'The Labour councillor was slammed by community groups for reposting or liking a series of tweets supporting the anti-trans TERF movement, which is spearheaded by controversial figures such as JK Rowling and Julie Bindel. The councillor said in her apology:
“I apologise unreservedly for endorsing these social media posts which contain anti-trans sentiments.
“I recognise that they are offensive to the transgender community and I am deeply sorry for the hurt caused by this.
“I am committed to undergoing training to better understand the lived experiences of transgender people and with the aim of becoming a good trans ally.”'

'Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council and Labour Group, Bella Sankey added: “We know that Brighton & Hove is a beacon city for trans, non-binary, gender queer and lesbian, gay and bisexual communities. People come to our city because we are known as a safe and inclusive city with a thriving diverse and intersectional population.
“As your Labour Council, we stand in solidarity with our trans, non-binary and intersex communities and are proud of our commitment for trans equality and we celebrate our city’s diversity.
“I want to reassure the trans community that any expressions of anti-trans sentiment in any form will not be tolerated.
“Councillor Thomson has now, rightly, apologised unreservedly for her actions. I have also taken the decision to remove Cllr Thomson from her lead role on City Centre Renewal, while further investigation is carried out and subject to her completing training.”'

The being sent for re-education is scary.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 12/09/2023 14:34

The only thing she's done wrong is apologise. No one should ever apologise for standing up for women and children's rights to safety and privacy.

Helleofabore · 12/09/2023 14:34

That read like a hostage statement.

‘A beacon city’

Wow

Sniffmyfingers · 12/09/2023 14:39

Phobic? Was there any evidence of a Phobia, which is an irrational fear, of men in frocks and knickers or women in boxer shorts and trousers? Or did he just simply not support the delusion?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 14:39

It's a penis shaped beacon, I reckon.

DS and DiL have just come back from a trip to Brighton. They said it's a shithole now from the evening onwards - the streets are scary and deeply disturbing, combining appalling levels of public poverty with incongruous luxury displays of queerness.

The only place they felt really comfortable was in a lesbian cocktail bar recommended by DD. ('Just mention my name ...')

I really don't think the Labour Council has anything to crow about. The cultural bubble isn't generating a healthy local economy for all.

hunger games GIF

Sounds like something out of The Hunger Games.

I was quite shocked by the homelessness and litter in the streets when I visited a few years back.

The Labour Council have removed a woman from her lead role because she supports women and children's rights to safety and privacy. They have nothing to crow about indeed but plenty to be deeply ashamed of.

It so did! Like something from the forced recantations during the era of Chairman Mao.

Yes, her apology reads like it's straight out of a dystopian novel!

BigPussyEnergy · 12/09/2023 15:17

Yup! I was getting 1984 vibes. She must have worded it like that on purpose. Nobody can read that without realising it’s a forced apology.

PriOn1 · 12/09/2023 15:31

Poor Alison.

A mistake to capitulate, of course, but I guess she felt it was better than resigning. She will probably learn eventually that she cannot function when doing so involves going against her conscience, every single day.

I know it should no longer be a surprise to see this kind of open coercion, but each time I see it, it’s a new reminder of the depths of the capture inside many public institutions.

MavisMcMinty · 12/09/2023 15:31

“I am committed to undergoing training to better understand the lived experiences of transgender people and with the aim of becoming a good trans ally.”

Sweet zombie Jeebus, that’s just horrible to read. Ugh.

Yes, that one is just brainwashing on speed.

She promises to be a good girl and only say and think the approved, correct thoughts and sentences.
What could possibly be creepy as fuck about that?

Info on the sinful tweets here:

'Among the posts highlighted by the resident was a quote which Cllr Thomson retweeted before she was announced as a candidate. It is attributed to Australian writer Germaine Greer, which read: “Just because you lop off your penis and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a woman. I could ask my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and then put on a brown coat but that won’t turn me into a f*ing cocker spaniel.”'

'Cllr Thomson also retweeted a post that used the hashtag #transwomenaremen and another which described trans women as “males who believe they are women”'

OP posts:
RavingStone · 12/09/2023 15:54

Sorry, I thought Labour wanted women's votes?

Also the irony of "community groups" in Brighton and Hove, the very place that is making it almost impossible for a rape victim to set up a community group for female rape survivors.

Utterly chilling. The Labour party is fucked with one or two brave exceptions.

StephanieSuperpowers · 12/09/2023 16:02

It's fascinating that they only care about compliance.
