Tampons for men

Is this really a necessity or a company jumping on the bandwagon (note the blue packaging). Does anyone really care who buys tampons in this day and age. However the article does have some corkers. Did you know asexual people menstruate? No idea why they think they didn’t and there is even a paragraph on how to address a cross dresser - I have no idea what that has to with tampons.

Vuokkoset For men tamponi

Vuokkoset For men tampon

Periods aren’t just an issue for women, as trans men and non-binary people may also have a womb and periods. That’s why Vuokkoset launches tampon for men during international Transgender Awareness…

This is perhaps a minor thing in the context of the article, but I really don't like how this person defines themselves as a LGBTQ+ specialist, when they're clearly just a TQ+ 'specialist', (whatever that may entail..)

I doubt they know much about LGB issues and it's very annoying to see such people claim to speak for those elements of the community.

elliejjtiny · 21/11/2023 19:45

It's bizarre but it doesn't bother me if someone wants to buy tampons in a "manly" box. I do get annoyed when people who were born male pretend to have periods and shove tampons up their bums. Mainly because I have awful periods with flooding and having people pretend to have something I find so debilitating is just awful.

Whosaidthattt · 21/11/2023 19:50

Men's tampons? Oh, please fuck off.

Maybe some people use them for anal incontinence? 🤔

Thanks for that 🤢 men in dresses using them for that is a thought I could.of gone without!

Season 6 What GIF by The Office

Intersex refers to when a person’s chromosomes, genitals or hormone function is not unambiguously typically male or female. Intersex may also be a gender identity for some people

RavingStone · 22/11/2023 13:10

Well they're clearly not "men's tampons" because they're more expensive. The marketing team know who the target audience is and they know that that target audience (women) is used to paying more than men for the same goods eg painkillers, razors.

Without the concept of marketing, gender ideology would likely not exist. Always makes me laugh when TRAs try and claim to be anti-capitalist.

But if sellers can find a cohort that will pay as much or even more than women, of course they're going to exploit the opportunity.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 22/11/2023 14:44

"Trans women may experience discrimination and have their womanhood criticized because they don’t have periods". How are Transwomen experiencing discrimination becuase they don't have periods?!

Come on! You know why. They don't have periods for a Reason, and that Reason has been sent down the Memory Hole. Don't do Thoughtcrime, kids.

Absolutely. Although the target audience will unwittingly be behaving in a very "gender conforming" way by purchasing them.

RedToothBrush · 22/11/2023 17:22

Great! Let's see how much of a commercial success this is.

Does some thinking on the size of the market and margins

Tampons - less popular than previously especially with younger 'people' due to environmental concerns and the greater availability of period pants and moon cups.

Marketing and packaging for such a niche group is more expensive. Supermarkets unlikely to stock them as a result.

Fabulous. Transmen you can buy these for a highly inflated price plus postage costs just so you can have a blue box and 'not be triggered'

Or you could just go to Asda and not get fleeced.

Your call 'guys'. You can be a mug or you can just get on with buying something that no one in their right mind will blink at you buying anyway.

MyKindOfWonderful · 22/11/2023 17:31

I have read that some gay men have to use them as anal sex has damaged the sphincter muscle.

TinkerTiger · 22/11/2023 17:49

** Opening paragraph on the website:

So, because non/binary people have periods too, they've made tampons for MEN.

How does that solve the issue for someone who is NB? 😂

If true, it could apply to everyone who has anal sex

Rouleur · 22/11/2023 17:50

Bizarre. But then I suppose no more bizarre than women's razors (which are exactly the same as the men's razors, except pastel colours and more expensive).

TinkerTiger · 22/11/2023 17:50

yetanotherusernameAgain · 20/11/2023 09:47

Why do transmen have periods anyway? Unless they're trying to conceive, I would have thought they would want to stop having periods. Does taking testosterone stop periods, or would they need to take a contraceptive pill? Can both be taken at the same time?

I guess it's for people who don't take hormones but still identify as men?

TeenLifeMum · 22/11/2023 17:53

Attention seeking bullshittery at its finest.

I expect we can look forward to the marketing of tampons for non-binary people, in yellow, white, purple and black packaging.

I think I have the currently correct colours there.

One day someone will point out that the emperor has no clothes on.

Wehadabetamax · 23/11/2023 07:36

StellaAndCrow · 20/11/2023 14:45

Yes, as someone said earlier, aren't these going to be "outing"?

So a transman (presenting "manly") has a period, buys a regular box of tampax - no one would bat an eye these days, we're used to blokes buying tampons for partners/friends/family.

But if they buy special "for men" manpons, then aren't they outing themselves? I mean, fine if they want to, but can't see this being universally celebrated.

I actually think that that's what they want. How else would anyone know how special they are?

aname1234 · 23/11/2023 08:52

MotherEarthisaTerf · 20/11/2023 13:01

Can’t get het up about this. I understand some people will experience dysphoria - if they want to buy expensive products branded at trans men so be it.

I would hope most trans females aren't so divorced from reality that they'd waste their money on this. Anyhow, what's the point, you can buy reusables and be done with it, or take the mini-pill.

Otherwise, the company is basically laughing all the way to the bank having taken advantage of gullible women.

LondonLass91 · 03/12/2023 18:20

I did not know this...will buy razors from the men's section now!

ApocalipstickNow · 03/12/2023 20:56

Ages ago a couple of posters said they used safety razors - as I wanted a non disposable non plastic one I bought one and it’s been great.

Codlingmoths · 03/12/2023 21:40

Do none of them realise many tampons already come in a blue box?

JellySaurus · 04/12/2023 00:27

"Trans women may experience discrimination and have their womanhood criticized because they don’t have periods".

What, like women on the Pill may experience discrimination and have their womanhood criticized because they don’t have periods? Or like pregnant women may experience discrimination and have their womanhood criticized because they don’t have periods? Or menopausal women? Or ill women? Or women under severe stress?

What a load of navel-gazing bollocks.

No. All the women I listed experience discrimination and have their womanhood criticized because they are women. Transwmen have their 'womanhood' criticized because they are men.
