Nursery have asked if my 4 month old is non binary.

Filling in paperwork for my son to start in the baby room in a few month’s time and the question is as follows:

Child Gender: Male / Female / Non binary

This is a form for children aged 3 months to 4 years.

I’ve asked my baby whether he feels comfortable in the sex he was born as but he declined to answer and then vomited on me…

Seriously though, should I challenge this? It seems absurd.

How would they intent to treat a non binary child differently? Do they treat male and female children differently?

gogomoto · 10/08/2023 16:15

There are parents (the vocal trendy kind who have public Instagram accounts) who bring their babies up non binary. Won't even tell the grandparents apparently. Yes it's bizarre but it's a crazy world out thereGrin

Mischance · 10/08/2023 16:17

he declined to answer and then vomited on me… - a child of very advanced intellect to come up with this appropriate reply!

elliejjtiny · 10/08/2023 16:18

That's absolute madness. I have heard of people who are raising their babies as non binary and allowing their toddlers to choose their gender though. At 4 my youngest identified as a smurf.

Hooplahooping · 10/08/2023 16:19

Ah yes the DM, the last remaining bastion of sanity in this wild world…

OP - I suspect they just had someone who read a book about gender neutral environments to stop stereotyping children too young and got it wrong. I wouldn’t read to much in to it…

PurBal · 10/08/2023 16:21

I had to answer if my son identified with the sex he was assigned at birth when I registered him at the GP. Online form and mandatory response was required, I couldn’t leave it blank or write anything it, just tick yes or no. He was less than a week old. Made me feel really uncomfortable.

FoodFann · 10/08/2023 16:22

I would speak to the manager about it, and ask what agenda they’re trying to push. And I’d flag to ofsted/the council too. A 4 month old, non-binary, I’ve heard it all. Please leave this is a google review to alert future parents to avoid this nursery.

momonpurpose · 10/08/2023 16:25

Honestly I would really look for another nursery

yummymctummy · 10/08/2023 16:25

I think were gonna see an awful lot of mental health issues in the next generation of children. I can't understand how this barking load of bollicks has got of the ground.

Beaverbridge · 10/08/2023 16:26

What is this madness now?!. A baby for goodness sake. I despair for the future with all this going on now. Then is it because I'm older??.

Helendegenerate · 10/08/2023 16:31

Just when you think you've seen and heard it all, along comes another load of twaddle. Waiting for the next shocker and I doubt it will be long.😕

MichonnesBBF · 10/08/2023 16:34

I work in a nursery and I would put my house on it being more than 1 parent that has complained about exclusivity. Going off recent equality and diversity training I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of question becomes main stream..
Changing nurseries would be futile (just remember the staff who are actually looking after and caring for your child are not the ones making those decisions)

6WeekCountdown · 10/08/2023 16:35

🤣 circle non-binary and roll with it, see what happens 😆 maybe it's just me who would find it hard to resist. They are batshit.

Just write that on the form!

SinnerBoy · 10/08/2023 16:40

Like an earlier poster, I'd cross out Gender and write: Sex: Male.

Helendegenerate · 10/08/2023 16:41

I can see it now ---

Tick as appropriate

Does your child identify as a

Giraffe
Racoon
Rattlesnake
House brick

etc. etc.

Ridiculous? Yes

Unlikely? Not as much as it used to be

😕

Brumbies · 10/08/2023 16:43

Tell them he's a kitten. Will they accommodate his litter tray?

Boiledbeetle · 10/08/2023 16:44

My poor mother if i was at nursery now.

How does your four year old identify?

"as a boiled beetle"

I was ahead of my time I think!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/08/2023 16:45

Do they ask for biological sex on the form? If so, I'd fill that bit it properly, then just put a line through the gender bit with "not applicable"

Onnonotagainhuh · 10/08/2023 16:53

Jumbojade · 10/08/2023 16:12

How did they manage that? Did they never change baby’s nappy in front of anyone, or have anyone to babysit?

I believe one of the Grannies babysat from a year old and found out then from nappy changes, and the other Granny still didn't know and was v upset.

JoodyBlue · 10/08/2023 16:54

I'm hoping a journalist worth their salt reads this thread. At 4 years mine were all over the dressing up box everyday, in every costume. If any one had told them or others or made an assumption on gender on that basis I would have been very very vocal about it. I feel strongly enough to call it abusive. These are children. I'm pretty angry reading this.

NotImpressedByYourBragging · 10/08/2023 16:55

Absolute lunacy!!

BCBird · 10/08/2023 16:56

Wtf. Bet nursery bowing to.woke BS

RunningUpThatBuilding · 10/08/2023 17:00

I strongly believe that sensible parents should push back against this nonsense otherwise it’s effectively “going along” with it.

Dread to think what will happen next if this type of thing continues unchallenged.

Marblessolveeverything · 10/08/2023 17:00

Well at 4 months they may not have decided but by 2 it probably will be dictator.

Using pronoun, the greatest, oh worshiped one.
