Starmer says a woman is a female adult

I can't see a post about this quote in The Observer today
There are a lot of pissed off people on X about this.

"Sunak received his loudest applause from the Tory crowd in Manchester when he lunged into the arguments about identity issues by baldly declaring: “A man is a man and a woman is a woman.” Does Starmer, whose own party has its divisions on the subject, agree? “Yes, of course,” he responds crisply and without qualification. “You know, a woman is a female adult.”

Whatever Keir, too late now.

Indeed.
Sneaking out of the bunker behind someone else doesn't count. He was happy to denounce the notion that only a woman could have a cervix not so long ago.

Desecratedcoconut · 08/10/2023 14:48

Interesting. He's really gone some distance since declaring that it was forbidden to say that only women have a cervix. Wonder if he'll get the pantomime villain treatment from Russel-Moyle now?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 08/10/2023 14:48

But they can be a man, as well, you know TWAW, blah, blah wriggle gurn…..

ChaToilLeam · 08/10/2023 14:49

But can she have a penis, Kier?

EdgeOfACoin · 08/10/2023 14:56

Depends on his definition of 'female'.

TRAs have started to claim that mtf transitioners are 'adult human females', which makes a nonsense of the English language.

This is the question. We all know a woman is a adult female, but Keir seems confused as to who qualifies for this title.
Men who declare they're women apparently still qualify, until he explicitly says otherwise.

Desecratedcoconut · 08/10/2023 14:57

Oh God, I had no idea female was being mangled now.

Ingenieur · 08/10/2023 14:59

But not a human? Oh Keir...

Boomboom22 · 08/10/2023 15:01

But do 1 in 1000 of those women still have penises?

RudsyFarmer · 08/10/2023 15:01

So he does know. Interesting! 🤔

Thelnebriati · 08/10/2023 15:07

Watch how he votes on 'clarify sex means biology in The Equality Act'. Until he supports that, and apologises to Rosie Duffield, and to all of the women harassed out of the Labour Party; he can say what he likes. Actions speak louder than words.

HagoftheNorth · 08/10/2023 15:08

Good to hear, but I need him to be very specific now about his meaning of the word ‘female’. Definitions aren’t dogwhistles, they are essential to our proper understanding of each other. Kier’s been too far in the TRA direction for me to just assume he’s changed his mind.

MargotBamborough · 08/10/2023 15:10

Right, but does Keir agree with Stella Creasy that trans women are female?

We’ll see some tiny trotters flying overhead

Not only are they gonna take all the female IDs, they're gonna take all the dictionary definitions.

This is like the spirit of Monty Python got genetically modified and hybridised with the Andrew Tate manifesto.

We're gonna create a world of cracked mirrors and George Orwell 1984 Newspeak, and like all good misogynistic men, wear you down until you break.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 08/10/2023 15:13

What i would love is for sunak and starmer to explain what they think is going on. From the diagnosis process, to the practicality of sse when men have government issued female id, to the dbs system where men without a grc can use a helpline to hide their sex.

Everytime something becomes news, like a man in a womens prison, its a huge shock to everyone, and a policy gets amended.

I dont think sunak has the first clue. I think starmer knows more. I dont know which is worse.

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 15:18

"Of course a woman is an adult female", no comment beyond that, it's not been brought up on the doorstep.

There you have it. He's as much a spinner of facts as any other politician.

Women have no champion in this guy, the judgement for individual GC women voters is whether this is a reasonable minimal offer from him, to vote him in to enact the things that all women will benefit from.

Or whether he's by definition untrustworthy and captured even to a small degree, and mission creep in the wrong direction will happen once he gets the keys.

WallaceinAnderland · 08/10/2023 15:21

Oooh, so close. Just a tiny bit more clarification. Come on, you can do it. Make it a landslide election.

He's dipped his toe in the muddied water and the sky didn't fall on him. Maybe he's getting braver.

Myalternate · 08/10/2023 15:51

No one cares what boris thinks now. It’s Starmer that’s in the spotlight.

Floisme · 08/10/2023 15:55

Even if it's a bit of spin and Double-Speak, I'm still pleased he thinks it's politically expedient to say it. Next I'd like to see him drop in at the LWD fringe events, give a personal and public assurance that they will have a stand at the main conference next year, and pose for a photo with Rosie Duffield.

GreenVelvetCushions · 08/10/2023 16:04

Well we know it's a big fat lie that no one has mentioned this on the doorsteps Keir.

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 16:11

“You know, a woman is a female adult.” That answer will delight some while dismaying those who regard the position as transphobic. He does not expand on the subject, claiming that the issue was “not raised with us” on doorsteps.

Well, I'm glad he's been forced to say it at least, just as Rishi was.

It's going down as predicted.

Starmer & Sunak may try to drive us to suicide and instigate murder against us but as long as we have our allies we will survive.

🙄

So dramatic.
