This just shows why all the identity-based "hate" type laws need to be scrapped. They're just something that can be weaponised by people like this police officer, or suggestionsplease1, to be used as cudgels against anyone they don't like the look of, or just if they have some sort of irrational chip on their shoulder.
If anyone actually is harrassed, that can be dealt with by all the normal harrassment laws that apply to everyone. Having extra special rules for special people just allows abusive people who can claim to be "special" to abuse others.
There is a small part of me that feels sorry for the police officer and what has been unleashed upon her. It was, however, of her own making.
I kind of agree. But if the officer didn't feel empowered/entitled to arrest someone for "hate", she wouldn't have got herself in this mess to start with. The "hate" stuff gave her a way to lash out, and enact her own hate. The laws are bad for everyone.
I can see very few situations where the "hate" stuff actually helps anyone suffering harrassment, and a squillion situations where they permit harrassment.
