Anti trans debate

I’ve noticed on mumsnet there’s a strong feminist anti trans stance. That’s fine in theory, but I’m surprised these topics affect so many people. In my day to day life I never experience any push/agenda! Where is this happening?

How about, not able to send my anxious, self-harming daughter to therapy because under affirmation-only she would likely have her discomfort with her body concertized rather than helped to find a way to become comfortable in her skin? That was a pretty big one for me. Or the way her school did the same.

The fact that with two teen daughters, about a third of the girls - incidentally the ones whose mothers have had serious problems with men - have transitioned.

Or the 16 year old I know whose mother shipped her off to have a double mastectomy.

I could go on.

Because the discussion can be seen by others looking for 'anti trans' messages.

Agree the younger ones are rejecting this now. The trend is dying off the kids have seen through it identified the attention seeking angle and are giving it a steer.

Unfortunately there are a strata of girls with beards and mastectomy scars. The young men by and large will be able to detrans with little effort- but many of them will persist I think, as long as they are allowed.

I remember in the 90s a lot of older women with no eyebrows and no teeth. They’d overplucked for that fine high arch that was fashionable at some point, and been given the ‘gift’ of having all their teeth removed so they weren’t troubled by them in later life.

@Ramblingnamechanger it wasn’t until this issue came up with my trans identifying child (who now realises she is lesbian, not trans) that I realised how lesbophobic society is. Girls still get teased at school, boys/men still sexually objectify lesbians and joke about threesomes, etc. I am horrified that I hadn’t appreciated it until it impacted my teen and that I have blindly gone through the last 20 years thinking that we ‘were done will all that’ gay rights stuff having sorted section 28, naively believing that gays/lesbians were totally accepted in society (and family courts). Feel my generation fell asleep at the wheel.

The mantra used to lesbians of You just haven't had the right dick yet is alive and well and now being shouted at to lesbians by men who identify as women.

Progress, eh.

I was properly peaked when I read a woman’s experience of being sexually abused by a transwoman in prison.

I have never been in prison and hope I’m lucky enough never to experience incarceration so that policy doesn’t affect me personally but I am furious that any woman in prison in the UK should ever be locked up with a man, however he might identify.

OP. You can’t have children at secondary school if you have no experience of trans issues. Even if they go to a school that hasn’t been stonewalled there will likely be a number of children, mostly but not exclusively girls, who identify as trans.

I bet lots of postmasters/mistresses didn't expect to be in prison either....

You never know when you are going to be effected...

Am I right in thinking that Beedleneedle posted and then left MN? Doesn’t feel as though, in that case, the question was asked in good faith?

The amateur contact team sport I'd participated in for 30 years decided to allow self-IDing transwomen. I had to play against them, and they very obviously had all the advantages of a male player. I raised concerns about safety and fairness and was kicked out. At the time I was also coaching, helping to bring on the next generation of women. I have spoken to lots of other women in that sport who share my concerns but are too terrified to voice them. I no longer have anything to do with it.

This is what is so anti women about the trans debate. I am not anti trans, but I am pro women.

I have quite a few lesbian friends. Who are often complaining that after a few golden years everything has gone to ratshit. Devastating.

Here here.

Lets hope it is not the case that the 90s were as good as it ever got for women and girls.
