Women's rights general conversations - Thread 7

Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

How can he etc. Rachel Levine is male. No agenda here, nothing to see, mve along there.

OneMorePlant · 07/02/2024 12:04

FIVE

This is so ridiculous. I get so angry for those poor girls.

And I am SO SO sick of all those comments "they should just stop playing" and "where are all the feminists".

It's again women's fault that men who are in control of sports bodies let this happen. It's the victims fault for not losing their scholarships and getting expelled on top of everything when they speak up.

I am so sick of how poorly women and girls are being treated in todays society.

SinnerBoy · 07/02/2024 12:09

Thanks, Gonners - it all makes (non) sense now.

And sigh yet another travesty for women and girls in sports. That's five who've been robbed of scholarships, so that mediocre blokes can get in.

Head-desk interface.

StephanieSuperpowers · 08/02/2024 19:23

How do people continue to take these people seriously?

Clabony · 08/02/2024 19:40

So the amputated testicles were kept in the fridge next to the eggs?

I suppose it's somewhat different to the MN chicken and massive salad.

Wouldn't want to get them confused on getting home pissed from the pub in the mood for a pickled egg!

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2024 19:46

And why has mn moved the quote button???? Every time i think I'm pressing quote I am in fact now saving posts!!!

Aghhhhhhhhhhhh

Hungry Food GIF by Bluey

I wonder what the pet dogs thought of it all?

Gonners · 08/02/2024 20:13

We've just discussed this over dinner.

Me: Tell me, hypothetically, if you had your testicles removed and self-identified as a Muslim woman, how long would you expect me to keep them in the fridge?

MrG: Fridge or freezer? And how would they be wrapped?

Me: Fridge, apparently. In a plastic bag.

MrG: Well, within the week I'd probably have mistaken them for meatballs and cooked and eaten them for lunch one day when you were out.

DeanElderberry · 08/02/2024 20:22

In well less than a week they'd have started to rot at fridge temperatures.

JanesLittleGirl · 08/02/2024 21:36

And then I woke up from my surreal dream.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/02/2024 22:13

I'm assuming they're pickled as well as being refrigerated. Otherwise they would indeed be rotten.

In more palatable news, I see Parkrun has dealt with the 'men taking women's rankings' problem by simply removing records and rankings from the website.

Men are not happy about losing their times.

I do hope you don't know that through personal experience!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/02/2024 22:29

I wouldn't take that bet.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/02/2024 22:36

Parkrun just been on BBC 10 o'clock news, with Mara Yamauchi (saying denying fairness to women is exclusionary; and the voiceover saying she wants parkrun to follow national and international athletics rules - although they did, I think, misrepresent her views by saying she wanted to exclude from the women's category people¹ whose gender identity doesn’t match their sex at birth²) and a man who held the 'most first finishes' record and is now disappointed to have lost bragging rights (no mention from him of either women or trans runners).

Not an in depth piece, but interesting who was picked as the 2 sides.

¹ Rather than men.
² No mention of 'assigned'!

Clabony · 08/02/2024 22:49

Yes, I saw that Binturong.
I'm just settling down to watch Question Time starring the darling of FWR - Wes Streeting.
He looks so earnest.🙄

mach2 · 11/02/2024 00:16

As Alexi Sayle said, he looks like a son that Starmer has fashioned out of margarine.

EasternStandard · 12/02/2024 19:22

I feel like this is a good place to raise it and other threads on the topic are a hard read generally so not there

But I have been musing on the reaction to Rosie Duffield within Labour and liking a tweet and recent antisemitic conspiracy in Rochdale

Feels very out of sync

Clabony · 12/02/2024 23:07

The tobacco case will be an interesting one to follow. Thanks for posting it. Cake

I agree re the shameful conspiracy stuff Eastern. I didn't hear him condemning the grooming gangs and their drug dealing pals still organising in the town. Perhaps I missed it? Better to whip up the crowd with the anti semitism conspiracy tale. As you say, RD only liked a tweet. Although I hear the Rochdale Labour candidate has been suspended from the party now, as more has come to light.

Galloway must be enjoying the hoo ha. He'll turn it to his advantage.

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/02/2024 09:27

I found this article fascinating (and depressing). But the best bit is the comments, in which a lone TW amply demonstrates the total lack of evidence and coherent thought of the GI lunocracy.

Why did three journals reject my puberty-blocker study?

Trans children deserve to know the facts

MouseMinge · 13/02/2024 14:11

To be fair, TP knows that puberty blockers are safe so that's the end of that argument. I don't know why we don't just listen and hear the troot when it's given to us by people with all the scientific expertise of an amoeba.
