There may already be a thread but I didn’t spot one. Wanted to flag this (rather unexpected!) interview.

Brefugee I think it was a bold description of the Malaga airport types of which we are not to speak.

However, given that MN quoted "the sexual kinks of middle-aged men in frocks" themselves, does this now mean we can also use the phrase "the sexual kinks of middle-aged men in frocks" ourselves? Or just in quote marks?

asterel · 24/01/2024 10:41

I’m also keen to know whether I’m allowed to use the phrase when it isn’t considered a “sweeping generalisation”. For example, if I was to say “these cases, below, very specifically refer to the sexual kinks of some very specific middle aged men in frocks, who don’t at all represent any generalised idea of middle aged men in frocks more widely”?

Just testing for clarity.

Autogynephilia - same meaning.

Brefugee · 24/01/2024 10:57

to be fair to MN i did ask them to remove my post after i also read the modding guidelines for FWR (which i think are... uneven compared to the sweeping generalisations that are allowed to be made elsewhere. But it is their sandbox we're playing in)

I do wonder, though, at the "you can't generalise" and then we have to put up with "oh the GC are at it again"? what, all of us? But that's a discussion for elsewhere, i think.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/01/2024 11:12

It was a bit of a 'sweeping generalisation' though. And inaccurate too. Sometimes they wear leggings, pink ones, and, I'm told, bobble hats 🤢

WarriorN · 24/01/2024 11:18

Blablafishcakes on Twitter has looked into Zoe's claims of imbalance and found that there's been x3 more Gender celebrationists than critical on WH

Very useful info

thanks, just came here to post that list

duc748 · 24/01/2024 11:43

Journalism in action. Dishonest, or just lazy, Zoe?

IcakethereforeIam · 24/01/2024 11:49

Confirmation bias.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 24/01/2024 14:22

She is being told what to think maybe?

SinnerBoy · 24/01/2024 15:37

If you want to have your opinion formed from reading journalists, you probably can't go wrong by reading Zoe. Whatever she thinks, you should probably think the opposite!

HoneyButterPopcorn · 24/01/2024 16:40

Maybe she is just being a good girl and doing whatever editor says? So maybe she needs to step up and pick her side carefully.

RoyalCorgi · 24/01/2024 20:27

I've been thinking about how so many OU academics, who are supposed to be critical thinkers, showed themselves to be incoherent and illogical in the tribunal. And also about Zoe Williams, who seems to be quite incapable of rational thought. I've always assumed it's to do with peer pressure and social conformity, but this article by James Marriott (not specifically about the trans issue) has really clarified it for me (sorry, don't have share token):

Like the Traitors, we’re hostage to groupthink

The TV show reflects an age in which we judge ideas on their popularity, not their originality

HoneyButterPopcorn · 24/01/2024 20:35

Oh I don’t know. A relative of mine helped write one of the courses back in the day.

I can absolutely imagine him smirking ’so why don’t believe that sex is purely biological, ehhhh?’ Not because he would have believed that humans can change sex but just to be provocative and show how smart he was at arguing a dumb point of view.

duc748 · 24/01/2024 21:34

@RoyalCorgi Ha! Chatting to my DS on the phone the other day, and he said, are you watching Traitors? And I said no, perhaps a little sharply (I'd only seen a trailer, and thought it looked awful). That's a good piece; I sent it to him.

LWSnow · 24/01/2024 21:34

I'm absolutely sure that it's academics who fell into the trap of getting into intellectual debates about sev/gender.
women like KJK don't give a shit about debating fine points, they can clearly see and say ITS A MAN. And refuse to use preferred pronouns as they see it as a step towards acceptance that a change of sex has taken place, which we know is impossible

JuneFTW · 24/01/2024 21:54

Thank you so much for posting the interview link - very powerful but so sad. What an amazing woman! I'm glad the tide seems to be changing.

Is there anyone who works in NHS HR who fancies taking one for the team?

I've just come across a course that teaches HR staff in the NHS about gender identity, including both how to "support trans and non-binary employees more effectively" and "balance the rights of trans and non-binary staff with those who hold 'gender critical' beliefs."

It seems as if it's finally dawning on people that the Forstater, Bailey and Phoenix judgements can't be ignored. I would love to know whether this course is giving an accurate account of the judgements and their implications for employers.

I have to do online training at work. I keep failing the genderwang one because the wording is just all wrong and it misrepresents the Equality Act.

If anyone is in WRN it could be worth asking around in there?
