I'm not here much lately and have removed myself entirely from Twitter/X so I'm not sure if I've missed something, but JJ was a guest on WH this morning - Emma Barnett interviewing - and the subject was JJ's 'new strategy for how she communicates on social media'.

She came across as moderate and reasonable, and confessed to posting aggressively, using controversy as media currency, being judgemental and condescending and jumping on the bandwagon of 'smackdown culture' ('popular on the left') and getting involved in issues that weren't her area of expertise. Also to deleting her twitter history. Notably, LGBTQ issues weren't specifically mentioned at all, but I wondered if she was on some sort of reputation salvaging mission now the Emperor's nakedness is getting harder to ignore (and his pink leggings have had a lot of front page PR.) She did claim to be using her platform to 'tell the truth', and EB pointed out that it was only her version of the truth, but that was about the closest they got to touching on issues. She is calling for greater tolerance for people admitting they were wrong.

Did anyone else hear it? Have I missed anything and am I being naive and overly optimistic to think she may have (ahem) 'educated herself'? (Probably if I returned to twitter I could get some answers myself, but I've deleted my account now and I don't think I can get back in!)

It strikes me as odd that someone would dismantle and throw rosary beads at someone, considering the significance they have. Would be a little like tearing pages out of a bible, scrunching them up and throwing them at someone.

But, who knows, it could have happened.

Just what I was about to say. I can’t imagine any Catholic throwing rosary beads. If they were demented enough to do so, those around them would be furious and try to stop them.

But, like being attacked by killer bees and getting repeatedly run over, these strange things do seem to happen to some people ….

I was at school with a girl who was an awful attention seeker. Crazy stories, made up nonsense, always had to be the centre of attention /high drama.

most girls like this grow out of it by the time they leave school.

Hadley Freeman would be an excellent guest for JJ to have on her podcast. Perhaps Jesse Singal too; he wrote a book debunking parts of the self-help industry which might be relevant to her listeners. I hope her new approach of being open to being wrong leads her to consider some alternative views.

She wasn't even an actress before TGP and she lied about having acting experience. There are so many lies and contradictions in the extraordinary story of her life. She's either one of life's most unfortunate people, having experienced so many health conditions, mishaps and traumas as well as one of life's luckiest people having been given opportunities beyond most people's experience, or she's a bullshitter.

Edited

She's a massive bullshitter and talks absolute shite but fair play to her shes bullshitted her way into a very well paying job!

She's very fortunate she's so beautiful, there's no way she would have got away with her nonsense without her looks.

Absolutely. And that reminds me I haven't checked on the exclusion zone bill currently making a very slow way through Scotparl.

They need to hurry it up a bit! Hopefully it goes through all right!

Wonder if they'll do something similar in England, Wales and Northern Ireland? It should be standard! It should also apply to hospitals with high profile cases when you get a bunch of ill-informed people hassling HCPs and patients.

Oh, learning those titbits about bees is amazing! Wonderful little creatures! 🖤💛🐝

HoneyButterPopcorn · 21/01/2024 22:46

My sister has bees. Loads of bees. I never knew she had a bee army…

Public Order Act 2023 was doing this:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2023/15/enacted

'Offence of interference with access to or provision of abortion services(1) A person who is within a buffer zone and who interferes with any person’s decision to access, provide, or facilitate the provision of abortion services in that buffer zone is guilty of an offence.'

Ooh, thank you @ArabellaScott ! I'm not very good at keeping up to date with this stuff. 😅

DogsAkimbo · 30/01/2024 23:13

I saw reference to an earlier interview where she said this happened to a friend before later saying it happened to herself. She has said in the past too that she was able to access abortion services safely, so it is strange. I do think she’s genuinely well meaning but does seem to have a… creative… side.

She's a pathological attention-seeker with, at best, a shaky relationship with the truth and at worst, a cold-blooded willingness to lie.

And her version of 'well-meaning' seems to encompass what will make her look good at the time, and nothing more. I haven't noticed her speaking up for any unfashionable, difficult causes.

I honour your even-handedness but I think you're giving her far too much credit.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 31/01/2024 09:59

She seems very immature to me and not much of a critical/independent thinker. Like a mid-teen girl who is a bit insecure but desperate for attention/adoration so makes rubbish up.

We were all at school with girls like this but they all seemed to grow out of it, no?
