This is outrageous.

Stopped listening to radio 6 thanks to them cancelling Roisin Murphy.

They hate us don't they? Open to interpretation what utter bollox.

If the BBC are going to be complicit in witchhunts then I'm going to seriously think of cancelling my licence.

They've got me with CBeebies though sadly, I honestly find this the best channel for kid's programming.

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 07:37

Ah, come on. This band are a parody act. This is off their fb:

'Growing up in an environment that failed to nuture my trans-national queerness was tough, but I’ve used that pressure to write Femme Boi, to validate all the things about me that I couldn’t express back then. I’m so grounded in my gender euphoria these days, that the song is a celebratory revenge for me. With time, my own gender-euphoric feelings will change. Indeed they already have, and the song is in some ways a love-letter to a past self, written from a romantic, self-loving place. It isn’t about ‘passing’, about striving to blend in - it’s the antithesis of that. - Ishmael'

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2023 07:50

Call me a girl again
Kick terfs all day, don't break a sweat
Call me a girl again
Trans power is forever
Call me a girl again
My gender's not your business
Call me a girl again
Non-binary resistance!

It's pitiful Grin

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/09/2023 07:53

What is going to happen when they have all got their way, and everyone has to wear a Badge night and day proclaiming their pronouns, when women are penalised for refusing a random person sexual access, all wards, refuges, dormitories and prisons are mixed sex, and women ( the original sort) are legitimately and openly hassled and assaulted by ‘women’ ? Oh and MAP face no social or societal sanction?

Two things , I think. First, the very special people will have to find a new way of being very special, as even the cat and dog people are being accommodated in public and in public institutions. How will they manage this 🥺? It’s a bad lookout for them and for the not very special.

Secondly, we will return to an ‘honour’ society, where the safety and dignity of family or clan members are enforced or revenged by the family. That will be a sad regression, especially for the ‘non-men ‘.

RealityFan · 15/09/2023 08:19

They've got a song called Vagina Police. Apparently according to it, not all women have vaginas.

As that great philosopher, my old mum would have said on that, God rest her soul "well, you could have fooled me".

Maybe this one inspired Angela Eagle re her toilet police outburst.

Brefugee · 15/09/2023 08:25

My gender's not your business

this makes zero sense (in a whole world of nothing makes sense) because if their gender isn't my business i literally have to take a stab (for the monitors: not a real stab with a knife, but a guess, an estimation) at guessing their pronouns. And if it's not my business, they can fuck off with repeatedly telling me, right?

NashvilleQueen · 15/09/2023 08:26

Thanks @ArabeIIaScott. Disappointing but not surprising.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/09/2023 08:50

When everyone is special, no one is.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 15/09/2023 08:59

Fine, if they’re also willing to play “Disguise” by JME/Skepta and/or anything by Glinner but suspect they aren’t going to!

WaterThyme · 15/09/2023 09:38

Sadly, RealityFan, not all women do have vaginas. Those with Certain developmental disorders don’t (https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/~/media/website/patient-information-leaflets/childrens-services/disorders-of-sexual-development-and-adolescent-gynaecology/mrkh.pdf) .

1 in 5000. This condition is usually discovered when these girls reach puberty and don’t menstruate. The diagnosis is traumatic. They can be offered an operation to create an opening where their vagina should be which has to be kept dilated.

They are still adolescent females with a developmental disorder. This is not a sign of sex being a spectrum. The ovaries are present and function in the same way as any other woman’s by producing eggs and female hormones that keep her healthy.

lanadelgrey · 15/09/2023 09:49

Eh? Vaginas present but possibly shortened - it’s the uterus that is absent. Is this song a plea for better understanding of DSDs? I suspect not

Brewdug · 15/09/2023 10:00

To say 'people will interpret songs with any element of nuance or ambiguity differently' while refusing RM any similar 'nuance' in her views is the biggest load of bullshit I have heard from them yet.

It can't be a coincidence. And shame on Lamacq for playing it, and shame on all the big-name DJs on that channel for keeping their mouths shut about RM as well.

This is insane. 6Music used to be for old farts requesting deep cuts from The Fall. Shaun Keaveny left because he couldn't be political on there. They'd (rightly) fade out any violent lyrics in drive time gangster rap.
So why is this trend so untouchable there?

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 15/09/2023 10:00

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 07:42

Although that looks like an old episode. Was it played again recently?

Eyesofdisarray · 15/09/2023 10:01

Sent a complaint to BBC

ArabeIIaScott · 15/09/2023 10:01

Ah, I don't know, Alice. I just looked for mentions of the band/song.

”terfs” by definition DGAF about the band’s gender(s), surely? Isn’t that (much of) the point?

CorruptedCauldron · 15/09/2023 10:12

Proof, if any were needed, of a sacred caste.

Sing knuckle-bitingly awful lyrics about kicking terfs: Congratulations, you’ll get played on 6 Music.

Privately express concern that puberty blockers are damaging children’s health: Get in the bin - even if you’ve just released one of the best albums of the year.

Brings a whole new meaning to “them’s the breaks”…

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

These lyrics are just dreadful. I mean, as well as being violent, they're also just a bit shit. I can't help feeling they'd be much improved by a bit of 'ambiguity and nuance'. I find such violent lyrics distasteful in general, but recognise that they seem to be considered generally acceptable after the watershed etc., so I'm not going to be calling for it to be banned (I'm not in favour of banning/cancelling in general). But in light of ditching the supremely talented Roisin Murphy so blatantly it just feels a bit crass to offer up this aggressive and mostly meaningless crap instead.

WaterThyme · 15/09/2023 10:21

Thanks Arabella. I knew someone with this condition. She described it as not having a vagina and needing an operation to create one. Perhaps what she meant was that it was unusually short. Whether she had a cervix or womb I don’t know.

It was deeply traumatising for her and her family.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 15/09/2023 10:25

Thanks, Arabella, in many ways it doesn't matter because I'm shocked they ever thought that acceptable. They could also have responded saying that the track was played a while ago and they will review it.

Claire Graham has written about this - sadly not recently. She was brilliant at explaining and educating people about this condition.

Punk in general comes off to me as whiny teenage posturing.

The perfect genre to make a parody of the narcissism and self obsession of the "enby".
