Try rereading, maybe a little more slowly.

'If I were to ask him some pertinent questions, which I wouldn't'

You made out the only thing stopping you was alleged red flags, you're still talking like its okay ... and its not, its a terrible thing to even think is okay let alone do it

JellySaurus · 18/10/2023 23:49

But it's OK for men to talk about approaching girl children because they would like to ask them about inserting tampons?

Stephannee · 19/10/2023 01:42

Upper class billionaire white women don't tend to go to prison very often if at all. She can say what she wants knowing comfortably she can afford the best lawyers money can buy (unlike most of us).

Anyway isn't she meant to be "cancelled"? She's in the media non stop harping on about trans people.

The fact that what she says about the issue is being reported in media is a choice by the media, in this case the Times. The editorial team obviously think that what she says is of interest to enough people to be worth publishing. That's the newspaper's choice, not hers. She doesn't command them to quote her or write about her.

What a Queen 🩷

Tallisker · 18/10/2023 22:45

TransWoman see, I don't think it would be. I'm sure she'd be fine in Wormwood Scrubs. But then you don't understand women, do you?

You've obviously zilch experience of women's prisons. They're certainly not nice 🙄
And yep, she'd be sent to a women's prison because she's a WOMAN

QueenBitch666 · 19/10/2023 02:01

Sorry @Tallisker Flowers
Was replying to @TransWoman

Well obviously I've never been to one. But everything I have read about them (including HMIP reports) suggests they are considerably more pleasant environments to be confined in than men's prisons.

HMP Low Newton (the highest security women's prison in the UK) has an extensive set of gardens and a petting zoo. I don't think they have those at Belmarsh.

Female criminals are treated with kindness and compassion. I'm not saying that is wrong. But it does create problems when it comes to trans women. I'm not sure what the right approach is here.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 19/10/2023 02:21

Because there are less female prisoners there are less female prisons. Which means they can't be categorised in the same way.

Low security and maximum security are all held in the one facility.

So certainly not "nice" although probably not as bad as a men's high security prison, but worse than a men's low security prison.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 19/10/2023 02:30

Oh and JKR is bloody awesome!

The poster you’re responding to here is not the same person you originally quoted (and misunderstood — or at least, misrepresented in your earlier reply).

So much righteous outrage and yet you barely even seem to be clocking the key details of what you’re reading.

And no, it isn’t ‘a terrible thing’ to set out a hypothetical scenario in which a woman correctly identifies and names a man’s sex. FGS

MrsMitford3 · 19/10/2023 03:10

She is a bloody hero.

Prepared to actually put her neck on the line.

Such an impressive and brave woman

Coyoacan · 19/10/2023 05:16

It's interesting, on the one hand, the prisons are so full that rapists are apparently being let off because there is no room in the inn, so to speak, and on the other, Labour are thinking up more and more trivial reasons to send people to prison.

So will the rapists be wandering the streets while people who used the wrong pronoun fill the cells?

Datun · 19/10/2023 05:24

“Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet.”

If there's one thing JKR knows about, it's the effect of a spotlight.

That's the point. She's prepared to stick her neck out, risking incarceration, because the justice that women are seeking is being denied them, due to the fact that it costs money.

She's letting the Labour Party know that if they they fondly believe they can impose this ridiculous law on women without being challenged, they are very much mistaken.

Datun · 19/10/2023 05:34

spookehtooth · 18/10/2023 23:13

You think its okay to approach a stranger in the street walking around and minding their own business, in spaces everyone agrees they have the lawful right to be, for the specific purposes of getting into some kind of argument?

I think you have some issues of your own. Nobody deserves their day to disrupted like that, for any reason whatsoever. You're no different to a man cat calling, wolf whistling or giving a woman any of the unwanted attention they get going about their day, minding their own business.

Edited

Do you really believe that if women genuinely think they are being forced to participate in a man's fetish, erroneous self image or power play, they can't say anything??

lol

JKR seems to be very good at rattling cages, so to speak.

Actually she’s talking about really stupid policy announcements from the Labour Party.

The obvious approach would be to improve male prisons and for males prisoners incarcerated therein to be treated with kindness and respect than to use female prisons as a useful resource for males who quite fancy having access to a petting zoo.

Lock them up with the other men,it's no problem at all.

I dearly wish the English language did not have gendered pronouns. This whole damn problem would immediately disappear.

The problem isn't about gendered pronouns, it is about those who insist everyone else should comply by lying about reality.

IncomingTraffic · 19/10/2023 08:20

Who cares about whether prisons are nice? Thats completely not the point here.

Terfosaurus · 19/10/2023 08:23

I know we are supposed to be just six women with lots of sock puppets but I don’t think rightsraptor and arabella are the same. And I don’t think you can assume that rightsraptor would also go around asking questions of strangers as rightsraptor was using this as an example of different intentions and actions. I mean, I could be wrong and rights would be right to correct my mistake about their writings…

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/10/2023 08:33

Isn't JKR famously not a billionaire, because she's given away so much money to good causes, including research into multiple sclerosis and charities focusing on women and children? What a woman.

I see as usual JKR's comments on women's rights have been automatically heard as a comment on trans issues.

We should get 'I must not tell lies' trending on Twitter if it isn't already.
