This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

Fuckin Sorry Police Force, there they go again.

Is lesbianNan the most famous non-famous woman in the UK right now?

I wonder how she feels about the Streisand Effect she created? She wanted to stop one drunk teen calling her a Lesbian Nana and now she’s internationally famous for looking like a Lesbian Nana!

Yet more police idiocy.

thankfully other police forces have a better understanding of working with autistic children. I’ve witnessed some first class police support over the years

Just wait, I am 100% sure that all 7 coppers who should, in my opinion be sacked will without doubt all be backed to the hilt by their superiors. This is absolutely inhumane treatment of an autistic child, where is the empathy, where is the understanding. This was not a crime, this all happened purely because the blond woman constable was so unprofessional and butt hurt and lost her temper. She just isn't fit to be a police officer, and as for the other coppers they should have refused to arrest the girl and de-escalated the situation. This was horrible and without doubt if I had been that girls father watching them manhandle her in that way, I would not have been able to resist coming to her aid and defending her. But they will all be wrongly exonerated.

No, what will happen is that they say that guidelines (not laws) were broken, that they expect better standards, and the officers will undertake training, and that'll be the only consequence.

There will be no recompense for the trauma they inflicted on the autistic girl, which will stay with her for her entire life, and no mention of the fact that (per the definition of the Public Order Act 2023) this was an unlawful arrest bookended by illegal behaviour from the officers on the scene which - were it carried out by anybody else - would have been grounds for a prison sentence.

Wow, over 10k responses to WYP's statement.

I'm not on Twitter so all I get is a peek.
But I can see that at 12:59 PM · Aug 10, 2023

There had been 2.1M Views and only 414 likes in relation to the WYP statement.
That's quite a message.

ArabeIIaScott · 11/08/2023 17:24

Well, I read a few of the 10k responses and none of them were in support of the police!

PylaSheight · 11/08/2023 17:29

Brefugee · 11/08/2023 09:26

Pack in.

There is NOTHING in that video to indicate anything other than an overwhelmed child.

If it takes 5 officers to handle that they are not fit for purpose and should be sacked.

I suspect the extra officers were called due to there being 2 other adults in the house (Mum and a male), and tensions were, understandably, running high. If Mum and male had kicked off then it would've been dangerous.

However, if the reports that all the teen did was say something a bit insensitive to the female PO are correct, then it was a total overreaction from the police and only served to escalate the situation. The teen should've been delivered safely to Mum, and any comments ignored. Just silly how thin skinned the female PO was if all she was asked is if she was a lesbian. It's not even homophobic is it, not even hateful. Just an observation.

It appears to have now been deleted

BreadInCaptivity · 11/08/2023 18:01

The statement is still there but they've cut off access to all the posts.

Cowards.

LarkLane · 11/08/2023 18:06

I hope my link works. Looks like they've deleted all the bit about the girl being drunk.
No further action.

No shit Sherlock!

SamW98 · 11/08/2023 18:08

No actual apology though.

Though I’m sure ‘lessons will be learnt’

LarkLane · 11/08/2023 18:13

It's a real none apology.
Utter gobshites. The person doing their social media isn't the sharpest tool in the box reading that. Own Goal 2.

Soubriquet · 11/08/2023 18:13

Says nothing about educating their staff either. They are gonna get away with it and hope with time people will forget

SamW98 · 11/08/2023 18:22

It’s a real ‘nothing to see here move along’ statement

And had it but been filmed and posted online we all know absolutely nothing would have been done and it would be brushed under the carpet

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 11/08/2023 18:29

At least hopefully this will stop the "there must be more to this nonsense". There isn't. There wasn't. Just a cop on a power trip weaponising her job/position against an autistic teenager. So fucking brave.

Clymene · 11/08/2023 18:31

I'd contribute to a crowdfunder to sue the fuckers.

Exactly this.

yourhairiswinterfire · 11/08/2023 18:33

No public apology for traumatizing a child in meltdown, pulling her by the arm when she has scoliosis, and putting out a humiliating statement painting her as a nasty homophobe?

Mousehoel · 11/08/2023 18:33

Clymene · 11/08/2023 18:31

I would too.

I feel overly invested in this and would love to think this case could make a real difference and finally be a catalyst for change within WYP.
