Tampons for men

Is this really a necessity or a company jumping on the bandwagon (note the blue packaging). Does anyone really care who buys tampons in this day and age. However the article does have some corkers. Did you know asexual people menstruate? No idea why they think they didn’t and there is even a paragraph on how to address a cross dresser - I have no idea what that has to with tampons.

Vuokkoset For men tamponi

Vuokkoset For men tampon

Periods aren’t just an issue for women, as trans men and non-binary people may also have a womb and periods. That’s why Vuokkoset launches tampon for men during international Transgender Awareness…

Very apt typo early on "Mestruation"... So much naval gazing. Presumably these are just tampons like any other tampon, but in a navy blue box because... 🤷‍♂️

Truthlikeness · 19/11/2023 21:32

A whole page of definitions, using the word gender 19 times and never once defining what 'gender' actually means.

nepeta · 19/11/2023 21:35

When "periods are not just an issue for women" the concept 'woman' has been decoupled from any biological basis. It's hard to see why we would then even have a name for a group which appears to share nothing politically, socially or medically relevant?

And given that 'woman' now has a new definition, could we, please, finally see what that definition might be? In words and not based on an unfalsifiable quasi-religious concept of some abstract inner identity of 'feeling one is a woman/?

Because most people don't believe in that concept, and even if it existed in all of us it would become circular and empty once 'woman' has nothing to do with being an adult female human being. What does it mean to have a female identity when 'female' no longer exists?

The only place that can go is into defining 'woman' by sexist stereotypes and forcing us back into retrogressive gender roles and behaviour.

ManchesterLu · 19/11/2023 21:37

You can call me prejudiced or old fashioned or whatever you like - but this is bullshit and I hate it.

Dowhadiddydiddydum · 19/11/2023 21:39

Bizarre. Anyone who has a period can buy tampons if they need them. Why have “men” tampons?

If having female linked words on tampon packaging etc causes mental distress then surely the mere act of menstruation will too?

Anyway it is not a gendered item, it’s a sex based item .

because men can only buy thing that come in blue packages and women only things in pink packages. obvs 🙄

AvengedQuince · 19/11/2023 21:43

I personally do avoid products in 'girly' packaging, but there are products available in blue or green without being specially for gender dysphoric women and girls.

Chersfrozenface · 19/11/2023 21:45

Oh, for "validation", undoubtedly.

Someone has realised there:s money to be made from "validation".

Sorry, someone else. See also, mongers of period pants in more "masculine" styles like Modibodi.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 19/11/2023 21:48

My (male) partner has no problem buying tampons in with the weekly shop if I put them on the list. In theory current packaging. Which, according to the quick glance I just had is mostly blue anyway.

The market for 'men'strual products must be vanishingly small, in the grand scheme of things, surely the investment in marketing, product design (though they're hardly reinventing the wheel) and blue ink must make the products prohibitively expensive?

caringcarer · 19/11/2023 21:51

Anyone who has periods needs tampons and anyone who doesn't does not. No need for different coloured boxes or any different marketing. We live in a batshit world.

gotomomo · 19/11/2023 21:53

@Chersfrozenface

But the modibodi range is suitable for bladder issues too which isn't a sex based issue, plus some women prefer a more masculine style of underwear. I personally use their products for bladder issues

AvengedQuince · 19/11/2023 21:56

I don't see any problem with period boxers, women wear boxers too.

Circumferences · 19/11/2023 21:57

speaker and LGBTQ+ specialist Dakota Robin shares the concern:”When I was young, menstruation felt not only strange but somehow wrong. Our culture does not really acknowledge the diversity of menstruating individuals”

Yeah because us female people are such a boring homogeneous group.... So let's pretend that very manly packaging cures that problem! Be female but rebranded! Super. A neoliberal solution to a neoliberal ideology. Great stuff.

Exactly. Plus there are already boxes where the design/branding is not particularly "feminine"

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 19/11/2023 22:10

Does this means they will be cheaper now? Every cloud 🤷‍♀️

BreatheAndFocus · 19/11/2023 22:20

“In addition to the for men tampon, there are also plans for another, for me tampon is for everyone regardless of gender or identity”

Brilliant! Let’s have one for every zodiac sign too. Actually, no - that’s too general. Let’s have tampons with our own names on because we’re all so unique and special. But why stop at tampons? I’ve just done the dishes and I feel that my green washing up liquid doesn’t adequately represent my amazing personality, so I think it should be changed.

This is just a way to make money out of idiots, frankly.

lostinthoughts · 19/11/2023 22:31

What in the actual?

Just double checked because I thought I might be misremembering but Tampax are already in blue boxes.

Can we have a show of hands, has any woman/girl ever liked periods? Thought they were comfortable? Felt good about having them?

Do these people actually think we feel validated in our womanness by bleeding every month, cramping, not knowing if the tampon is about to fall out when we cough or leak if we bend over/sit down/walk too fast?

I think in the last 30 years I've only been happy to have my period a couple of times when I was desperately hoping I wasn't pregnant.

ApocalipstickNow · 19/11/2023 22:40

Manpons.

Inamuddle36 · 19/11/2023 22:41

did anyone else read on to the section “for young people”:

“The first period is an important step in many young people’s lives. You may feel joy as a new phase of your life begins, but you might also feel confused and even a little sad as your childhood turns into young adulthood.”

yes… all “young people”
can now wonder when they might get their first priory….

Nicesalad · 19/11/2023 22:45

But won't buying these tampons be very " outing"?

Round123 · 19/11/2023 22:47

Hahaha they’ve clearly never seen a box of BLUE tampax
