It's interesting, I think, that using 'him' or 'her' or 'they' or 'ze' for the people that fall over themselves to use requested pronouns, are no longer communicating any information about the person (whether they are male or female, whether they have a gender identity) but are seen as a tickbox to show you have said the correct word, regardless of what it means or conveys.

I'm not super fussed about pronouns but when you question what it is you are being asked about yourself (when asked for your pronouns) people can't seem to actually give a straight answer. It's played down and dismissed by a lot of activists as 'it's just whatever you want to be called, it's nothing more than that'.

Ultimately, whether this is pronouns or toilets or whatever, it comes down to this conflict: either a male person is made to ferl uncomfortable or a female person is.
It's the same old patriarchy: the male person gets what they want and the female one is expected to ignore her own discomfort.
The fact that people see it as so shocking that a woman refuses to address a male person in the way he wants is a dire indication of just how far we have to go.

On this issue (pronouns) it also happens that a male person is made to feel uncomfortable and a female one gets what she wants. I’ve no doubt however that the ‘patriarchy’ is served by all this TRA ideology. (Please forgive me putting patriarchy in quotes - I’m not a feminist, though somewhat sympathetic, so using the term patriarchy feels strange to me, but it’s the best term available in this context.)

I'm still processing the soldier wank.

That young man probably spent the rest of his army career being disbelieved by other soldiers whenever he got drunk and told them about the time a strange woman volunteered to help him masturbate in a tree.

Aren’t we all?

<fetches more mind bleach>

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 13/11/2023 00:28

Wasn't there a magazine renowned for its letters page which would detail readers' implausible sexual encounters with complete strangers?

Was it Penthouse? Whatever the magazine's name, the soldier's version of the story would sound exactly like a submission to its letters page. Maybe the letters weren't all as fictional as we thought!

Resisterance · 13/11/2023 00:42

Can't stand her and this reinforces that for me.

windysocks · 13/11/2023 00:44

Miriam is indulging in luxury beliefs. At our expense

therealcookiemonster · 13/11/2023 01:03

@SidewaysOtter can I ask where you got your mind bleach from? I could do with some to remove the memory of suella and her recent speeches...

JeezWhatNext · 13/11/2023 01:10

Pronouns describe the sex of a person not their gender.

Oh it’s probably about as true as Brian Blessed delivering a baby in a park.

True or not, I'm still processing her desire to tell the world about it.

tbf to miriam, she says whatever is on her mind lol. it does make for good tv

JeezWhatNext · 13/11/2023 15:27

Does she make good viewing? I find her totally self absorbed. All that dramatic not being able to be near children is so affected.

EarthSight · 13/11/2023 16:02

It's not only about that person's wellbeing though, is it. It's about control, and more importantly, controlling how other people think about them. Simply using certain words isn't enough.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 13/11/2023 16:10

SidewaysOtter · 12/11/2023 15:42

Disappointing. Miriam never seems to give a hoot about what people think about what she says, so why does she suddenly care about this?

I think she always says what she knows people want to hear.

ArthurbellaScott · 12/11/2023 16:23

Would any of us volunteer for some experimental operating just to fully make the Dr. feel accepted, brave and stunning? Surely it can't be that dangerous?

SirChenjins · 13/11/2023 16:15

Miriam is a consummate luvvie - she likes to play the part of the delightfully shocking posho old lady whilst being very aware of the need to keep on the right side of the paymasters.

Sausagenbacon · 13/11/2023 17:04

Seeing as mm makes a living by making people uncomfortable I find it odd that she feels it important to make people feel comfortable now.
Anyway, I can't stand her.

Sausagenbacon · 13/11/2023 17:09

Plus she's been using the soldier wanking story for some time now.
I saw her at a show in bristol and she used it.
Funnily enough, I went right off her.

MCTorridWaffles · 13/11/2023 17:14

Disappointing. I was a fan! She’s an intelligent woman. And I thought she was lesbian and a feminist. She knows very well that this issue goes far deeper than pronouns and simply “being kind”!

Is it “kind” to female athletes when their opportunities for medals are taken away after years of training? Is it “kind” to deprive women of safe female spaces? Is it kind to females to eradicate the word “woman” and replace it with terms like “chest-feeders” or “people who menstruate”? What about kindness to them?

Waitingfordoggo · 13/11/2023 17:30

I’m sorry I haven’t read the whole thread yet- I see the soldier wank has been mentioned. Has anyone mentioned that time she gave an anecdote on Graham Norton about the time she ‘creamed’ her knickers when she met Laurence Olivier? Poor Matthew Perry on the sofa next to her was incredibly uncomfortable!

I remember that, he looked mortified!
She must have other humorous anecdotes that don't involve bodily functions, surely?

MarilynBoo · 13/11/2023 18:26

She tells the story in her memoir of how she was filming with Arnold Schwarzenegger and how disgusted she was when he farted in front of her. Yet here she is on This Morning farting in front of Phil and Holly 🤢

I used to like her but it's clear she doesn't want to rock the boat by challenging trans ideology.
