Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Scrolling down, it just goes on and on. And, as the DM acknowledges, it's probably incomplete. A nod to Karen Ingala Smith would have been nice but I'm glad it's getting some exposure. And yes, so many killed in their homes, so many killed by their 'loved ones'. Domestic violence and, sometimes, mental illness too. I don't want to imagine what the women living with their murderers went through in the time; hours, days, years, leading up to their deaths.

Boiledbeetle · 03/01/2024 18:45

Wow. A man. Makes a change from a woman doing these things!

Oh dear! They're going to have to invent a new crime of man-in-a-dress-phobia.

duc748 · 03/01/2024 21:36

You're laughing now...

MouseMinge · 04/01/2024 00:47

As someone posted on the twitters in response, ACAB, however, big up the Suffolk constabulary. The bloke who did it is going to be so cross he didn't get called a lady! Ha!

Wee OJ has been announced as a new contributor to Scotland's The National newspaper (average copy readership approx. 3000) - online comments seem to be a toss-up between the partnership being more embarrassing for OJ or The National.

I see you don't mention their massive number of digital subscribers - 345 at the last count!

Clabony · 04/01/2024 20:30

The little in LOJ has a whole new meaning for me now.

The worst bit was the photo they used looked like a piss take mock up! So I initially thought it was a joke!

Aye, I know! I also thought it was a piss take!

It looks like a failed piss-take of a police mugshot, but it would have been much better with the height measurement of 5'2" slightly above his head.

MouseMinge · 04/01/2024 22:03

Bless him. He'll be preaching to the never to be converted.

I just went to wiki and read this. I arfed!

By January 2015, daily sales had fallen to below 20,000. The following year, its print edition dropped below 10,000, and was being outsold by every Scottish regional daily newspaper with the exception of the Paisley Daily Express.[2]

JanesLittleGirl · 04/01/2024 22:31

Oh how the mighty are fallen.

Clabony · 04/01/2024 22:41

LOJ looks in need of an Irn Bru or ten.

MouseMinge · 05/01/2024 01:44

Does anyone watch Taskmaster? Whenever I see LOJ written down, I'm saying it in the voice that Greg Davies uses to say "Little Alex Horne." It warms my cockles.

I'd missed this awful action by the WHO. Talk about underhand!

There's a link to a petition on the thread but note it displays your full name:

WHO publishes 'controversial gender guidance' www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4972039-who-publishes-controversial-gender-guidance

I'm entirely unsurprised by the mendaciousness of The Right Side of History.

Glynis Johns has died.

That may not seem particularly relevant to the thread, but she (via Mary Poppins) gave me my first conscious awareness of feminism.

MouseMinge · 05/01/2024 19:49

I've signed the petition. I hope it makes a difference, but good grief there's captured and captured. It's appalling.

He's a bizarre obsessed man.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 06/01/2024 17:28

He seems to have changed something on Twitter- I never used to be able to read his Tweets as I was blocked, but all of a sudden I can, and indeed without my following him, he was there in my feed and not because his tweet was liked, or even followed by anyone I follow.

I've blocked him and I am tempted to put up the same photo of Magdalen as Bev.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/01/2024 17:33

Bev Jackson has three new posts up, all about Magdalen Berns.

What an absolute shit. "Venerate"?! It's in memory, it's remembering a fine woman who died far too young. I only came to her after her death and I think she was marvellous. There's a huge difference in admiring someone, "venerating" them and being fucking obsessed with slagging off someone who's dead and can't answer you. He wouldn't dare if she was alive; she would anihilate him!
