Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

If Labour has women's backs, how to explain their deafening silence in response to Rosie Duffield, the Edinburgh rape support panjandrum, the illegal bullying of Jo Phoenix, and countless other examples?

GailBlancheViola · 05/02/2024 18:28

Quite @NoWordForFluffy . Love your username btw I have a very close German friend who I tease with that refrain!

blackadder goes forth george GIF

It's rare anybody recognises its origin!

lifeturnsonadime · 05/02/2024 19:23

36 pages of Adam saying the same thing over and over and over and over again.

Yawn.

Not good enough.

Perhaps if Adam expended her energy on lobbying the Labour Party to do the right thing by women then we could all stop these circular discussions and actually vote for the party we (mostly speaking) want to vote for!

Clabony · 05/02/2024 19:35

Oh, and I'm a solicitor. If I'm asked what a woman is, I say 'adult human female' because I'm not an utter fuckwit. I don't go around spouting legalese in my every day life (particularly because you're specifically trained at law school to use accurate, easy-to-understand, language in your communication)

Ditto. Now retired. Decades working for the Trades Union and Labour Movement.

Starmer's a professional bullshitter. Snake oil salesman. Doesn't need a lawyer to spot it.

MatchingBedding · 05/02/2024 20:34

There’s a thread running currently on AIBU saying about not voting labour because they don’t know what a woman is. It looks pretty similar to this one. I won’t vote labour this time, I’m voting for our independent.

So there is. Quite the eye-opener. And the AIBU is not with the latest event we are discussing here either - just their general shitty sex fudge position. Still MNers seem rather pissed off.

Still (🎶all together now 🎵)...

Nobody Cares About This
There Are More Important Things Than Genderism
Except That Genderism Is Really Important to Being Good
Only 6 Non-Genderists (and Their Socks) In The World So You Are Irrelevant
If You Say You Are Upset with Labour, You Were Always A Tory Voter So You Are Even More Irrelevant Anyway

EasternStandard · 06/02/2024 08:22

I’m pretty sure those AIBU voting threads would be chucked out to here with everyone going nuts at seeing at

Vote is majority yanbu on this one which is good to see

GailBlancheViola · 06/02/2024 08:24

Has the hectoring Labour Lecturer descended on the AIBU thread to tell them all how wrong they are yet?

NoWordForFluffy · 06/02/2024 08:52

There are a good view vote scolders on there. Most of the usual suspects.

The collective disbelief that not everybody who can't vote Labour isn't just a usual Tory voter is exceptionally frustrating. The attitude absolutely stinks from the fervent supporters.

MatchingBedding · 06/02/2024 08:52

@GailBlancheViola yes. Many times.

There are a good view vote scolders on there. Most of the usual suspects.

And the ones that go on about ‘no one cares’

LWSnow · 06/02/2024 09:44

Do you know, I'm a floating voter, I always vote but I've voted for all political parties in the past. Seeing the behaviour of some of the posters on here has permanently changed my mind about the Labour party. I can't vote Lib Dem because they are fully trans committed and not in a good way. I might vote for the Greens If there's anything left of them after all their Court cases about their behaviour towards women and Shahrar Ali. At the moment they have been taken over by men's rights activists.
As I said my local Tory MP is a supporter of women's rights and is allowed by her party to say so. So she's getting my vote when she stands.

Kucinghitam · 06/02/2024 09:46

All these threads go the same way.

People say they are politically homeless because of this, and other people rock up to scold, lecture and hector...

The Self-Identified Good Parties are Owed Everybody's Votes. If You Don't Vote Against the Bad Parties, You Are Evil/Stupid.

Here's A List of Stuff That Is Important To Good People, If You Don't Adhere Precisely To This List You Are Evil/Stupid.

And the clincher...

Well You Were Always A Bad Party Shill Anyway, You Are Lying About Your Previous Political Position, So You Are Irrelevant.

EasternStandard · 06/02/2024 09:50

Also these posters that go on about no one cares also go on about Starmer ‘changing’

I mean he hasn’t but he has realised that politically it’s a shit move

That’s down to women speaking up. The no one cares lot did nothing, in fact worse tried to make sure politicians didn’t have to change at all

Tf for the women who do care

EasternStandard · 06/02/2024 10:30

Laughing at the other thread Labour lot really don’t like it coming up

I’ll take heart that at least the majority feel as I do on that one, when it all goes to shit we can blame people together

RebelliousCow · 06/02/2024 10:49

The whole thing is a total shit show in the making. It is inevitable.

  1. What does 'making things easier' for trans people ( i.e male people) look like in practice - certainly if you say you are also committed to retaining single sex provisions and exemptions whereby male people can be excluded?
  2. What is the actual purpose of an easier to obtain GRC ( effectively Self ID) if not to remove 'blockages' such as the rights to dignity and privacy of women and girls in the form of single sex spaces, services and sports?
  3. What does someone having a GRC mean for everyone else? Are there certain expectations on them - and if so, what are they?

Labour really have not thought any of this through at all. It is going to be a total legal and logistical quagmire. They have usurped critical reasoning for short term brownie points and fudge.

Clabony · 06/02/2024 10:56

My MP has stopped describing herself as a lesbian.
She's now LGBT.
She can fuck right off with that carry on as far as I'm concerned.

AdamRyan · 06/02/2024 12:07

Oh you are all funny. Such fragile egos that you see a discussion as "scolding".

EasternStandard · 06/02/2024 12:11

Haha

I’m enjoying the Labour lot going nuts on the other thread

The obligatory ‘I’m GC but..’ 😬

You've got a very fragile view of what going nuts means if that's nuts for you 😂
