MAFS - first transgender bride.

Is this really fair on the groom who has gone onto the show to meet a woman and is matched with a TW without his knowledge until after the ceremony?

I know some will say it’s only a reality tv show but surely if the groom thinks he’s being matched with a woman, this is wrong.

MAFS UK's transgender bride kept her past hidden until after wedding

It's the Channel 4 programme where singletons don't meet their spouse-to-be until they are at the altar.

And Ella saying it’s about educating men - it really isn’t.
The word “education” used to be such a benign and usually positive word.
These days it’s beginning to sound fairly sinister.

You can 'educate' men all you like. They may still want to have biological children the old fashioned way and dislike artificial boobs and not particularly want to deal with penises or daily neovagina stretching.

This is not transphobic.

Has nobody read the article?

“However, the broadcaster has now admitted that they did tell the man in advance of filming, meaning that the organisation has duped their viewers.”

The issue isn’t that the groom didn’t know, it’s that he did know and they had him pretend he didn’t for the drama.

Have you read the thread where this is discussed and explained?

Have you not read the thread where it’s been mentioned several times that the article has been updated to include those comments whereas it originally said the groom didn’t know until after the ceremony?

Yes we’ve all read the original article and the two subsequent updates

They had to tell him because they know it's likely to be a big deal, but then they pretend there's no need to have told him because it's not a big deal. And those of us watching it are supposed to think it's not a big deal.

It's gaslighting and brainwashing.

TarquinOliverNimrod · 13/09/2023 21:28

@TinselAngel omg yes 😮

There is a sentence in the article itself that refers to a previous version of the article where the understanding was the man was duped.

It's gaslighting and brainwashing.

And of course when it happens to married women, its not a big deal either.

Except of course it is. And everyone deep down knows it is. But don't want to say it.

DoItAgainPlz · 13/09/2023 21:35

Of course none of us have yet seen the man who will be paired with this person with the large wrists and fake bosoms.

In my mind's eye I'm picturing a 6'5" Jack the Lad from Essex with a love for sunbeds, white teeth and tattoos.

The reality might be that the man is a colourful beardy bloke from Bristol who is prepared to both live and die by the TWAW sword.

How the fuck did I get to this age without knowing that?!

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/09/2023 21:39

I'll reserve judgement until I know for certain whether or not the groom was prepared/forewarned of it.

I'm as gender critical as they come but I do know that there are men who are happy to have relationships with trans women. That's fine afaic.

If the groom had no clue and was duped then that will be unethical on a massive scale.

It’s not something they advertise for very obvious reasons…..

Myalternate · 13/09/2023 21:42

Do the participants get paid?

Is it a one-off show or shown over several episodes so that the audience get to learn more about the characters?

But a Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed to the MailOnline that 'the groom was told that the match found for him was a trans woman'.

The Mail article has been changed quite significantly since it was first published. It’s a great big hoax on the viewers, the “shock” when he was told is just acting.

How low can TV go?

Not sure about getting paid - presumably they have expenses of some sort. The show goes on for about 2-3 months so there’s a lot to learn as it goes along.

Channel 4 is a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the state-owned Channel Four Television Corporation. It is publicly owned but, unlike the BBC, it receives no public funding and is instead funded entirely by its own commercial activities, including publicity.

Rudderneck · 13/09/2023 21:49

I kind of think the whole thing is unethical to start with. Enough so that I don't real feel that this makes it more unethical, IYKWIM.

Myalternate · 13/09/2023 21:49

2 to 3 months!
Is that to give the cast time to get to know each other? 😂

They're not gaslighting anyone, it's a fecking reality TV drama which anyone with half a brain cell knows is highly contrived. Artificial plot twists are not gaslighting.

Of course it's gaslighting - it's social gaslighting. It's about erasing boundaries, convincing the viewer that they have to accept someone as the sex they're not, even when intimacy is involved.

Of course they are. It’s not an episode of Midsomer Murders, it’s a reality show.

Gaslighting is serious psychological abuse.

It is not the same as a shit TV show confecting drama by withholding information. Calling this gaslighting cheapens the meaning of the word.
