I'd say Russell T Davies when he had his drunken rant. I get his concern that lgbt is being fractured. But his absent concern for Women and their rights was palpable. I honestly thought he had more sense.

My husband.

We had an argument over whether TWAW. Apparently, he says, they are "the most vulnerable group," and in saying that TWAM I am aligning myself with bigots, transphobes and the right wing. Oh, he thinks "assigned at birth" is just what people say, not controversial at all.

His wife and daughters, it seems, have no right to exclude males with lady brains from female-only spaces.

littlbrowndog · 19/09/2023 20:15

Great thread. Agree with all of you

this is the biggest fight ever for women and children

no one I know agrees with this stuff. They mock it

but then I live in Scotland where every council nhs public body is captured. They are all too afraid Cowards. I speak out

@LoadOfTripe oh no! I think I would genuinely be devastated if my oh thought that. 😕

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/09/2023 20:28

Apparently, he says, they are "the most vulnerable group"

It's insane to me that men can -apparently seriously - say this to women's faces.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/09/2023 20:32

Alex Cole Hamilton (leader of the Scottish Lib Dems)

I saw him with his family in my local Sainsbos just after him clapping the violent and all round concerning trans 'woman' Pickle Bee in parliament and had the biggest rush of anger towards him.

RealityFan · 19/09/2023 20:34

Rachel Dolezal to genuine PoC "I'm black, like you". PoC response "Get outta here, girl!"
Result, no viral phenomenon of transracialism, PoC the absolutely rigid gatekeepers on this.

Men to women "I'm female, like you". Female response, 99% say "Get outta here, non girl!"
The other 1% say "Welcome to the club, and the first thing I'll do to help you is spend the next few years silencing the 99% who don't comply".

I am. We have been married for many years and had few serious arguments. It's now the elephant in the room.

I saw that episode of Blue Peter. I know what elephants do in rooms.

Every time I go past his constituency office, I have to resist the urge to hiss.

Have to say I'm currently v disappointed in rather too many so called GC men being disparaging about the women Russell Brand has abused ( "allegedly"). James Esses is particularly disappointing.

I didn't see that about Esses specifically, but I certainly noted many of the self-styled anti-woke pundits queuing up to make excuses for Brand.

Why am I not even surprised? Sad Once again, we see that people on any "side" of the "culture war" (I bloody hate that term) turn out to be knee-jerk unthinking Bundle-of-Beliefs tribalists.

Musomama1 · 19/09/2023 21:25

So many people who lack critical thinking around all this. Thinking of people that I know! Eye opening.

But for me, big time feminist orgs like Fawcett Society.

I mean even if they really do think that accepting males into female spaces is good for womankind, at least condemn the violence and cancellation women have faced for voicing their opinions.

It's unforgivable to be honest.

This is a little unfair on Esses. He's asking for due process to take on Brand, not heresay in the media. What will happen if Brand's legal team successfully argue his case is scuppered because no jury will be unbiased?
And I'm afraid I am reminded of Kevin Spacey. He was obliterated in the media, lost everything before the case even got to court. That didn't end well.

PermanentTemporary · 19/09/2023 21:30

I do think some trans people are incredibly vulnerable, or that vulnerable people are particularly likely to want to transition (looked after children, traumatised children, people suffering homophobic or sexist bullying, ND) . That has zero connection with them having really changed sex.

What will happen? Nothing will fucking happen. Every woman in the world knows it. The courts will not help us.

'Due process', when it comes to rape, is a cruel joke.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/09/2023 21:59

especially Ruth Coppinger

Even apart from this, Coppinger is an absolute weapon.

Years ago when my DC were small, she was leafleting outside the primary school ahead of a GE. My eldest went to take a leaflet, as instructed by me & RC didn't spot me nearby initially & refused to give her one & told her to get lost.

Minor, but it stuck with me!

brightdayloomingdark · 19/09/2023 12:25

This.

Starmer for me too.

Plus: WEP, the Fawcett Society, Fabians, Labour Women’s Network.

cheezncrackers · 19/09/2023 22:05

Actual scientists are the biggest disappointment to me. I expect idiocy from the vast majority of MPs, actors, television presenters and writers in left-wing rags like The Guardian, but I don't expect unscientific nonsense from actual scientists. Alice fucking Roberts knows damn well what a woman is and could identify any skeleton of any age that has an intact pelvis as being male or female.

As for Brian Cox, well he's a physicist, but I assume he knows basic anatomy, after all he managed to marry a non-man and have DC with her, so it appears that he too knows what a woman is when it suits him. Virtue signalling nonsense from people who know they're talking nonsense is unforgivably cowardly.

RealityFan · 19/09/2023 22:06

I'm very lucky. My icons have not said anything to disappoint me. Either they are too old during this period (Stan Lee RIP of Marvel Comics) or have been GC/free speech allies (Ricky Gervais, John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson), or artists prominent just before this explosion (much missed Neil Peart).

I would really hate it if my faves were unequivocal TRA allies or cowardly enablers/two faces.

IamSarah · 19/09/2023 22:15

Caroline Lucas. Not a word of support for female rape and sexual abuse survivors in Brighton trying to secure a single sex support group.

MMBaranova · 19/09/2023 22:30

Where did he get the views from @LoadOfTripe ? I’m curious about the processes whereby this nonsense seeps into people’s brains and turns them into uncritical mush.

I think a lot of people like this are basically contrarians. That is, they are very skeptical about any bandwagon cause, they distrust the media, majority viewpoints, and socially accepted narratives, they don't believe people just because they are supposedly trustworthy, and they don't really care about being kind or being liked.

That's why they didn't jump on the various elements of the trans movement, and were willing to call out bs, even if people thought it made them wankers.

But it also means they take public accusations against people like Russel Brand with a big fat grain of salt, and are willing to say that in public.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 20/09/2023 01:32

Ask him if he would ever consider a TW as a sexual partner, if you and he were ever to split up. If he wouldn't, then it sounds like you are not the only bigot, according to his rules.

It's very easy for men like him to have a free option of whom they personally would welcome into their bed, but women are apparently never allowed the same free option of whom they will allow into their toilets, changing rooms, refuges, prisons and all other supposedly same-sex protected facilities - even their own bodies when they request a female HCP for intimate examinations and are gaslit that the person who is sent IS actually female.

PorcelinaV · 20/09/2023 01:59

I would try to explain to him that it's a guilt by association fallacy.

And apparently, as someone here explained it, "assigned at birth" originally made sense as it was created for disorders of sexual development.
