Double Murder Chelmsford

Apparently a woman has been charged with a double murder (parents maybe) - but there are no picture of the accused. Anyone else find this weird, or have I become an overly-suspicious harridan? Violent murder doesn't seem like a female crime...

Of course it’s possible. Murder is always violent.

Myalternate · 18/09/2023 19:24

Oops 😬 I realise that might read as snarky and I really didn’t intend it to. Sorry

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 18/09/2023 19:26

I had the same thought. Mostly because I know think "woman woman, or man woman" every single time I see a crime reported in the news.

I really bloody hate that I can't actually get factual information from any news source on the basic facts.

This might well be an actual woman. But it might also be a male who IDs as a woman.

Ten years ago I wouldn't have had to wonder about that.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/09/2023 19:32

Yes, me too. If an article says a 'woman' has committed a crime, particularly one that is atypical for an actual woman, I'm immediately sceptical. This case, fuck knows!

PermanentTemporary · 18/09/2023 19:34

I have to say now, as in late 2023, I do think it's a woman. I think journalists have got a lot cannier on how to report this - more likely to say 'a 52-year-old has been arrested' or something like that.

megletthesecond · 18/09/2023 19:34

I thought the same. Of course, it might be accurate but I've seen enough nonsense to know it might be false.

LizziesTwin · 18/09/2023 19:37

I thought the same. RIP the couple whoever they might be.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 18/09/2023 19:37

This is a weird one altogether. They’ve given a five year time frame and the bodies haven’t yet been found. 🤷‍♀️

The news tonight reported that human remains have been found in the house.

Off topic but it wouldn't be violent if someone was poisoned surely? Sky news have a court drawing that looks like it is a woman.

Yes, I’ve just seen that on the local paper website.

According to bmd, a John McCullough and Lois Butcher had a child named Virginia in 1987 so it seems in this case it could be an actual woman.

Cheers for finding that out.

It pisses me off no end that we have to do this fact checking ourselves now.

DuesToTheDirt · 18/09/2023 20:52

I thought the same thing when I saw the headline.

It's frustrating that we can no longer take what we read at face value.

Snickerrs · 18/09/2023 21:19

It is frustrating. But on the bright side, you can run but you can’t hide from bmd records. All those that change their names and complain of dead naming, their birth name will forever be on record on gro!

Flyhigher · 19/09/2023 06:52

Were they ill and she helped them Suicide?

yetanotherusernameAgain · 19/09/2023 07:11

It hadn't occurred to me. I think it's perfectly possible for such a crime to have been committed by a woman.

Meceme · 19/09/2023 07:51

It's possible that she cracked due to caring responsibilities to elderly parents. The time frame covers the covid/lockdown periods where getting help and support was a nightmare. As a carer isolated themselves, possibly with poor mental health due to stress, worry or fear people can make irrational decisions.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 19/09/2023 09:09

She’s a woman woman. Although I can see how from the reporting that would be questioned. She was always very odd, and was known locally to be a ‘character’. Waiting to see how it h folds - very sad state of affairs for all involved.

Certainly possible. It's also possible there was no actual homicide: it's not unknown for relatives to conceal natural deaths, so they can continue to receive pensions.

However, I think we should be keeping an open mind either way. Women are much less likely than men to commit murder, but there are still around 50 homicides by women each year.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/09/2023 09:39

It is sad and we don't know how it's going to play out. Women are absolutely capable of murder. But it's shameful that the media are reporting crimes in such a fashion that we cannot trust such a basic fact.

She’s female and she’s pleaded guilty to the murder of her parents today: www.essex.police.uk/news/essex/news/news/2024/july/chelmsford-daughter-admits-murdering-parents/

lcakethereforeIam · 04/07/2024 15:41

There was another case from last year, a woman was fatally stabbed by her 'daughter', Bronwyn, that seemed off...Bronwyn's picture! He seems to have detrans since being charged. Admits he killed his mum but not murder. Awful story. A dead mum, a grieving daughter and a seriously disturbed son whose authentic self has committed a terrible crime.

elgreco · 04/07/2024 15:42

How did the other 3 daughters not notice their parents missing over 5 years?
