Tough Crowd, due out 12 October. I’m delighted to see this. He is such a good writer and has sacrificed so much in defence of women’s rights and reality itself. Hope it’s a smash hit.

Just bought the hard copy. It's sitting at #1 right now, great to see it!

Been a good week for Irish GC folks with Roisín and now Graham.

Sexnotgender · 15/09/2023 12:49

Just ordered my copy direct from the publisher, order #8570

Signed copy ordered! (I subscribe to his Substack.) Will buy several for Xmas presents too. Great stuff!

Owen must regret ever taking the original photo of whatever book he was reading at the time!

I imagine Talcum is salty that his last book This Land (a sustained self-pitying rant absolving himself of all responsibility for Labour's catastrophic course in 2015 - 19 and suggesting that the British Working Classes are too thick to make up their own minds and simply do whatever The Sun, which hardly anyone reads anymore, tells them what to do) sold about 5 copies.

Just ordered from the publisher, looking forward to reading this!

My order number is #8567

I didn't realise Graham had a cameo in the I.T. Crowd.

At just before 2mins50 Graham gets to scream "We're all gonna to die!"

Quite a poignant episode given the context!

EmpressGrey2 · 15/09/2023 13:14

Thanks @VicSynix I've done likewise. I'm also LibrariesWest and have become a keen user of the mobile library since moving to near Bristol. Might also buy a copy as I think it's so important to support authors and publishers (congrats Eye Books) who resist this authoritarian movement. I'll ask for it in a bookshop though as I did with Helen Joyce's Trans. I left the Society of Authors over this issue and feel deeply uncomfortable with the state of the publishing industry. Just today there's an article about the OUP cancelling a philosopher's book because of wrongthink. I have a book proposal in at the moment that's pertinent to biological women. I'm wondering whether I might be 'encouraged' to include transwomen. The answer is a big fat no. Congratulations @Glinner After all your losses this new book heralds a public return to the brilliant writer that you are.

Not sure it's very wise to give your actual order number on here. We know there are lunatics who would love to be able to link real life names with MN usernames...

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/09/2023 13:32

I ordered from Eye earlier today - the order numbers are going steadily upwards it seems.
So does Amazon show how many sales there are per book in its top 100? I saw it’s at #2.

It says it's at No1 now on Amazon!

Do we think there's any likelihood of an in-person signing event, like at the big Waterstones in Piccadilly? I would love to say thank you in person. And ask for a special message for the copy I'll be buying for the EDI bookshelf at work.

MavisMcMinty · 15/09/2023 13:47

Good question @Beowulfa - they’d need to arrange and pay for security, which might outweigh any sales benefit for them.

serialgrannie · 15/09/2023 14:07

Long-time lurking feminist old person here. I have followed these discussions since the JKR debacle and been appalled at the vitriol and hatred heaped upon (mostly) women for simply refusing to accept fiction as fact, for defending women rights and for highlighting the obvious dangers of allowing children to be caught up in all this madness. I have just ordered the Kindle version of Graham's book - really looking forward to it. My local Waterstones is very woke - I will insist on seeing his book displayed prominently when it tops the best-sellers list.

I would love an opportunity to thank him in person but I can't see him doing public signings. He's too much of a target for some absolute crazies. Terrible times we live in when a man standing up for women could get physically hurt or worse.

TheSingingBean · 15/09/2023 14:20

I've ordered from Amazon. I NEVER buy hardback books but this is an exception. I'm so grateful to Graham for his support of women and girls, so sorry for what he has lost and so full of respect for everything that he's done.

Sexnotgender · 15/09/2023 14:36

Number 1 in a few categories now.

Ordered. I'm in the 86## s.

DH and I are both Father Ted/Black Books/IT Crowd fans (so is DD(16), but she is in the "be kind" brigade).

I've ordered from the publisher once I saw it was free postage. I was in the #83..s at 7:30am.

I rather like the way Glinner's book is bookended by "the Last Devil to Die" and "Fearless". It seems very apt.

Should it grace the shelves of booksellers in a month's time I can imagine that quite a few people will buy it as a Christmas gift (oblivious to the trans fury).

If I were Glinners I would be tempted to 'write" a "Sister Tedwina: The Musical" featuring 3 trans nuns who find themselves sent to a small nunnery(?) off the coast of Ireland.

Can't seem to pre order from Waterstones - won't Recognise my Irish phone number. And I won't buy from Amazon. But I will visit the nearest independent bookshop. Hope they're not captured!

I preordered ok from Waterstones, so not captured (or at least not yet).

IcakethereforeIam · 15/09/2023 15:50

I've just got back from a quick shop at a bog standard Tesco Extra. They had a couple of those cardboard display stands, one near the books, one by the tills, for Richard Osman's latest opus. I know I'm probably dreaming but I would love to see the shenanigans that would happen when, in a few weeks, they're replaced with 'Tough Crowd' and Glinner's face is everywhere. In reality, I wonder if they'll be hidden or just wrapped in brown paper.

inkjet · 15/09/2023 16:37

I know it won’t happen but I would love there to be Waterstones events and/or book signings, just to witness the fury of the blue-haired members of staff.
