There may already be a thread but I didn’t spot one. Wanted to flag this (rather unexpected!) interview.

Womans Hour starts at 10am

Zoe Williams has an interesting take:

Ah! I've literally posted on her twitter, copied your post here and she's banned me already!

Mollyollydolly · 23/01/2024 13:55

Kathleen Stock's reaction to Zoe. She's so right.

Has Helen Joyce done a SAR at the BBC to find out why she's apparently blacklisted?

Oh I don't know, that would be interesting.

duc748 · 23/01/2024 14:03

When you thought your opinion of Zoe Williams couldn't get any lower...

She really is an appalling woman. I wonder if Jo will get on Newsnight or the like? The point made by a PP than the OU know there are more cases in the pipeline is significant, I think.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/01/2024 14:09

I haven't been able to listen to all of the interview with Prof. Phoenix yet, it's too upsetting so I've been listening in short chunks. But I do have to mentally leave it now and again. Poor woman, the pain in her voice is hard to hear. It's impossible to imagine how anyone could have listened to it and approached it from the angle that Zoe has, that by allowing Prof. Phoenix to tell her own story in her own words on a show about women's issues, trans people have somehow suffered an injustice or deprivation.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/01/2024 14:12

You're not wrong. I found this on her twiX. I'm pretty sure that's an Australian shepherd 😍.

Although the dog, that might be a collie 😁

Kathleen Stock's reaction to Zoe. She's so right.

That is a very interesting phrase: "a binary power grab". I suppose that's any fundamentalism really. But so incredibly ironic for an ideology that claims to disrupt binaries to be so determinedly binary by nature.
Drawing lines in the sand and judging by who is on one side or the other. Painting labels of whatever-phobia, heretic, unclean on people. I was wondering how many of the people doing this to Jo Phoenix were women. Enthusiastic allies paying their dues to some sort of God who will absolve them of sin and shame. Jo's story doesn't seem to help those who have already swallowed the pill but it might help inoculate others.

Professor Wootton at York uni, and a number of academics in the replies...

I hope this judgement sends quakes through every academic institution

Oblomov23 · 23/01/2024 14:35

OU are in cloud cuckoo land if they think we all aren't disgusted and appalled. What planet are they on?

Noshowlomo · 23/01/2024 14:38

It’s on instagram. The page is followed by a lot of high profile accounts and women. Good to see this is now being reported unashamedly

On woman's hour there was a comment read out about some TRA stating that violence should not be linked to genitals.

I'm so tired of this stupidity. Depending on location 85-95% of all violent crimes are committed by men. If men would disappear overnight women would live in an utopia.

Sex matters.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/01/2024 14:58

I agree that violence shouldn't be linked to genitals - but it is. If those with male genitals could please stop doing violence it would be gr8 but they don't seem inclined, particularly.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/01/2024 16:14

It sounds like a typically thoughtful and informative read.

WarriorN · 23/01/2024 16:25

The thing is I wouldn't put it past Zoe writing exactly that.

The more people who contact Woman's Hour and say well done and ask for more like this, Helen Joyce maybe - the better - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3xyZd5NjJZmN7WztP96vCG/contact-us This situation has come about because people were made to be afraid and hide their opinions, this is a chance to keep the ball rolling

Done!

ArabellaScott · 23/01/2024 17:02

Ooh, yes, get Suzanne on!

donquixotedelamancha · 23/01/2024 17:20

Christ. That interview really brings to life how terribly Jo has been treated.

If you ever read this Jo- thank you so very much for keeping going. It would have been so easy just to give in. You said you aren't sure it's courage that drove you on but that is the only word for it.

WarriorN · 23/01/2024 17:49

Care of a PP (@flimpychimp I think?) on the other thread

That's second tweet from Sonia Sodha describes most of my male friends and co-workers.

It describes former male friends of mine…
(still male, no longer friends)

nepeta · 23/01/2024 17:58

Couldn't sleep last night so I read through the whole pile about Jo's tribunal. When you do it that way you can see the horrors she has experienced seeping in slowly stage by stage. She was treated like a typhoid Mary, her getting a large grant was met with silence in a faculty meeting where someone else was applauded for a much lesser achievement and so on.

But what really stuck out to me from the various e-mails, open letter(s) etc. was that this new ideology supports rights and fair treatments only for some demographic groups and not for everyone.

And if you then raise your head from your mobile and think for a moment you realise that this is true in all the gender identity ideology:

The rare identities are supported while everybody else is expected to be the background with firm acceptance of sexist two-dimensional binary stereotypes for themselves.

Apologies for not being on the topic.

SirChenjins · 23/01/2024 18:02

Jeez, if only it was just an hour Zoe.

On and on and on go the TRAs, invading spaces, forcing women to share single sex spaces, pushing them out of jobs and sports, silencing them for daring to point out that no-one can change sex. It’s like we’ve reverted back to times to when people believed the Earth was flat and it’s every fucking hour of every fucking day of this nonsense.
