This shows the arrest of a teenage autistic girl by about 5 police officers. From what I can make out it is for a 'hate' crime. She apparently said a police officer was a Lesbian. Her Nan is a lesbian - that police officer is like my Nan.

I cannot comprehend the mindset of these officers.

That is a good likeness.

Gilmorehill · 10/08/2023 20:16

Has anyone read the statement given by WYP? They explain why the police came to be involved with this girl - she was found to be intoxicated and brought home. The public don't need to know that. It's an attempt to make a young girl look bad. It doesn't sound like a statement from an organisation that thinks they've made a massive mistake.

Hotflushesinthesunfun · 10/08/2023 20:21

The comments on WYP fb post are mostly appalled by both the video and the police statement. There are a few people saying there was obviously more to it, that her parents are to blame for letting her go out etc etc but they’re getting shouted down.

dcbc1234 · 10/08/2023 19:27

I've belatedly just watched some of the video. Please someone send it to the Home Secretary. What a waste of resources.

The Home Secretary champions heavy-handed policing, despite being a member of a government that has defunded the police far beyond the dreams of any balaclava-wearing agitator.

It’s a toss-up whether she’ll support them over this, obviously it would be a no-brainier if the girl was black. Either way, someone will get thrown under the bus if there’s the faintest sliver of political capital to be made from it.

This is the picture from SM that is allegedly the officer in question at Pride.

The likeness is apparent but I would say not totally conclusive.

And the woman next to her looks a lot like West Yorkshire's deputy mayor who 'oversees crime and policing in West Yorkshire', pictured in this article ArabellaScott linked to earlier.

Hate crime: West Yorkshire Police urged to improve report handling

West Yorkshire Police says more than 11,000 hate crimes were recorded in the past year.

Wow. Yes another strong likeness.

I am just making a suggestion as to what the offence was that she was arrested for - and how/why the officer has concluded that offence has been committed.

Actually what you are unwittingly doing is giving us insight into how the police think when things get out of hand and have to come up with something on the spot to justify their actions.

The police do this all the time. They get to a point where they should just walk away but they can’t risk losing face so just keep going with their arrest. They effectively say “you’re a little shit who’s bruised my/our ego so I’m going to use some soft language offence like an s5 to make your life hell for it” because they know the process is the punishment. Don’t back chat to the wrong copper because they’ll always find some sort of stick to beat you with. Felix is telling us which sticks.

Mousehoel · 10/08/2023 20:47

There's some suggestion on twitter that blonde cop was marching at pride in uniform

I joked earlier about the issue being misgendering of the blonde woman.
The more I read the more I’m thinking that she is a TM or NB, and the lesbian comment sent her into a triggered rage.
It really will not surprise me if this turns out to be the case.

Very good point. I did think when I read that statement that they were trying to smear her and make her sound like the 'baddie'.

The reality is that she is not a public servant and not held to the same standards as police.

That to me makes them look even worse. They knew she was vulnerable. They retrieved her and took her home because she was vulnerable. And then they treated her like that.

I agree. At what point did they stop seeing her as a vulnerable child?

When PC Poface spat her dummy out at being called the outrageous slur 'lesbian'

Clymene · 10/08/2023 20:53

Yes I thought that. They're implying she's out of control and that her mother is irresponsible. Shocking lack of any concern for her at all.

Vindictive and biased statement.

The whole force needs disbanding. They're rotten from the top to the bottom.

I said the cops were wrong for what they did.
I'm suggesting what the offence was that they arrested her for.

The referral to Social Services.

All missing children have a Public Protection Notice obtained for them. This is then sent to Social; Services - so they are aware that they have gone missing. If it becomes a pattern of being missing all the time, they can then get more involved with the family.

Yes, like I said, you’re telling us methods the police use to try and justify unjustifiable actions. One method is s5. Thank you for this insight into the police mind.

Completely agree. Surely it goes against policy to publicise why you've arrested someone across the whole of social media??

The video looks horrific but it is heavily edited presumably by the woman who is holding the camera while mouthing off at the police.

We don't know what happened prior to this. We have no clue why the person is being arrested. Something led to 6 police officers attending which suggests they are expecting violence.

Hopefully the investigation will get to the bottom of it.
