I've been informed recently about this.
I thought it was had no sexual feelings, or had sex, but apparently not.
Now I know better.

I absolutely didn't laugh, promise.

Kids and young people push against boundaries to test the world. It’s the job of adults to enforce these boundaries to keep kids safe. Without them kids don’t learn what’s acceptable, what’s ok, how the world works really.

Too many adults are seeing boundaries as a negative thing that needs doing away with, it puts kids into free fall.

pickledandpuzzled · 01/01/2024 17:06

A lot of adults are currently showing the way of Peter Pan.
Back in the day, women got to a certain age, cut their hair and started dressing like their
mother. Young men dressed like their father and went to work often at the same place.

We’ve broken free of that, but seem to be a bit adrift with how else to grow up.

It's well known that SSRIs can cause temporary sexual side effects including lack of desire. It's less well known that these effects can be permanent in some people. There is a warning on the insert but it's glossed over pretty well and blink and you miss it.
If teens are put on SSRIs before they've fully developed their sexuality then they may never know whether they're asexual or whether they have PSSD (post SSRI sexual dysfunction).

The asexual label is handy as iatrogenic sexual dysfuntion can be more easily dismissed rather than studied as a side effect with hopefully some sort of resolution sought for the sufferers.

Herbal tea is not tea. If it doesn’t contain the tea plant in it, it isn’t tea, and I won’t be forced to believe other people’s reality.

So much herbal-teaphobia on here - they come in teabags so they should have access to the tin marked "tea" just like all the other teabags.

NotBadConsidering · 02/01/2024 08:57

Tea is not a costume.

Quite. I find the demisexual label insulting. As though your sexuality isn’t a fully formed thing if you don’t fancy strangers. Or a given number of people at a given frequency.

Agree I’ve been single for a while and I find the idea of sex with randoms just for the sake of a shag totally unappealing.

The fact I want to feel connected to someone to sleep with them seems to now be considered that there’s something wrong with me these days - like the default ‘correct’ attitude to sex is being like a dog on heat 🤷‍♀️

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 09:10

Historically women had a lot more to risk from casual tea drinking. It's lovely to go round having cups of tea with anyone you fancy but who gets left to do the washing up.
Also when I have a cup of tea with someone I'd appreciate if they know and care how I like my tea, and vice versa.
Apropos of nothing, I've heard that the Japanese tea ceremony is quite formal.

NotBadConsidering · 02/01/2024 09:24

The other issue with “demisexual” being described as a sexual orientation is that it needs an actual sexual orientation to qualify it. It still needs to be clarified if the sexual attraction you only develop after development of an emotional bond is towards people of the same sex, opposite sex or both. So you can’t just be a demisexual, you have to be a:

Heterosexual demisexual
Homsexual demisexual
Bisexual demisexual.

Or alternatively, again, a normal human.

To the anti teas on here. Have you ever met a tea drinker? If you just spoke to a tea drinker, you wouldn't be so bigoted.

Luckily, all the youngsters are tea drinkers so if you aren't one, you're on the wrong side of history.

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 09:40

Surely if you're judging the way I enjoy my tea that makes you the bigot.

DialSquare · 02/01/2024 09:43

If you're enjoying tea, you're not anti tea so are special. You can't be judged.

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 10:05

Even if I put jam in my tea? (Russian style apparently). I'm probably on a watchlist now.

I found a website called tea perspectives.
I'm broadening my horizons. Not sure about the flag, maybe a cup and saucer, or is that too uptight? I would hate not to be one of the cool kids, perhaps I need to start drinking tea from a shoe to show how special I am.

I'm quite happy to be on the wrong side of history.

TBF it tastes like you're drinking it from a shoe.

I am happy to be a tea-bigot, I'm a coffee -bigot as well.

Jam in tea you say? I've got some Russian heritage which may be why it isn't totally disgusting me.

ApocalipstickNow · 02/01/2024 10:42

Jam in tea????

I thought butter in coffee was bad enough.

(I miss the days of booze in beverages.)

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 10:42

Well you just know that someone's going to push the boundaries and tell you that marmite is jam because it's in the same aisle.

hate it GIF by Marmite

Well... Marmite has been known to identify as peanut butter. No doubt the jam will be next!

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 11:51

peanut butter in coffee for a bit of forced teaming?

Some of my closest friends are tea-drinkers. Lovely people but I don’t agree with them.

newtlover · 02/01/2024 12:44

what if you like tea but prefer it with loose tea in a proper tea pot, and only accept tea bags begrudgingly?
(also known as particular)
(or, a fussy bugger)
Can I have a flag please?

Non Bagery?

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2024 13:01

Ooh, the non bagery flag could be a bit glittery to represent all those little leaves flagrantly brewing.

newtlover · 02/01/2024 19:42

it would have to have a teapot as well

I genuinely think that the naming of asexuality as a part of human experience was a positive step and allowed people who don't want sex to name themselves positively. But this nonsensical stuff sounds like a way for men people to undermine and devalue the genuinely asexual.

Yeah I agree. In recent times 'frigid' and 'virgin ' have become insults. 'Asexual' was a chance to legitimise not wanting to have sex, at least at that point in someone's life. So warping it to include people who're happy with sex in a stable relationship is a really retrograde step.
