I just want to thank all these women for speaking out for women despite the obstacles put in their place. It's getting easier for the rest of us now.

@Boiledbeetle does a great job of galvanising us all. And @mumsnetjustine lets her. Both deserve a pint of Prosecco

Apart from the day where mnhq emailed earlier in the day to basically say good luck with book two and the same staff member a few hours later had to email to tell me they had temporarily banned me from Mumsnet for impersonating another user and could I get in touch! That was a very fraught 15 minutes I can tell you!

So many amazing women whose shoulders we stand on…

This board has definitely helped me to see through the BS and become more vocal, especially the posts of Frood, Datun, ArabellaScott, BoiledBeetle and more. It has been a fascinating, terrifying, frustrating journey.

For the TERF bar, another post alerted me to Virago in Leeds, who are hosting a Vino & Vent Salon next month. Can’t comment on whether terf bras will be worn, but dogs almost certainly welcome.

Sean Ingle.

He's been great.

Oliver Brown? Isn't poor Sean stuck at the Guardian?
Another male ally - Ross Tucker - scienceofsport on twitter.

Indeed, we see further because we are standing on the shoulders of giantesses..(thank you Bernard of Chartres).

Whenever I've met any of these amazing pp in real life, I've made a point of thanking them personally as I feel so incredibly grateful for how hard they've worked, their courage, how much they've sacrificed and the impact it's made. I love meeting my heroes in real life and they've always been absolutely lovely!

Yes Sean Ingle is at the Guardian, and he had some how been managing to get factual articles about male athletes in female sport into that paper since at least as long ago as 2018, very, very carefully letting Guardian Sport readers know that there is 'another side' to the debate and keeping his language as factually clear as he could.

Sean was the only sports writer discussing this for quite a long time. And he was doing this despite being at the Guardian, with Chief Sports Writer Jonathan Liew of "even if transwomen did have an advantage and won everything in women's sport, who cares? It's only women's sport, it's not actually important"-fame.

I have huge respect for Sean.

Forgot about James Kirkup! Another early one.

He said at the beginning "I'm only writing about this because nobody else other than Janice Turner is, and she's getting hounded because she's female whereas my penis protects me. The media and politicians need to do their job and debate this. When that starts happening, I'll stop."

And I think he has now stopped. He really helped build us to our critical mass.

Andrew Gilligan in the Times to was another very early one.

I saw someone on Twitter saying they were starting a "TERF bar" where only women were allowed in and one of the security was a convicted murderer who would ask questions about periods "only real women could answer" or something. It sounded very bizarre.

Of course you did.

I'm very grateful for the women on here 5-8 years ago — most of whom HQ booted off MN because men told them to —who kept reminding us that NO men were women, not even the nice ones, and held that firm line, explaining it again and again, making thousands (tens of, hundreds of thousands?) of women able to think and talk it through too.

Barracker, LangCleg, AngryAttackKittens, Ro, Datun, Dittany, to name but a few.

(Just remembered that MNHQ banned women from asking politicians on the webchats about women's rights, deleting posts before our very eyes and banning the women. And we wonder why politicians claim "nobody ever asks me about this, its a non issue").

Wasn’t Kellie Jean Kean banned from here because she refused to say men could become women. I believe she posted as Posy Parker (this is before my time)

lady69 · 28/01/2024 09:46

thanking Dennis Kavanagh and Clive Simpson too.

ArabellaScott · 28/01/2024 09:56

Thanks to Johann Lamont and the other very brave Labour MSPs who stood up and fought for 'sex not gender' in the Scottish Parliament.

Thanks to Joanna Cherry, Ash Regan, Joan McAlpine for their immense bravery and integrity fighting for women in the SNP.

Thanks to Rachael Hamilton and Pam Gosal of the Conservatives for their standing up for women during the GRR consultation process.

When it comes to Scottish Greens, thanks to Andy Wightman and Robin Harper.

Terfenheimerama · 28/01/2024 10:07

Sarah (‘men know what a woman is in Holbeck’ speech) Field. Very brave, very early (2018).
