'The Labour councillor was slammed by community groups for reposting or liking a series of tweets supporting the anti-trans TERF movement, which is spearheaded by controversial figures such as JK Rowling and Julie Bindel. The councillor said in her apology:
“I apologise unreservedly for endorsing these social media posts which contain anti-trans sentiments.
“I recognise that they are offensive to the transgender community and I am deeply sorry for the hurt caused by this.
“I am committed to undergoing training to better understand the lived experiences of transgender people and with the aim of becoming a good trans ally.”'

Do they think this is a good look for Labour? Saying out loud they will re-educate elected officials so they believe fantasy?
This is really how they want to be seen, and we are meant to vote for them to fix education and the economy? Wtf?

elgreco · 12/09/2023 17:19

Scary

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 17:21

Oh, I expect we will have another round of accusations, witch pricking, and calls for her expulsion, now. Look at what Rosie's had to go through.

I hope she is able to hold fast.

And at the wrong fucking time, with a general election sometime in the near future. It gets more lunatic by the day, and just as the tide of public opinion appears to be turning against the demands of the TRA/Es.

I just hope her apology was worded in a sarcastic manner, because otherwise (to me anyway) it’s actually obscene.

I got an email the other day inviting me to a 'fish and chip supper' (15 quid a head) with the local Labour Party Women's Forum (although I didn't think the LP had Forums any more, but maybe that news hasn't reached Lancashire) and local MP. So I just replied, linking to the Brighton story, and asking what they thought about it, and the broader issues. Mentioned Rosie Duffield too. Obv, I'll update on any response.

Boiledbeetle · 12/09/2023 19:10

She should have told them to fuck off!

And as for sending her for training... bloody hell!

how do you find the comments? i scrolled for about a decade but there were just daft ads for more clickbaity articles

duc748 · 12/09/2023 19:19

Yes, I found the same.

Dalriada35 · 12/09/2023 19:31

It’s bow & obey or be burned.

Dalriada35 · 12/09/2023 19:33

Same

Dalriada35 · 12/09/2023 19:34

It really is such a misogynist movement

Abhannmor · 12/09/2023 19:36

Can't read comments. Tories are going to lose the next election. But I wonder if Brighton and Hove will be an exception? Certainly seems badly run and has an unhinged zealot as Labour MP. Lucas not much better than Moyle so the Greens could lose out too.

Oh! They have been vanished. How very odd.

There were quite a few - maybe around 30 - and every single one was supportive of Cllr and complaining about genderism. Every one.

Maybe the Argus has disabled the comments on this article? I couldn't find them either but other articles still do have a comments section.

thanks - i wonder why they have vanished.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 20:19

The article is now paywalled.

It's in the archive, but with no comments, but the front page is showing 31 comments, so I'm not going mad. They've just deleted them all.

Attaching evidence of the Argus' gaslighting.

Worth a letter to the Argus, asking why they hid them?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 20:24

Comments open on the Argus facebook page, only 2 visible, both supportive of the Cllr.

That’s why they’ve vanished then. Pity no screenshot of them. It’s ridiculous the lengths media & politicians will go to suppress the debate on this.

TheirEminence · 12/09/2023 21:38

Disappearing comments … very poor. Wonder if it is possible to send the poor councillor a message of support, how humiliating to be dressed down like this by your own party!

WhyThatsDelightful · 12/09/2023 22:37

Published guidance from Brighton Hove City Council on how to respond to Cllr Thomson’s tweets.

Wow, disappearing comments. We need to take a screenshot next time. Comments are worthy of respect in a democratic society.

Clearly not in Labour run Brighton and Hove City Council. And these guys are lined up to run the country next year.

Time to leave.

The only thing she's done wrong is apologise. No one should ever apologise for standing up for women and children's rights to safety and privacy.

But it let's us know what Labour's stance is: women and children are of no account; LGBT shall be exalted above them all.
Training camps now; hard labour in the gulag next. Just wait till Labour and flip-'flop Starmer get in.
