About time, I agree. Only, they’re backing away from blindly supporting TQ+ policies which have nothing to do with LGBs (and usually have hurt Ls).

MapleTerfLady · 20/09/2023 02:31

You're right. The title was poorly worded. My apologies.

No worries, and thank you!

“Formal use of preferred first name for transgender or non-binary students under the age of 16 will require parental consent,” reads the amended policy. Higgs faced a caucus revolt over the change, but countered that he was prepared to call an election over the issue.

That's the way to do it.

I hope Sunak's watching.

WorriedMutha · 20/09/2023 07:03

If you note the stats quoted in the piece and the comments underneath it, the public aren't buying this bs and in the end politicians have to catch up.

Yes its good to see that the threat of making this a single issue election over who has parental rights and responsibilities, parents or the school who are brainwashing the kids, made the (insert baned g word) back the fuck off.

I had Canadian relatives to stay over the summer. Within a hour of arriving at our house they were expounding, unprompted, on the craziness in Canadian schools (the wife is a teacher, they are both progressive, kind people).

highame · 20/09/2023 07:37

It always astounds me that our political class of 'progressives' haven't understood the importance of understanding the impact of policies on the population. Our Labour party thinks that given time everyone will be on board with TWAW, that we're just a bit behind at the moment. I have always found this pompous way of thinking very off putting. I want to see real debate, real understanding, not of the dinner party socialists, but of those ordinary people whose lives are badly affected by many political decisions.

literalviolence · 20/09/2023 07:41

yes. Labour need to stop being so arrogant and realise that they're the ones who are behind. they've been duped by male supremacist thinking. Canada has been a dangerous shit show of late so it's good to see moves to address the pseudo equality policies

Rightsraptor · 20/09/2023 07:43

Isn't it today (or Wednesday at least, I'm in the UK but in Canada it may still be Tuesday) that there's the Million Person marches by parents concerned about the gender woo and their children? I saw Meghan Murphy talking about it.

ghostofadog · 20/09/2023 08:00

Good news for Canada, let's hope they can turn this around.

It's not policies on the population, it is on women, always.

MapleTerfLady · 20/09/2023 13:54

I admit that I'm frustrated that every attempt to push back or have any slightly critical conversation about gender identity or self ID ends up with the media finding a way to label us as bigots, alt right, transphobic, homophobic or anti LGBTQ.

Recently I saw in the news they were saying that the phrase "parental rights" is now a dog whistle for transphobia and homophobia. Nothing we do is ever right in their eyes unless we're just mindlessly nodding in agreement with them is it?

It's exhausting. It's going to come back to bite them eventually.

Times are changing.

Large crowds have gathered in cities across Canada today in a galvanizing moment of mass political action against gender ideology. Organizing under the hashtag #1MillionMarch4Children, it is the largest protest of its kind in the world to date. Gender identity is deeply unpopular with the public and this is the first time that divide of public opinion has been put on display.
“Our turnout is insanely better,” Eva Kurilova tweeted from Calgary, Alberta. She posted the above photos comparing the march turnout against the usual counterprotesters. “This is a lot of people” marching, she said. However, there is “not much of a counterprotest.”

Canadians Are All Done With Gender Ideology

The turning point is here

Imnobody4 · 20/09/2023 20:05

This really is massive,

Today, parents all over 🇨🇦 are taking to the streets in the #1MillionMarch4Children because our schools are at the centre of the most devastating social contagion in all of history, and it's time to get the pseudoscientific claptrap of gender ideology out of our education system.

@Imnobody4 wow! This is the first I've heard of it! That's amazing. Canada's just been so quiet on the matter I sometimes started to wonder if I was alone. My husband's family doesn't even talk to us because back in 2014 I said "I think trans women should have their own bathrooms or use the family restroom." I was in no way trying to be hateful! I just saw the slippery slope that it was and how the conversation was happening without us women. I really beat myself up over that for years because I blamed myself for my husband losing contact with his family and given an ultimatum of "It's her or us." 😭 I guess things really are taking a surprising turn!

It's so heartening to see opposition growing in Canada, it's only a few years ago that they were hounding out Meghan Murphey. The press there has been so captured and yet people have found out what's going on eventually.

Boomboom22 · 20/09/2023 21:13

Thank god. If Canada which is way way further captured than the UK can put this in for schools surely Rishi can?

Imnobody4 · 20/09/2023 21:40

Let me make one thing very clear: Transphobia, homophobia, and biphobia have no place in this country. We strongly condemn this hate and its manifestations, and we stand united in support of 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians across the country – you are valid and you are valued.
Response from Justin Trudeau on X.
Some people are saying he's finished ‐ I do hope so.

ArabeIIaScott · 20/09/2023 21:44

See, the more they push the bullshit onto people, the bigger the crash is going to be when it finally all comes down.

Well done, Canada. Well done.

Imnobody4 · 20/09/2023 21:50

I'm almost in tears ‐ could this really be the turning point?

Pixiedust1234 · 20/09/2023 21:57

What is 2S?

Well done Canada. Hopefully Trudeau gets ousted too, was very surprised he managed to survive the trucker/banking scandal tbh
