So I suppose this does make him an "award-winning feminist" if you redefine "award-winning" as "didn't personally win an award" and "feminist" as "not a feminist".

I can't keep up with all these words that don't mean what they used to mean.

LondonLass91 · 14/11/2023 09:26

Steph is currently on LBC RADIO...already said 'staff have mainly been assigned female at birth' 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

And this is exactly the issue.

I know a PP said yesterday that his trans status isn't an issue, per se, but it's the ideological language and erasure of women that that man has brought in with him.

I think his trans status is an issue, though. His very appointment in that role offends me.

LondonLass91 · 14/11/2023 09:32

I actually am more angered at all the handmaidens (sorry!) working alongside and enabling Steph. Where is their outrage? Where is their dignity?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/11/2023 09:33

They're mired in genderist nonsense, like a lot of virtue signalling young women.

Do 'people' get 'assigned as having endometriosis'?

Or do women just have endometriosis because 'biology'?

Just because your mates decided to do a mutual backslapping exercise about how wonderful you are (oooo is that the modern version of being in the boys club?) doesn't make you a feminist because you identify as one.

The language rewriting is bloody sinister.

Me too.

Have they been living under a bloody rock, and are still clueless about the type of man he is, and his motivations??

All this attention is doing wonders for his...alone time fodder.

I expect they'll get a lovely (but pointless) pat on the head from Stonewall.

Malaga Airport ! Ha! Comments in the Times today pretty unsupportive of this guy

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/11/2023 09:55

Good article by Milli Hill. What a creep.

This is who they have appointed..very very worrying..

Reading that tweet and the responses, the whole ‘charity’ appears to be a trans activist group from start to end.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 14/11/2023 11:01

It's a shame that it's a charity, so you can't send it FOI requests, because i think the recruitment process might be pretty interesting.

pronounsbundlebundle · 14/11/2023 11:06

If it's a registered charity can we make a complain to the Charities commission? It seems like it's not a charity for all endometriosis sufferers but rather a tiny minority - it's really more about being trans than endometriosis - and this should really be clear as at the moment it's really quite exclusionary of the majority of endometriosis sufferers.

A bit more clarity into this charity and suddenly it’s starting to make more sense why Steph was appointed

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/11/2023 11:17

Given the income of the charity, I very much doubt Steph is being paid for this. There will not have been a recruitment process in that they advertised the role openly for applications. It sounds very much as of Steph & the founder agreed this together.

id be very interested to see their governing document & what they claim to be doing in that

Maybe the women who've had to engage with this charity could just identify as not having endometriosis, then there'll be no need for the charity.

Problem solved!

TinselAngel · 14/11/2023 21:53

I see on Twitter Steph has tweeted that he is going to be on Woman's Hour.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/11/2023 21:58

The endless validation / chance to portray themselves as a victim

Rightsraptor · 14/11/2023 22:05

Now stop with your moral panic you lot. Steph confirms that puberty blockers are harmless for young people.(@LondonLass91's 10.15 post refers).

And we can all rest assured that Steph knows all about it because Steph used to be a hairdresser.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 14/11/2023 22:32

He’s on “Woo, man’s hour” tomorrow?

they e had Grace lavery yoo, but not Helen Joyce? For women Scotland? MBM?

BitofaStramash · 14/11/2023 22:38

You don't need lived experience to work for or run a charity.

I've worked in charities for more than 2 decades without having lived experience of any of the causes.

I was hired for my skills and experience.

Rightsraptor · 14/11/2023 22:47

But @BitofaStramash lots of us here have been trying to work out exactly what Steph's skills and experience are. They're not exactly obvious.

PurpleBugz · 14/11/2023 22:48

While I agree you don't need to experience the thing a charity works for to effectively work for them I do think woman's health is a woman's issue and no man can know what it's like to live with endo. I'm a sufferer. If you work in admin I don't care if you are male but CEO? No that should be a woman who know s what suffering endo is like. It's crippling painful and affects fertility and no man can know how that impacts life like a woman can

PermanentTemporary · 14/11/2023 22:52

Oh that's interesting @Rightsraptor. What's especially interesting is that Lupron is one of the drugs used for endometriosis, as well as a puberty blocker. And there's a twitter thread by JH, the other award winner of that small charity... talking about the awful side-effects of Lupron and discussing whether it's worth taking as some women's experience of it is so bad.

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2023 23:00

PurpleBugz · 14/11/2023 22:48

I think it's better summed up as 'you don't need experience in a certain field to be a charity worker / CEO but your personal interests and agenda shouldn't be a massive conflict of interests with the charity's interests and agenda and your personal interests and agenda shouldn't eclipse the aims and objectives of the charity'.

It's got fuck all to do with identity.

A major shareholder in a petrol company becoming CEO of Greenpeace would be a similar conflict of interest. It would bring into question why they were involved and whether they would use the charity against the interest it's supposed to be being promoting.
