Trans harassment case thrown out by tribunal

Common sense prevails this time but how do these ridiculous grievances ever get as far as they do?

Unless there’s huge gaps in the story, it’s absolutely plain to anyone that there’s nothing to see here.

Trans woman's harassment case against the local authority thrown out

Mandie Monroe caused 'confusion' soon after joining the authority because her name on the rota was Mandie but her name on her email said Andy.

Thanks. I'll add to the court case thread.

Three little letters. FFS. (actually that's only two Grin)

PurpleBugz · 05/12/2023 21:15

Concerningly it looks like it was thrown out because early on in the job they were using both Mandie and Andy. They were asked to pick one for consistency. They picked Andy for work saying Mandie was for friends. He/him at work was fine.

So it's thrown out because the idiot at the time when asked said man's name and pronouns was their preference.

It should have been thrown out because you cannot compel use of pronouns. Full stop

His claim was that merely asking the question was transphobic harassment

Fordian · 05/12/2023 21:27

"A tribunal report said: 'Ms Monroe came out in April 2018 as transgender, transitioning from male to female."

How? How does a human change sex? Make and female are SEX descriptors.

It should have said "Ms (Mr??) Monroe chose to alter their gender presentation from that generally socially associated with men to that associated with women"

Fordian · 05/12/2023 21:28

Typo, sorry, 'male'.

NigellaAwesome · 05/12/2023 21:29

So is someone who is a part-time cross dresser protected under equality laws? I thought it was someone who had been, or in the process of, or considering gender reassignment? And that gender reassignment means permanently living as a person of the opposite sex.

I'm not an expert on this, so happy to be corrected.

User1775 · 05/12/2023 21:32

So many called Monroe....

IcakethereforeIam · 05/12/2023 21:55

This must have been an awful experience for the people being accused of transphobia. He's done trans people no favours at all by pulling this stunt. There will be employers who will read this article and think 'nope'.

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 05/12/2023 21:59

Well I’m glad that this shameless grifter got nothing this time.

Part time cross dresser indeed. What a precedent Pips Bunce set, eh.

What a fucking world.

The good people of Bedfordshire must be so happy their council tax is being spent on defending ludicrous non-claims like this; as you say, OP, how did it ever even get this far?

ETs are quite expensive and even if you win you rarely get your costs covered - which makes me wonder if Andy had one of the well-funded trans orgs backing him on this, and so had nothing to lose.

WickedSerious · 05/12/2023 22:05

He's very glamorous isn't he?

Precipice · 05/12/2023 22:06

If you think being called a man is harassment, why would you choose to call yourself MANdie?

Yeah from the sounds of it they were trying to be as sensitive as they could be to the situation!

And this is where be kind gets you!

SamW98 · 05/12/2023 22:17

So asking someone who uses the name Andy on his CV and emails but Mandie on the rota which he prefers to be know as is ‘transgender harassment’ according to this shameless grifter.

How do these people manage to get through the day ffs when they see transphobia in every word anyone else says?

😂i nearly wet myself laughing!

pronounsbundlebundle · 05/12/2023 22:29

I find it extremely disturbing that this person, who has shown themselves to be narcissistic and willing to deliberately cause trouble for the sake of it, has held positions dealing with vulnerable people.

I doubt this person is capable of putting other people first, or empathy.

The courts have typically taken a 'broad interpretation'

Ardith · 05/12/2023 22:54

Funny how it never seems to be biological women bringing these sort of court cases.

But it always seems to be biological women getting sued.

I wonder why that is.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 05/12/2023 22:56

For the previous 10 years, she worked as a contractor for local authorities and County councils; also worked as an Accommodation Officer; a Hospital Discharge and Homeless Specialist Advisor, and a Housing Officer working with families and individuals with housing needs.'

That's a bit worrying. Very vulnerable people.

Grimchmas · 05/12/2023 22:58

Mandie with an ie. How cute.

Honestly look at the state of them.

bonzaitree · 05/12/2023 22:59

Sounds like the manager was just trying to clear up confusion so that other staff members felt like they were getting name and pronouns right.

What a shame the manager was subjected to a court case. I cannot imagine the stress this would have caused them and their family.
