This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

Dare I say it looks like Johnsons Storm grey which coincidentally I'm using to paint my office right now. Any suggestions for a feature wall shade?

That’ll be because we care about disabled teens getting manhandled by over zealous cops.

Not to mention being used as some kind of prop to enhance your career as Madden has done.
I hope that series of tweets is picked up by the wider media and questions are asked about that very unprofessional behaviour.

Rhino-hide pearly gunmetal?

You can get bet your bottom dollar thus police officer ensure this of conversation day in, day out. And maybe, it sounds like, she called it wrong this time after being at snapping point after snide abuse levelled at her most days of her working (and probably non working days) of her life

Then she is not fit for duty, especially not when dealing with vulnerable members of the public.

I'm looking at West Yorkshire Whitewash for the cupboard under my stairs.
What do you think?

RocketPanda · 14/08/2023 19:03

@LarkLane sounds like it goes splendidly well with Storm grey. Perhaps with some scatter cushions in tide turning blue perhaps?

Ah ok, so we could do something like....ensure lesbian, gay, trans officers continue to experience high levels of abuse, endure subsequent high levels of stress...and then vilify them when they (rarely) break down in the onslaught of this all, and call them not fit for duty and fire them all.

Now how could we possibly go about this 🤔🤔🤔. Hmm, well I guess we could dedicate a thread to vilifying one or two of them whenever a high profile cae comes up?

That would capture the public imagination, wouldn't it? We could spread some memes, encourage some more hostility towards them, make a clear association between the hostility avd their sexuality...hmmm, yes, that's whet normally works well when attempting to promote animosity towards a minority group..hmmm 🤔

Yeah! Let's do that! That should help lead to increased abuse from the public when LGBT officers attend, elevate stress levels, lead to an increase in breakdowns and then we can all say 'hooray, we all knew those LGBT officers weren't really fit for their jobs anyway!'

Tasteful. Tide Turning Blue sounds about right, and perhaps a dash of Rotten Rozzer Red?

yourhairiswinterfire · 14/08/2023 19:11

The dedication of pursuit to this particular incident on mumsnet FWR is certainly enlightening. It's one of the most popular threads for a while eh.

Police Being Cunts threads are always popular. Mainly because there's usually several developments, we're watching things unfold live so the threads stay bumped as new information comes in; there's the arrest, then the public outcry, then the police release a statement promising the woman or wrongthinker they've arrested is literally a witch ackshually and just wait before jumping to conclusions, then inevitably the charges are dropped.

Jenni Swayne (a disabled woman arrested for feminist stickering) got two threads, for example.

It's not just FWR either, majority of posters on the 2 threads on this incident in AIBU also think that the coppers acted like utter tossers towards a teenage girl cowering in a cupboard having a meltdown, HTH.

suggestionsplease1 · 14/08/2023 18:55

Yes and it's also very convenient that it's enabled all those memes as well, isn't it.

The memes are taking the piss out of the police officer enabling the Streisand Effect - by taking offence and trying to (potentially illegally) arrest an autistic teen who simply made a socially awkward observation (overheard, not directed AT the officer) the police officer has become internationally famous as the woman who seemingly thinks looking like a lesbian is such a bad thing that a disabled teen should be arrested for saying it.

The memes are schadenfreudic, not homophobic.

No one knows if Officer Lesbian Nana is homosexual or not, and I for one wouldn’t be at all upset if a random teenager made the same observation of me.

I mean, I’m quite young for nannaism but it’s possible to be a nan in your late 20s/early 30s 🤷‍♀️

TheClogLady · 14/08/2023 19:13

FWIW I personally think this thread is less busy than Anne Coombe’s in the girls changing rooms but maybe suggestions missed that one?

suggestionsplease1 · 14/08/2023 18:30

There's one for you

Get away with you.

I don't give a flying fuck what you think of me

I'm not homophobic.

You can choose to believe me or not.

No skin off my nose.

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 14/08/2023 19:18

@suggestionsplease1 has it been confirmed then that the police officer is a member of the LGBTQ community?

RocketPanda · 14/08/2023 19:20

Just ignore the attempts of this poster to insinuate things that are not there. Kinda like the other poster whos an expert in the law yet I don't actually believe them.

In all seriousness I do need an opinion on this throw. This round of chemo has left me feeling ever so cold and I kind of want to embrace being the mad old woman of the West and wear this and perhaps a headscarf. I already walk with a stick.

Gorgeous. Go for it. I prefer slightly stronger colours for myself but I love Avoca throws.

Only by suggestionsplease1 outing her. Some mate eh?

The rest of us have no idea, including the out lesbians on FWR.

While FWR rightly gets dug in on Police Being Cunts, it also likes Police Being Really Good. Who can forget

I think you've missed the part where using the label is often synonymous with abusive intent.

Please don't pretend to be ignorant of this. You will know that people often shout terms at people from minorities that they might use amongst themselves but which are intended to slur when used by others.

It might be one word in the street as the person from that minority walks past ...'P or H* or D' but make no mistake, that word is intended to insult and shame them. The person saying the word could turn round and say 'But you are one aren't you? And don't you call each other that? What's wrong with me saying it how it is? What's your problem?' Are you going to say those individuals who are on the receiving end of those words in that context are ashamed of their identity if they dislike that experience?

Snowypeaks · 14/08/2023 19:26

Lesbian is not a rude word. And it wasn't shouted at her.

RocketPanda · 14/08/2023 19:27

@Snowypeaks I prefer muted colours so I cam sneak up and scare the Americans. I have many cats, not all mine as they are usually rescues who require a bit more care for a bit, a few dogs and a temperamental donkey.

WhiteFire · 14/08/2023 19:28

There is a small part of me that feels sorry for the police officer and what has been unleashed upon her. It was, however, of her own making. Whatever happened before that point, was lost when she responded that she didn't care that the child was autistic.

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 14/08/2023 19:28

More like the poster made an assumption about the police officer based on her... looks?

Hopefully 6 coppers come and drag her out of her house and arresting for daring to assume such a thing.

Sorted, then.
