So as the title says a biological male footballer who was allowed by the fa to play on a woman's team with the inevitable consequences for a female player has thrown his tous out of the pram because the women's teams refuse to play against him and is threatening to sue the other clubs so he can play against 16 and 17 year old girls and women

There's two issues here which are BOTH valid reasons why men who say they are women should not be participating in women's sport. It's not an either/or or a one is more legitimate than the other thing.

This.

Loads of reasons why I don't want men in my spaces. Privacy, dignity, safety, yes. Also cleanliness, plus their habit of peeing with the door open, etc, etc.

Loads.

Any one of them is enough.

Froodwithatowel · 25/11/2023 16:32

And normally, people accept that everyone has to accept limits that protect others. What do we say so often on MN? 'This is why we can't have nice things'.

Because some people will be dicks, exploit the situation and do harm.

This is the only group I ever remember where there is such fear of saying no to them that others are prepared to continually offer up others to be harmed, and to proclaim this extreme, willful naivety. For example that a thirty year old man who spends his time expressing a fairly extreme version of a fetish with clients about young girls might be perfectly safe in a changing room with young girls, (where any other male who did not identify as having a woman's identity, with or without his sex work history, would be regarded as absolutely an unacceptable risk) and is wishing to be there for perfectly innocent reasons. And is wholly unaware that his size and weight is putting those girls at risk of serious injury, or that his presence is damaging their sporting opportunities.

Basic, basic safeguarding. Ask the difficult questions. Think the unthinkable.

This is beginning to gather pace, the BBC even mentioned this letter and that it was started because a female player had her knee broken blocking a shot by a trans player 😱🥳

Football chiefs urged to ban trans women from playing in women's teams https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12840069/Football-chiefs-urged-ban-transgender-women-playing-womens-teams-leading-politicians.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Under Football Association rules, players are currently able to register under their 'affirmed gender' rather than their biological sense,

“MP’s call on the FA to change transgender rules to “protect” women” is the BBC’s headline. 🙄

BBC need to get there faster, they are definitely behind the curve now. Every ordinary, middle-aged person I speak to has properly had enough of this shit

So a man without a school girl fetish would be OK?

This is where ignoring biological sex gets you. On the back foot and having to justify your case.

Do you really think that the women of Mumsnet can only hold one thought in their head. No one has said that highlighting this particular person's proclivities means that other less questionable males would be fine. Why do you think they are?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/12/2023 09:20

Good to see the FA being openly challenged like this. The grip that Stonewall and the trans lobby have on sport is immense.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/12/2023 09:42

I see one of the named signatories of the letter is Estelle Morris - she's been involved in education all her life including, according to Wikipedia, teaching PE.

From the BBC sports section it's actually quite good for the beeb

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67647849

The headline is actually MPs call on FA to change transgender rules to 'protect' women's football

A subtle but important difference to 'protecting women'.

That's the second time today I've seen her name. She appears to be getting fed up now and willing to stand up and say so.

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2023 10:14

I have been trying to find out who the second Labour MP mentioned in the BBC article is. It would be very good if there were more than one. If the Mail is more accurate (😀) it is one Labour MP (Rosie) and one Labour peer (Estelle Morris).

UtopiaPlanitia · 08/12/2023 13:43

Being from N Ireland, I’m very pleased to see that 2 DUP MPs have signed the letter to the FA. Politicians in NI have their heads in the sand on this issue, so it’s good to see some of them paying attention.

SabrinaThwaite · 08/12/2023 17:57

Would be good to see the whole letter, although this extract is good:

"The FA must therefore take responsibility for setting an unambiguous single-sex policy at all levels of the game," they said.

"We therefore ask that, without further delay, the FA acts to protect women and girls' football by banning all natal males from playing in women's teams."

SabrinaThwaite · 08/12/2023 17:56

Great to see they’re reporting on it (via PA Media) but a season-ending injury, that’s all they’ll say? A broken knee could cause long-term consequences and is potentially damaging for a player’s career, not just a season. This was not a sprained ankle.

Truthlikeness · 08/12/2023 23:22

"Given the controversy around this topic and the confusing way in which lobby groups have misinterpreted equalities law, players and managers – who are often volunteers – face serious personal, social and employment consequences if they question the presence of a transwoman on the pitch."

I was accused of bigotry for raising the issues of safety and fairness and my team was kicked out of the league. I stepped away from a game I had given 30 years to.

That's appalling. But sadly common.
It's scandalous that the only way of forcing men into women's sport is by relentlessly bullying and punishing those who stand up for fairness & women's safety.

DrivingonIce · 09/12/2023 07:50

But they aren't 'banning transgender players from women's football', they are just suggesting banning the male ones.

Froodwithatowel · 09/12/2023 08:19

Yes but that doesn't sound pitiful and dramatic, does it?

You can't do a proper hair flick or flounce or anything.

RethinkingLife · 20/11/2023 17:39

I read that story and I'm hoping that it's all a wretched misunderstanding or piece highlighting blowhard threats.

Otherwise, are some would-be litigants genuinely looking to expand outwards from compelled speech to compelled use as a crash test dummy in the name of inclusive sports?

I'm failing to insert a cigarette paper between MRA, incel rhetoric, and legal recourse to resolve aggrieved feelings about being unable to compel women and girls to behave in line with male preferences.

Edited

I almost feel sorry for the football authorities. If they insist that young girls should play against full grown men, and one of the girls gets hurt, she'll be able to sue the stadium from under them. Was a risk assessment done? Did no one think of Health and Safety?
I don't believe this man has a snowballs chance in Hell in court.
