I'm not sure I understand this, I know it's important but I am confused by the number of articles on gender! Am I right in understanding?

This is happening because the Scottish government voted in self ID with the GRR Bill and that conflicts with some UK and international legislation. Alister Jack said "behave" and actioned an S35 to stop Holyrood's choices from messing up the UK Equality Act. And the Scottish Government protested because they say that's Westminster interfering in Scottish affairs.

So if Westminster win the GRR bill is thrown out and has to be revised but that will cause a riot amongst nationalists who will see it as interference from Westminster, and if the Scottish Government win it'll cause a riot amongst civil servants who'll have to work out what it means for lots of UK and international legislation and for gender services in Scotland because people will try and move, or acquire an address, so they can change their certificated gender which will count in Scotland but not in rUK.

All because some people in Scottish government are confused about what a woman is, although some of them are very sure about that issue whilst having extra marital affairs. Which relates to more future cases which will be difficult for the SNP but not the S35.

It has so far cost taxpayers almost £230,000 in Scottish Government costs alone.

What a waste of money....there are 2 sexes, nothing more.

Woman2023 · 07/12/2023 18:12

As I understand it Scotland tried to bring in self-id such that it affects the rest of the UK as well.

The gov pushed back.

It's getting a decision tomorrow but it could go up to the Supreme Court ultimately.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 07/12/2023 18:19

Ok, and going to Spreme court would mean Humza Yousuf, who said that Isla Bryson was "at it", defending a position that no one can ever tell sex and it can be changed with certificates and no trans person has ever done a bad thing ever?

While also fire fighting the issues no doubt created at home by rumours about his during-covid-activities, which shows hypocrisy after the SNP's MP who was sacked for being on a train during covid and his slagging off Boris Johnstone for his covid behaviour, never mind the morality of how we expect married men in positions of power and influence to behave. Albeit at least this one had an amazing hashtag.

I found a good thread on twitter from Holyrood Magazine explaining it in terms I can understand.simple explanation and clever responses.

Feeling nervous for this one.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 07/12/2023 20:30

Feeling nervous for this one.

I'm feeling about the same as I did the day before the 22nd Dec last year, which was rather queasy!

Waitwhat23 · 07/12/2023 22:42

I'm crossing everything for this one.

Will be feverishly checking my phone during the scarce moments I can tomorrow.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 07/12/2023 23:20

Me too. Humza must be busy tonight trying to work out the spin, either way he’ll have a hard press day tomorrow.

BettyFilous · 08/12/2023 07:14

If the judgement finds in favour of the UK govt, does that block the Welsh govt’s plans for self-ID too?

pickledandpuzzled · 08/12/2023 07:20

Lordy. The money wasted on similar cases around the world. Fancy going to court to prove the world is flat.

ArthurbellaScott · 08/12/2023 07:43

Oh god. Yes feeling queasy.

If Westminster lose, on top of the upcoming Hate Crime Bill ...

Scotland is tumbling into some chaotic, clownworld dystopia I don't want to be part of.

thatsnotmywean · 08/12/2023 07:53

Either result suits the SNP agenda -

a win = big bad westminster can't tell us what to do.
a lose = big bad westminster are telling us what to do

WatchingBoat · 08/12/2023 10:03

Any idea what time they’ll announce?

Datun · 08/12/2023 10:17

Placemarking

ArthurbellaScott · 08/12/2023 10:32

12pm announcement, apparently.

Kucinghitam · 08/12/2023 10:55

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a ruling based on material reality, but fuck knows anymore.

Boiledbeetle · 08/12/2023 10:56

I'm currently trying to do something else but I'm failing miserably as I can't concentrate!

nauticant · 08/12/2023 11:39

KPSS currently have a Twitter space discussing this:

ArthurbellaScott · 08/12/2023 12:06

Thank FUCK

Boiledbeetle · 08/12/2023 12:08

Oh wonderful!

I am certain that this is exactly the reason the fingertip feminist chose this hill to die on.

She doesn't give a monkey's for women, children or even trans people. The only ideology she believes in is Scottish independence at all cost.

nauticant · 08/12/2023 12:12

Stonewall:

We’re disappointed that the Court of Session in Scotland has found in favour of the UK Government’s unprecedented decision to use Section 35 to block the Gender Recognition Reform Bill from Royal Assent. This Bill was one of the most debated in the Scottish Parliament’s history and was passed by a resounding majority of MSPs drawn from all major Scottish parties.

This unfortunately means more uncertainty for trans people in Scotland, who will now be waiting once again, to see whether they will be able to have their gender legally recognised through a process that is in line with leading nations like Ireland, Canada and New Zealand.

Whatever happens next in discussions with the UK and Scottish Governments on this matter, Stonewall will continue to press all administrations to make progress on LGBTQ+ rights in line with leading international practice.

PronounssheRa · 08/12/2023 12:12

I was sure they would lose and I can't believe they wasted money on this.

The SNP will probably sell this as westminster denying the will of the Scottish people though.
