Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

As a longtime admirer of Glinner I'll be preordering this today. And I'm overjoyed to see Richard Ayoade has nailed his colours to the mast, it's really good to see someone my own age and who is a bit geeky who hasn't been utterly captured, I was really disappointed when I saw James Acaster making pro-TRA comments and I know they're often on the same shows.

LunaNorth · 14/09/2023 09:16

Pre-ordered. Looking forward to this.

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 14/09/2023 09:17

Hopefully the incredible work by people like Glinner, Maya Forstater et al has put us in a position where telling the truth (or even openly approving of someone else who tells the truth) isn't immediate career suicide for TV personalities the way it would have been 2 years ago.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/09/2023 09:18

Definitely buying it! Loving that RA quote - yeah he knows & im sure he knows the likely reaction he’ll get as well. JR was monstered on twitter for being GC & after being “educated” by his daughters withdrew from the fight. Looks like he’s back!

CorylusAgain · 14/09/2023 09:21

Given that RA has read the book he will be under no illusion as to the way some will react!

James Acaster came across as a rude, arrogant prick on Taskmaster. Was prepared to consider it a comedy persona, then saw his spiel on Ricky Gervais and upgraded him to rude, arrogant, self-righteous prick.

Another RSOH 'thinker' who doesn't actually think because he's on the RSOH, therefore doesn't need to.

Carouselfish · 14/09/2023 09:23

Ordered from Waterstones.

dimorphism · 14/09/2023 09:24

I don't know of course but I always got the sense RA was quite intelligent.

Anyone with half a brain cell to rub together realises that this anti-science anti-reality movement is going to be called out at some point and people will look back at past statements about women having penises (etc) and judge people on their intelligence levels, inability to stand up to totalitarian diktat and willingness to harm women and children. The attempts at mass delusion and totalitarian control of thought and speech can't persist forever.

The binary nature of sex in mammals is millions of years old, it's not some passing trend. It's like a movement that denies gravity exists if you decide you don't believe in it and forces people to act like they're all really floating around and that things that drop to the ground when you let them go don't really do that.

I suspect RA has realised that the turning point is coming and has decided now is the time to speak up.

There'll he a statue of him built when this war is won.

Let’s hope it’s within his lifetime (and mine!)

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 14/09/2023 09:28

Just pre-ordered (while listening to Róisín Murphy).

RA is an intelligent man, he'll have known what he was getting into.

On the subject of intelligent, science-driven men, I'm rapidly losing respect for Dara O'Briain.

I lost respect for him a long long time ago. He is nearly worse than many of the others in that he is highly intelligent but like Graham "there's no such thing as cancel culture it's just accountability" Norton he knows what side his bread is buttered on (Beeb) and he's just playing it safe to keep his career.

Yup. It's a real shame.

Illegallyblonder · 14/09/2023 09:35

I will buy this too.

PotteringPondering · 14/09/2023 06:09

Twitter/X now full of spluttering people exploding with fury at Richard Ayoade because of his cover endorsement of the book.

Well done that man. He's absolutely right: Linehan is a brilliant screenwriter.

Richard Ayoade is my (not very) secret crush and I am soo pleased he supports GL. Handsome, talented and a man of integrity 😊

IcakethereforeIam · 14/09/2023 09:45

I'm gonna buy the hardback! I don't know whether to pre-order from Amazon or Waterstones or wait to see if the local bookshop gets it in.

As a pp suggested @Glinner what do you advise?

And kudos to the guys who put their names on the cover.

WinterTrees · 14/09/2023 09:51

I think Richard A will be very aware of the reaction he will get, but like others have said, he's very intelligent and I get the impression he's not afraid of going against the prevailing trend, and that's actually part of who he is. He seems to be someone who has strong core values, and doesn't suffer fools.

His quote is focused on GL's writing, so he's not aligning himself with any particular views. I admire him for being able to take that benign, neutral stance. This whole issue would have been an awful lot less of a shitshow if the media and celebrities had been capable of this kind of nuanced thought instead of reaching for the pitchforks and leaping like lemmings of the latest performance virtue cliff.

Villagetoraiseachild · 14/09/2023 09:54

Whilst waiting for the statue in the public square, a tall green Glinner gnome in the garden would be a superb terfy totem....
I will be getting this book, well done that man @Glinner.

risefromyourgrave · 14/09/2023 09:56

It’s a good job that Richard Ayoade doesn’t do Travel Man anymore. Imagine all the right on lefty comedians trying to justify working with him while desperately wanting the money the job would pay them!

yep! Mr science who’s married to a surgeon ffs - but too much of a coward to say biological sex matters

Yes thinking is definitely not happening for a lot of comedians. It's a shame because half of them just do partisan political rants now instead of actual comedy and they're still being billed as comedians. It's like I've bought tickets to sit in the sixth form common room.

I remain hopeful that the tide will turn, we'll see the second coming of Glinner as a scriptwriter, and comedy (maysherestinpeace) will actually be good again in the future.

beastlyslumber · 14/09/2023 10:01

Lovely news from Glinner. I'm thinking pre-order from Waterstones? Or maybe Amazon? Will wait for advice!

whosaidthatnowplease · 14/09/2023 10:02

Looks like this book is published by eye books (Simon Edge) have just ordered direct from there, free postage!

XenaEcoWarriorPrincess · 14/09/2023 10:09

Ohhh so excited for this. Might fill the comedy hole that I've been walking around with since the IT crowd finished. I'm hoping a television series will follow and Father Ted the musical.

Usually buy Kindle but am toying with the idea of having a hardback copy so I can lend it out to people. Only problem is most of my twaw have disowned me after screaming 'wrong body' 'most vulnerable ' at me whilst being seriously unread on the subject.

Oh and cannot wait to say 'Good luck with the book' in increasingly awkward manner for any book signing.

Such a talented man and so rare to see someone who sticks to their principles. I also like the fact that he says it how it is. We are partly in this mess because of nicey nicey 'they go low, we go high attitudes'. Sometimes a bit of bite is needed.

Will have to wait to payday to order. Too long!

IslandAngle · 14/09/2023 10:16

Ordered as a present, then I’ll order again for me for my Kindle. Go @glinner
