands.

Froodwithatowel · 22/02/2024 11:14

You can almost hear the panicked call in the wind "quiiiiiick there's another one getting away!"

BezMills · 22/02/2024 11:22

yeah the difference between the success of men-only vs women-only areas starkly indicates the power difference between them.

Man Place : Exists
Woman tries to enter Man Place
Man Place Person "Fuck off this is just for men, there's a love"
Woman "fair"
(end of situation)
Man Place : exists

Woman Place : Exists
Man tries to enter Woman Place
Woman Place Person "Do you mind, we're doing Woman Stuff here, you're not invited, because you're not a Woman"
Man "You are threatening my very existence, I'm telling twitter on you"
Man : tells twitter
Man : tells police
Man : Gets Stoneballs involved
Man : Never lets up for fuckin years about it
Woman Place : No Longer Exists

The point I originally made before I was accused of making all sorts of other points I didn't make. That is, it's unlikely to be commercially viable.

Mate, just cut to the chase and explain why you have a problem with same sex attracted women. Are you just generally homophobic, or is it more about wanting to police and control women and this is just an extension of that?

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 22/02/2024 12:26

The L Community website mentions bisexual women a couple of times. I'm not in The Smoke but may write to ask if I am welcome in the online forums.

Why would a bunch of lesbians care that some people are snogging outside?

Quite,a cunning plan that's not so cunning after all.

It's risible, isn't it? Like there's not enough lesbians in London to sustain a lesbian only bar 😁

Hell, there's virtually enough on this thread.

There are dozens of gay men's saunas in the UK. No one is trying to get them closed down. Wonder why?

I really don't see why a group of well off women cannot finance, sustain or maintain a bar that caters only for their beliefs. If you vet your members as private clubs do then it works well.

One of the pressure points on this stuff has been landlords getting intimidated. Find the right one or own the property and the issue is removed. Then it's a public order problem outside the premises.

The support and comments from FWR are cheering me up no end. You are very funny as well as sharp and knowing.Flowers

Yep.

Kinda reminds me of how there aren’t enough terves to fund a tribubal case (so we must be be getting funding from American anti abortionists or somesuch).

RunsWithDinosaurs · 22/02/2024 14:18

I really miss the old lesbian venues and nights and hope this new venture can sustain itself. Glass Bar, Southopia, Girl Friday at First Out… So many great places. And if I remember correctly both Glass Bar and Southopia were run as private member’s clubs with the option to buy a membership for the night. I wonder if Jenny will offer that option or if she’ll need to have more of a membership process in the current climate.

I think there’s some truth to lesbians using these venues to couple off and then staying at home but some like Glass Bar and Southopia were absolutely the kind of places I’d want to go on a date night with my wife now and I think women did then too?

I do remember very vividly meeting up with a group when first coming out in my early 20s and a middle aged trans identified man joining us a couple of times. In retrospect I’m sure he was AGP as I remember staring at his long manicured nails and thinking about the joke - “what do you call a lesbian with long nails?” and naively wondering if someone ought to tell him!! Although it was a mixed age group he was definitely older than most of us “newbies” by at least a couple of decades and I also remember thinking what on earth would he have in common with a bunch of teen/early twenties lesbians. Now I just feel sick thinking about him. Mostly I just remember feeling incredibly uncomfortable and wanting to find an opportunity to stop making small talk and get away to spend time with the other women and then feeling bad about myself that I felt that way. This would have been 24 years ago so this incursion into lesbian spaces isn’t new!

RunsWithDinosaurs · 22/02/2024 14:19

Anyway, all this to say. I hope it survives long enough that the wife and I can go and enjoy being in each other’s company without the watchful eyes of straight or alphabet soup venues.

Again, you are simply making stuff up I haven't said. I can only think it's projection.

fromorbit · 22/02/2024 14:27

I think the bar could do well simply because old bars died off in the early 2000s onwards because lesbians felt they could safely go to mainstream places.

However the shameful fact is being a homosexual woman is more under pressure than it was in the 90s.

The conditions which made lesbian safe spaces necessary have reappeared.
