Starmer says a woman is a female adult

I can't see a post about this quote in The Observer today
There are a lot of pissed off people on X about this.

"Sunak received his loudest applause from the Tory crowd in Manchester when he lunged into the arguments about identity issues by baldly declaring: “A man is a man and a woman is a woman.” Does Starmer, whose own party has its divisions on the subject, agree? “Yes, of course,” he responds crisply and without qualification. “You know, a woman is a female adult.”

Starmer & Sunak may try to drive us to suicide and instigate murder against us but as long as we have our allies we will survive.

🙄

So dramatic.

Yet they insist it's not a mental health condition...

quantumbutterfly · 08/10/2023 16:36

so to paraphrase an american slogan...it's the biological reality, stupid!

I hope he listens to this eloquent woman:

I've only just seen this woman and I respect her so much already.

Palmasailor · 08/10/2023 16:39

It’s still snake tongue.

until he says a woman was born with a vagina and ovaries and a man was born with a cock and balls he’s fucked

and rightly so

we need this shit to stop right now

caringcarer · 08/10/2023 16:41

Depends what his definition of adult female is though.

caringcarer · 08/10/2023 16:42

GreenVelvetCushions · 08/10/2023 16:04

Well we know it's a big fat lie that no one has mentioned this on the doorsteps Keir.

I've asked my prospective Labour candidate.

HermioneWeasley · 08/10/2023 16:49

They are also planning to make it easier to change “gender”, so I don’t trust him for one nanosecond.

Toseland · 08/10/2023 16:56

He says women are adult and female?!
I can't believe the gall of this man!
We are adult female humans. Humans!
We are women and half the human race and he is denying women their place. He doesn't see us as human or have any respect for us.
Until the Labour leader apologises to women, children and LGB people, and restores our rights I am not voting for them.

I know we all have our own stories, but can I also please call B.S. on the "no one raises this on the door step": I posted when I did in summer, and the candidate was quite smooth so he was either practiced in preparation as he thought it would come up, or practiced as it already had . I do feel he might be close to snapping and saying that female still means what 95% of the population know it to mean. Though agree he's only doing it as realises will dog him till election if he tries to do a strugon. That car crash interview she did must have scared the sh!t out of him

Toseland · 08/10/2023 16:58

Ooh sorry I don't know how there is a youtube link in my post and I can't seem to remove it!

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/10/2023 16:58

we need to stop this shit right now.
I agree. We need PM Sunak to take control right now. Decisive action now will strengthen us for future fights. Get the guidance out to schools now. Protect women and children now.

We will fight Starmer when that battle comes.

Duffdee · 08/10/2023 17:00

Well that’s OK then. Might as well all crack on and vote Labour. What could possibly go wrong.

Helleofabore · 08/10/2023 17:20

So he has just repeated his carefully curated phrase. The one I suspect he and the team feel is ambiguous enough as long as no interviewer ask to clarify that.

I also suspect that he will avoid any interviewer that will press him. Remember Labour Party women members cannot even get a motion moved to open the discussion to confirm what the party means.

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 17:40

I can't believe how hard a time I'm giving myself over should I/shouldn't I vote for Starmer. That time will end soon, because his position becomes more cynical the more he massages the language. Soon I'll be past the point of wondering, or even caring, if Starmer is truly a champion of women, or even a different kind of politician.

Indeed, in so many ways he's as cynical and slippery as the Tories, just with the advantages of being the change, the new face, the adult in the room.

Sorry, he's had months to really take a principled stand. I've seen his people, they're the ones forcing Rosie Duffield to have protection at conferences, stop LWD have a stand, gang up to shout down women at LWS today.

Starmer...you had your chance, you cannot be trusted.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 08/10/2023 17:47

You know what he’s like for flip flopping on issues though. He’ll be full on TWAW in under a fortnight.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 08/10/2023 17:50

The question to ask him is Are transwomen adult females or adult males

Helleofabore · 08/10/2023 17:52

This is exactly the question to ask.

And is the holder of a GRC an adult female in his view.

Until it is clarified, it is a never ending cycle of confusion.

Yes to all of this.

ValancyRedfern · 08/10/2023 17:59

'No one raises this on the doorstep' is definitely a line that's been issued to all Labour mps to use in response to this question. It was used on BBC Politics Live earlier this week, and I've heard it countless other times as well. We all know it's a lie but they clearly think it's a lie that's worth telling.

GreenVelvetCushions · 08/10/2023 16:04

Exactly.

Although, just because nobody's mentioned it on the doorstep, doesn't mean he gets to ignore it.

I doubt anyone has mentioned getting a trade deal with Mexico, it doesnt mean that he shouldnt pursue one.

puffyisgood · 08/10/2023 18:04

yeah, meaningless rubbish really. he could easily wriggle out of it by saying that this definition of "woman" is as near as damnit comprehensive, enough so for him to agree with it without needing to point out the handful of girldick brandishing exceptions at the edges of womanhood.

RoyalCorgi · 08/10/2023 18:10

Last time he was asked this he said a woman was an "adult female". Now it's "female adult". What's that all about? And why can't he bring himself to say "adult human female"?

And such a lie. I have raised it on the doorstep with labour canvassers twice.

RoyalCorgi · 08/10/2023 18:15

And such a lie. I have raised it on the doorstep with labour canvassers twice.

There was someone recently - I can't remember if it was you, Helleofabore, or another Mumsnetter, who raised it on the doorstep with a Labour canvasser, who responded with: "It never comes up on the doorstep."

These people are so dense light bends around them.
