I'd say Russell T Davies when he had his drunken rant. I get his concern that lgbt is being fractured. But his absent concern for Women and their rights was palpable. I honestly thought he had more sense.

Caitlin Moran.

JackieQueen · 19/09/2023 14:31

Nigella Lawson, for backtracking and apologising.

BCCoach · 19/09/2023 14:26

@RealityFan I'm not sure that being called a racist, however much undeserved, is on the same level as routinely referring to non-white people as "darkies", or gay men as "poofters".

I don't hear that from anyone up here, and it's pretty provincial in these parts.
But "Brexiters are F**G RACIST C**S!" screamed at me at top volume, in a busy market...hmm, that seems a leftist form of abuse that is applauded by their side.
And sorry, but being told I was a racist by a 6'5" Jamaican guy in his own home, as everyone around me looked at the floor, is not gonna leave me anytime soon.

But agreed, not comparable to a lifetime of being demeaned as a minority.

Alice Roberts.
Sarah Champion - still can’t believe she’s on the tra bench.
Michael Cashman, I knew him 20+ years ago and I’m gutted that he turned out to be so horrible.
Any high profile Lesbian who is either full on tra or doesn’t speak out

Vargas · 19/09/2023 14:35

And so many others:

Sandi Toksvig and WEP
Amnesty international

Science bods like Adam Rutherford, Brian Cox (but I think his wife is openly GC), Alice Roberts, Ben Goldacre

And any of my friends who say 'JKR should have stuck to writing'

RebelliousCow · 19/09/2023 14:49

I think I just feel disappointed at how many people really are herd creatures - who prioritise group acceptance and belonging over speaking out against injustice.

I'm in a small and mostly rural community. I think people are much more likely to be conservative and 'traditional' in their views, which means most people are gender critical (if they are aware at all), but sadly also means that racist/sexist/homophobic views are also quite common and openly shared. Among older people there is very much a horror of places like London and Brighton and a determination that "things like that" don't happen here. People will watch a news story about something happening in London with the same level of detachment as something happening in Kabul: "it's all very sad but nothing to do with us." It makes it very easy for people to dismiss stuff without ever having to actually think about it.

So true. I'm urban rather than rural, but moved fairly recently to the heart of the Red Wall, after living for many years in the South-West. That real resentment of London (and Londoners) is certainly there. Of course, it is also fuelled by the (not unreasonable) belief that London gets the lion's share of investment, and general interest compared to other parts of the country. Especially non-Tory voting areas.

BCCoach · 19/09/2023 15:58

@duc748 the interesting thing is that this is actually London commuter belt (at a stretch) and even voted for Remain despite being deeply Conservative as there are quite a lot of middle-class London commuters, and older wealthy retirees who might have voted for remain purely on economic grounds. But there's also a large number of families who place a low value on education with many children leaving school before the legal age, and who hate any kind of outsider. I'm sure anyone who's been challenged to a fight in a village pub for accidentally looking at someone will know the type.

Mizzem · 19/09/2023 16:42

Its the sell out comedians for me. They've betrayed the entire premise of comedy in sucking trans dick.

MrsJamin · 19/09/2023 16:51

Kate/Kae Tempest - before 'transitioning' to NB she was a woman who didn't abide by gender stereotypes and spoke beautiful truth in her poetry. Taking different examples of women out of the group that call themselves women makes the group itself more homogenous, it does none of us any favours as it piles on more pressure for women to conform to stereotypes to still be called 'women'. Also she told me (and any other gender critical people) not to ever go to her gigs again... so bloody rude.

Likeafurchin · 19/09/2023 17:28

@MrsJamin I agree. It felt really personal as she seems to be saying that she needs "boring" women to rebel against - and she also doesn't like them. So egotistical.

That's what irritates me most about this "non binary" nonsense. It's not what they are saying about themselves, it's what they are saying about the rest of us that is offensive. Essentially that they are interesting and we are boring. They are identifying as more interesting than the rest of us.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 19/09/2023 17:48

I don't give a stuff if I'm boring and feel perfectly contented with my views. Insisting that you're 'interesting' seems awfully needy.

duc748 · 19/09/2023 17:51

I'm sure it seems a lot more important when you're in your twenties. As you get older, shits are harder to give.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 19/09/2023 17:53

True. Feels good, doesn't it.

popebishop · 19/09/2023 18:57

I think maybe I'm most disappointed in writers, in general, who I thought included more really thoughtful people.

For a start, they're generally interested in what words mean.

Appalonia · 19/09/2023 19:04

Agree with loads here, it's so depressing. I'll add Boy George, he bloody well knows what a woman is and that as a gender non confirming man who got famous whilst wearing make up and long hair, he's such a disappointment.

Personally, my BIL, who, during a conversation about this last year basically said that both me and my sister weren't 'real women' because neither of us had had children!

Also my older sister who doesn't understand why I'm so angry\active in this, as she feels that because it doesn't affect her personally, why should she care about it?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 19/09/2023 19:12

To think that it's actually their stock in trade to look for absurdities in their observations of human life - and many of them can be quite unrelenting when attacking famous people or specific groups - yet the biggest absurdity of all is right there, smacking them in the face, and they pretend that that makes 100% perfect sense.

Appalonia · 19/09/2023 19:18

It's quite scary and shocking how many pp are prepared to lie, stay silent or denounce others for personal gain. And for something to blatantly absurd!

However, I am so so grateful and inspired by the mainly unknown ( with a few notable exceptions ) pp who have shown such outstanding strength, determination and courage in fighting this. I feel proud to be part of a movement with such outstanding individuals in it.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/09/2023 19:29

Boy George kidnapped and tortured a man.

Violetparis · 19/09/2023 19:43

Jo Brand, Caitlin Moran, Jess Philips and others who have made money and a carerer out of their outspoken feminist credentials but refuse to speak up about what is happening to women's rights. Kathy Burke too though I do really like her.

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/09/2023 19:53

Is Jo Brand captured? Oh no 😞

Jo Brand and Kathy Burke?! Noooo!

Violetparis · 19/09/2023 19:58

Kathy Burke is captured, I've not heard Jo Brand say anything about it all which is disappointing. She is outspoken on other issues but not this.

Appalonia · 19/09/2023 20:04

Have to say I'm currently v disappointed in rather too many so called GC men being disparaging about the women Russell Brand has abused ( "allegedly"). James Esses is particularly disappointing.
