This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

So what IS Inspector Madden’s influence on this awful saga? Overseeing a force with much focus on one particular protected characteristic and not enough understanding of the others (especially disability)?

Spot on.
Isn't WYP Professional Standards Department supposed to be investigating how the cops behaved looking at bodycam footage and so on?

But yet Inspector Madden seems to think she has Divine Right to tweet in support of an officer who is the subject of an ongoing investigation?

Abuse of position in my book. Along with the February tweeting about the 14 year old girl in custody.

She is the Inspector in charge of the Custody Suite at Elland Road Leeds according to her Linkedin profile. Oh, with a background in Safeguarding I see.

Katie is also the co-chair of the West Yorkshire Police LGBT+ Staff Support Network, which supports colleagues within the organisation in relation to matters surrounding the LGBT+ community alongside being a critical friend to the organisation and senior leaders

Ah ok, so we could do something like....ensure lesbian, gay, trans officers continue to experience high levels of abuse...

There was no abuse towards the cop, in this case; you'd know that if you watched the video and read the mother's account.

The only abuse was from the Police officer, who gleefully stated that she didn't care that the victim was autistic and suffering from a spinal deformity.

She stood and watched smugly, as the girl had her arms twisted behind her back, even though spinal deformities make this extra painful. Her arms folded, a look of satisfaction on her face.

Add to that the near certainty that the arrest was not legal.

She's an insensitive, bullying sadist, who fully deserves every ounce of opprobrium heaped upon her head.

Are the police officers involved suspended or on office duties, do we know?

@suggestionsplease1
Since when is commenting to someone that they look like someone you know offensive?
She literally said "she looks like my lesbian nana".
If you're choosing to be offended by that, that says more about your opinion of lesbians surely. Why should you be offended? There's nothing wrong with being a lesbian.

And more importantly, why is context being ignored here?
The teen is autistic. The teen was drunk. The teen was brought home from attending a Pride Event. The teen was literally cowering in a corner, hitting herself.

SpicyMoth · 14/08/2023 23:43

Ew, could I have used the word "literally" any more times?
Apologies, I hope it's not contagious! 😷

Felix125 · 15/08/2023 06:55

MissLucyEyelesbarrow
So, my question is: why have they arrested a vulnerable 16 year old girl for something that a drunken bloke would never be arrested for?

They shouldn't have - and its not a standard to arrest in situations like this. You are correct in that we are called much worse.

In my opinion, the cops were wrong in this incident. She should have returned the 16 year old back home and walked away. Most teenagers we return home are not happy as they have been found, so will call you names etc.

what does that link to, @littleripper ?

It links to a BBC radio programme about steroid use in the Police.

That’s interesting. I wonder what happens when female POs take testosterone? I know that some F to M transitioners have been surprised and alarmed by how aggressive it can make them (as well as promoting a very strong libido).

thanks (as an aside: it's a good idea to explain what a link is - i won't ever click on a blank link, or any link if i can't see where it's going, and many others are the same)

I was starting to feel a sliver of sympathy till I saw this twitter exchange

The vilification of this officer is so incredibly distressing. Please, please publicly show her some ❤️ .

Inspector Madden replies:

Thank you for recognising that and showing support. It is a shame other leaders don't also call this out and show support too!

The woman has no self awareness and is certainly feeling no remorse. There is no way she should have posted this. She's an Inspector not a rookie.

Is this Inspector Madden the one who posted an account on twitter of her conversation with a 14 year old in a cell? Presumably the 14 year old involved in this?

Yes, but it wasn't the same teenager. That teenager was (ironically) a lesbian, and she used her to virtue signal.

99.9% of her twitter feed is LGBT+ stuff.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/08/2023 11:34

Thank you for the clarification.

I'm sure the 14 year old was thrilled she gave the police officer material for her tweets and validation by others - cos that's what 14 year olds are there for - to provide material for adults to use for their own benefit. 😑

IcakethereforeIam · 15/08/2023 11:44

Have you read the comments. It seems it definitely 'outs' the child. A missing girl was publicised. As the copper couldn't wait to rush to press and said when it happened it was easy to tie the two stories together!

LarkLane · 15/08/2023 12:48

From the article.
West Yorkshire Police shared a screenshot of the thread. A spokesman said: "The side of policing that people don't see."

Fucks sake.

What a sanctimonious, callous idiot!!! It would have been very easy to change details and wait a bit so it wasn't outing. She needs sacked. Bloody unbelievable.
