Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

In 91 constituencies the Lib dems were in second place in the last election, often to the tories. Vote for "change" in one of those and children lose any protection from gender ideology.

Many of us have been either holding our noses and voting against the tories or spoiling ballot papers, now Kier has blown that.

I mean that's not true is it, the Conservatives have a huge majority from previously Labour seats. I thought accepted wisdom was Labour were holding their noses to avoid a corbyn premiership and "get brexit done"

Oh, and in my opinion there is no evidence whatsoever that the Conservatives intend to do anything about womens rights. Their stated position is the same as Labour. Its all hot air and empty promises at the moment.

I'm happy to be persuaded but I need more than "Kemi is looking at it" to be convinced. Maria Miller looked at it and proposed self ID. Liz Truss looked at it and proposed a quicker, cheaper, "kinder" GRC process Confused.

Conservative party leader said woman is an adult human female.

Labour party leader said some women have a penis.

Redcar78 · 31/01/2024 16:30

I can't believe there are still people willing to give Starmer the benefit of doubt, he showed exactly what he thought of women when he blocked prosecution of grooming gangs as head of the CPS, he knew exactly what was happening but it was young girls (the usual kind) so they didn't matter 🤷‍♀️ I'll never vote for him.

AdamRyan · 31/01/2024 16:32

That's just a made up smear though redcar. He did no such thing.

Thats what I mean. Don't vote for him, fine. Not voting for him on the basis of some totally made up "facts", you are being taken for a mug by someone.

lifeturnsonadime · 31/01/2024 16:33

And so we go round in circles.

Define Female when the GRA (introduced by Labour) allows some men to have female on their birth certificate.

Unless and until Labour commit that the meaning of female excludes all males , even those with documents which say they are female thanks to the legislation THE LABOUR PARTY introduced I don't believe a word they say on this issue.

Flowers4me · 31/01/2024 16:34

There you go; one minute he says a women is an adult female then next he says some can have a penis. Maybe he'll come up with a different definition tomorrow. This is just the issue with Starmer; flips all over the place. He can't be trusted.

Chersfrozenface · 31/01/2024 16:35

That Telegraph story is from July last year. Starmer's words in the article in the OP are from 29 January i.e. two days ago.

AdamRyan · 31/01/2024 16:37

redcar here is an article from his time as DPP about what he was doing to help vulnerable victims of crime

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/dpp-keir-starmer-issues-tough-new-guidelines-for-child-sex-cases-aimed-at-securing-more-convictions-8884957.html

It's one of the reasons I'm a fan, he did loads to improve conviction rates for rape and sexual abuse, sadly a lot was undone by the next DPP Alison Saunders. But he is someone who has actually helped women before he came into politics.

DPP Keir Starmer issues tough new guidelines for child sex cases aimed

‘Fundamental attitude shift’ announced in the way victims are treated in court

And two days ago the Leader of the Labour Party confirmed that it will make the process of men being legally female easier.

So Adult Human Female will mean women + any man who gets his documents falsified using the GRA.

This is why he can't be trusted.

The Conservatives are also committed to making the GRC process easier. They reduced the cost to a nominal sum and put the process online. They want to make the process "kinder". Or does that not count?

Of course not they’re all over the shop

If you don't hold all the parties to that, it's double standards. Are the Conservatives committing to that? Is any party?

Flowers4me · 31/01/2024 16:41

Do you work for Labour Adam? You're working very hard at trying to convince us that the tories are as bad as labour, so we might as well vote Labour. I'm still not voting labour, LOL.

But they (The Conservatives) also want the provisions of the Equality Act to make it clear that exceptions for single sex spaces exclude legal females (i.e. TW with false documents). That is what Kemi is talking about.

But to be honest I don't give a shit what the Conservatives will do.

I am talking about what Labour will not do which is put women and children first on this issue.

How fucking disappointing.

They caused this legal fiction which harms women and don't give a fuck.

lifeturnsonadime · 31/01/2024 16:44

I think that Adam must work for them as he appears to turn up on every thread with the same 'you must vote labour wims' argument.

No we don't have to vote for Labour at all.

They don't deserve our vote.

anyolddinosaur · 31/01/2024 16:45

@AdamRyan Women were less likely to vote for Brexit than men.

IME people who said "they are all just as bad" didnt vote and were often people you might have expected to be Labour . They didnt feel Labour were listening to them when they voted for Brexit so they voted for the tories. Labour is not listening to voter dissatisfaction now and it's losing women.

You want us to believe Labour are not just lying politicians and yet Kier can say women can have a penis. The left wing SNP havent exactly encouraged faith in the competence or probity of the left wing. The 2010 cash for influence scandal involved mps from both Labour and the tories.

They said that in a report two years ago. Since then some of them have noticed which way the wind is blowing and they've done nothing about it, effectively kicking it inti the long grass

This issue has blown up in last few years

Most people can see how it has changed

Men are getting more emboldened for a start

He is a lawyer dinosaur. Legally yes, some women have penises. Ridiculous but a statement of fact. He didn't cause that. He's just being a lawyer with his answer.

EasternStandard · 31/01/2024 16:50

‘A lawyer response’

The difference being that the Tories have changed their minds in the right direction and Labour in the wrong direction.

I'm not a man and couldn't give a shiny shit who you vote for.
I object to smears and misinformation. And on a personal level I'm terrified what another 5 years of tory corruption, lying, incompetence, and financial mismanagement will do to the UK. Lots of people are on the bare bones of their arses. Dying waiting for treatment. Kids can't get mental health support. Can't recruit enough teachers. Shit in the seas and rivers. More and more women and children in poverty. Why anyone is voting for more of that I don't understand.

ResisterRex · 31/01/2024 16:55

I don't want a lawyer's answer in my PM. I want someone with political convictions and some balls to say what they think out loud.
