Isn't Brighton a fairly safe green seat?

MargotBamborough · 26/11/2023 12:32

dothedoo · 26/11/2023 10:48

hard working and popular with her constituents

On the contrary

https://whitstableviews.com/2022/01/30/why-canterbury-whitstable-needs-a-new-labour-m-p/

Why would you write something like that anonymously? The excuse given doesn't stack up, does it?

NameChange259 · 26/11/2023 12:36

I haven’t read that tweet about being a Trans Superhero before. Eddie has really swam up their own arse, haven’t they?!

duc748 · 26/11/2023 12:36

I don't think it does stack up as an excuse, no. But, if accurate, it certainly casts a different light.

mumda · 26/11/2023 12:47

ArthurbellaScott · 26/11/2023 07:36

'The MP for Canterbury, who has previously claimed she has been ostracised by Sir Keir Starmer and the party for her beliefs about women’s rights, is currently not on the party’s approved list of candidates to stand at the next general election.'

Sing it loud sister before the man pushes you off stage.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 26/11/2023 12:49

That investigation is so clearly an abuse of process. Labour unsupportable now.

RoyalCorgi · 26/11/2023 12:50

MeMyselfAndMyEye · 26/11/2023 12:28

Yep. Izzard is standing in Brighton. I have family in the area. They are as labour as you can get, but are totally unimpressed by Eddie's selection.

Edited

The Labour candidate in Brighton hasn't been selected yet, so they may well decide not to choose Izzard.

Datun · 26/11/2023 13:16

He was responding to a tweet by the comedian Eddie Izzard who wrote: “I’m a trans superhero — but if I’d lived in Nazi Germany I’d have been murdered for it.”

And it's not Eddie that gets called out???

Absolutely amazing how someone can re-invent themselves as both a superhero, and a victim, in the same fucking sentence.

CurlewKate · 26/11/2023 13:22

A young person I know has gone on the electoral register at their parent's home so they can vote Labour without voting for Duffield.

MargotBamborough · 26/11/2023 13:31

If Eddie had lived in Nazi Germany he would have just lived as a perfectly ordinary Caucasian man and wouldn't have been persecuted for anything at all unless he was caught doing something exceptionally brave such as smuggling Jewish children out of the country.

Jewish people couldn't just escape Nazi persecution by claiming to identify as Roman Catholic and going to mass.

MargotBamborough · 26/11/2023 13:33

CurlewKate · 26/11/2023 13:22

I'm pretty sure the number of women who would like to vote for Rosie Duffield without voting for Labour is considerably higher.

pronounsbundlebundle · 26/11/2023 13:37

Sorry I haven't RTFT but I thought the Nazi's were quite supportive of trans identifying men - there are loads of pics of Nazi officers / soldiers cross-dressing.

Agree. If anyone should be investigated, it's Izzard. It's incredibly offensive of him to appropriate the Holocaust in this way and to suggest that he would have been targeted by the Nazis, when trans people were most definitely not targeted by the Nazis, not least because the concept barely existed at the time.

It reminds me of what happened to Helen Mary Jones of Plaid, who retweeted a tweet by Rosa Freeman, which criticised Jo Maugham for offensively making an analogy between what was happening to trans people and what happened in Nazi Germany. Bear in mind that Rosa Freeman is Jewish, so had the right to take umbrage at Maugham's analogy. Yet it was Jones who was forced by her party's leadership to apologise.

These people who weaponise the Holocaust for their own ends disgust me.

AlisonDonut · 26/11/2023 13:49

His tweet was SO offensive, and yet nothing.

Talk about Teflon Trans.

Thelnebriati · 26/11/2023 14:07

So Labour say they support women's sex based rights but are busy purging everyone who might actually hold them to account.

I've said this before, but its like being in a relationship with an abuser. These are tactics from the abusers handbook.

Froodwithatowel · 26/11/2023 14:07

Yup.

Devoid of class. Devoid of basic social awareness. Purpose of everything and everyone is to serve self.

I find it beyond sad to see what this can do to a man, although the transwidows have been describing it for years.

AdrianaLaCerva · 26/11/2023 14:09

ArthurbellaScott · 26/11/2023 07:34

They've made their choice, then

Eddie Izzard over Rosie Duffield.

It couldn't be any clearer.

Exactly this. They have sent me a very clear message on their priorities. Unequivocal.

Froodwithatowel · 26/11/2023 14:10

They identify as supporting sex based rights.

Nuff said really.

As someone wise said on another thread today, if a person or a party is delusional about words changing sex, then they're going to be delusional regarding everything else too. Alternative realities.

Which equals lack of capacity. Huge, huge lack of capacity. For anything regarding a position of responsibility. You cannot run a country while living in lala land and just insisting that the facts you don't like aren't there/screaming at and arresting anyone who contradicts you. That's North Korea territory.

LoveStHelier · 26/11/2023 16:43

As much as I may want a change of government, I read about things like this and think ‘seriously’! ? The cult of izzard and trans think in labour just makes me go no, no, no.

PotteringPondering · 26/11/2023 16:44

My line in the sand:

If Rosie Duffield isn't allowed to be a candidate at the next election, I'll never vote Labour again. It will be the last straw. I'll actively campaign against them.

(Said as somebody who has always been centre-left).

MimiGC · 26/11/2023 16:49

Rosie Duffield is my MP. I am member of the Labour Party and have voted Labour all my life. If she isn't allowed to stand because of liking that tweet , I will cancel my party membership and not vote Labour at the election. Canterbury will return a Tory MP, just like they did for the 100 years before Rosie came along. She is the only Labour MP in the whole of Kent, but if that's how the Labour Party wants to play, so be it.

PlanetJanette · 26/11/2023 18:15

PriOn1 · 26/11/2023 08:27

The witch hunt continues then. I’m disappointed (again) in Starmer that he is allowing this to happen.

The irony in the accusations of historical revisionism, given they are falsely claiming that cross dressing men and transvestites were targeted by the Nazis, is utterly sickening and completely self-serving. I don’t understand what Izzard has become. I used to think he was intelligent, but I guess even intelligent men can get caught up in addictive and/or cult-like behaviour, particularly around their sexual proclivities.

I mean this is just wrong and at the heart of what Duffield is being investigated for. I note that it is the Times that claims she is being investigated for anti-semitism. There was nothing anti-semitic about the tweet she liked.

But the tweet is an example of holocaust denialism in that it denies - falsely - that people like Eddie Izzard were targets of the nazis. That is simply untrue (your claim in this post is also untrue). Indeed, the German courts, the Bundestag and the Museum of Jewish Heritage have all set out specifically that trans people (most commonly referred to then as transvestites) were specifically targeted.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 26/11/2023 19:13

@PlanetJanette

Leaving aside that your assertion firstly conflates transvestism, a specific subset of trans identifying people, with transgenderism, and secondly ignores the more accurate and nuanced analysis linked to above that notes that aryan transvestites like Izzard tended to be met with prisons not concentration camps, isn't the more salient point that Eddie Izzard specifcally, being by his own admission more than happy to slip back into a traditional male persona for acting roles, is extremely unlikely to have maintained his trans identify in the face of either prison or concentration camps, and is therefore being grossly offensive to appropriate the hideous things done to people who did not have the same choice to further his own political agenda?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 26/11/2023 20:20

If Rosie stands as an independent, I assume she could stand in any constituency she likes. I'd like to see her stand against David Lammy - think of the dinosaurs out on the streets campaigning for her! Any other ideas?
