Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

Well, the old Activist Community are not loving the fact of this book's existence, that's for sure. I can say that from a brief perusal of twitter.

What is it they say..?

Oh yes...

Stay mad, lolz 😆

Watchinghockey · 14/09/2023 16:56

The publisher website doesn't mention the books being signed. Are all the books from them signed, or is that just for substack subscribers?

I'm worried that Richard A might have naively thought 'it's a comment on Graham's writing skills, nothing more. I'm not saying I agree with him on anything' and not realise how utterly vindictive and nasty these new Puritans are. I really hope I'm wrong and he's geared up for battle.

I'll definitely be buying copies.

I think Richard knows all about peering over parapets. His wife is the sister of Lawrence ( Laurence?) Fox , so he probably knows all about what happens if you make unpopular statements.

Well done Richard for speaking up, and Johnathan Ross too.

BreadInCaptivity · 14/09/2023 17:03

Really pleased to hear about this and have put my Amazon order in.

I really hope this sells well, not just for Graham but (much like as with Roisin's album) as an important push back about the effectiveness of cancel culture.

Calls to cancel will only be silenced by proof it doesn't work and importantly if it actually boosts sales by raising awareness and people buying such output as a protest in itself it becomes counterproductive.

Furthermore, organisations who've previously bowed to pressure may well have a big re-think when they realise not supporting GC artists/writers is costing them revenue - and finally find their backbone.

For Graham especially, the success of this book could be pivotal in demonstrating the market for his work outside the caustic SM bubble which hopefully would enable him to re-open other opportunities such a the FT musical and new TV work.

Ultimately money talks, so even if you're not a fan buy the book as a Christmas gift for someone and let's get this moving up the book charts!!!

Zodfa · 14/09/2023 17:05

I like Willoughby's idea that anti-trans views are "very middle-class". I'm sure even the more thuggish elements of the working class have no problem with trans people whatsoever.

I really really hope so.

I hope everyone on these pages will buy a copy if they can.
GL has sacrificed so much for women.

I may buy it in paperback.

I didn't ask him to make those sacrifices and often wonder how and why it got so far

Farmageddon · 14/09/2023 17:14

Thanks for this, just pre-ordered it on Amazon.

I like Willoughby's idea that anti-trans views are "very middle-class". I'm sure even the more thuggish elements of the working class have no problem with trans people whatsoever.

Everything with them is projection. The so-called trans rights movement is the most middle-class movement I've ever seen.

BreadInCaptivity · 14/09/2023 17:20

Nobody did, but regardless I view this on two levels.

Even if GL's situation is a result of his own choices he's still lost a lost in fighting a cause I care deeply about.

I'm happy to "support" those choices by buying his book.

Secondly re: my pp I think there is a wider issue at play by pushing back on cancel culture.

By buying Roisin's album and Graham's book I'm not just supporting those individuals I'm giving two fingers to people who think they have a right to use the threat of cancellation to restrict the output of GC writers/artists.

If we can demonstrate CC is counterproductive it becomes a useless strategy and more people may start to speak out, and organisations less receptive to online bullying (because that's what it amounts to) when this threat is nullified.

Buying this book is simply another opportunity to get my spade out and grow some more veg.

And solipsistic. And anything but left-wing, by any reasonable standard. Hardly communautaire, with it's constant refrain of "Me, me, me".

Cosmosforbreakfast · 14/09/2023 17:49

Yes Graham made his choices, he chose to stand up for women, for women's rights and for the protection of our children. I appreciate what he's done and the sacrifices he's made.

Merrilydancing · 14/09/2023 18:06

Never bought a book on pre-order very excited to get this as I do like his writing style. And his support for women.

Also, touch grass.

I fear they may be seething and coping too much to touch grass.

Bagofcrisps · 14/09/2023 18:31

To those asking, Simon Edge said on twitter that any books ordered direct from the publishers will be signed.
I've just ordered from Eye Books, it didn't mentioned being signed, but I am hoping. Possibly will not be able to sign them all if thousands of people buy!??

teawamutu · 14/09/2023 09:23

James Acaster came across as a rude, arrogant prick on Taskmaster. Was prepared to consider it a comedy persona, then saw his spiel on Ricky Gervais and upgraded him to rude, arrogant, self-righteous prick.

Another RSOH 'thinker' who doesn't actually think because he's on the RSOH, therefore doesn't need to.

I watched that series of Taskmaster and absolutely hated it because of Acaster. Even if it was his 'persona', he was so rude to Alex and every time he came onscreen, it set my teeth on edge.

Waitwhat23 · 14/09/2023 18:37

And yes, I'll be preordering this book!

Brefugee · 14/09/2023 18:45

i think he does write very well, I'll be ordering it too

katmarie · 14/09/2023 18:48

Does anyone else see this when viewing the tweet on X? 'Potentially sensitive content'?! It's a picture of the book cover...

Very much enjoying Willoughby's rage on the RA quote, which comes with a helpful round up of other celebrities who have been brave enough to speak for sense and science

IW tells the story on X how a friend went to a dinner party and reported back that people talked about men in womens sports. Therefore IW concluded that this is middle class prejudice against transwomen.

But of course, IW has blocked half the world on twitter and does not allow replies to xeets so IW is blissfully unaware that everyone is talking about this now.

IcakethereforeIam · 14/09/2023 19:00

Just preordered from the publisher 😁 My birthday's in early October, so it's a late and early present to myself. If it's signed, awesome, if it isn't, it's no big deal.

SueVineer · 14/09/2023 19:01

WorriedMutha · 14/09/2023 16:23

I'm thinking of buying direct from the publisher but it doesn't say that it will be signed. Is that announced elsewhere?

It was on Twitter from the publisher and he posted a link

DialSquare · 14/09/2023 19:02

Streisand Effect strikes again as looking at the comments on that article, loads of readers will be buying the book!

CorruptedCauldron · 14/09/2023 19:03

The postage is free from the publisher. So there’s no real benefit from using Amazon.
