AIBU in thinking the special talk guidelines are out of date?

Post Forstater and in the current climate where the assault on women's rights is being discussed everywhere, AIBU to say the special FWR guidelines are no longer necessary?

MN no longer needs special rules to appease the activists who monitor the site, in order to maintain its ability to host the debate, when it is no longer the only site where the topic can be discussed.

I posted the something on the Trans Widows Escape Committee thread a couple of days ago, and it was deleted, it was my first ever deletion on that thread in 6 years. As an experiment I posted the same thing on Twitter and nobody batted an eyelid there.

Is it time we women of FWR, and in particular trans widows, were allowed to speak freely?

I think you are referring to me in that post. I think I, and another - who has since left the board altogether as a result of what followed ( a shame) - had an issue with the swearing and name calling. We were told we were 'tone policing' and it got very unpleasant.

Both of us left the thread but what I could see was that it then continued with lots of swearing written in huge bold black letters and lots of very annoying ( certainly for me) memes ( or whatever they are called - little highly repetitive videos of facial expressions and such) for page after page after page.

Personally have no issue with straight talk and plain language but find swearing and unnecessary aggression to be counterproductive. I appreciate some people might not find lots of swearing and name calling to be unecessary and counter-productive acts of aggression. I do.

I can assure you that the other poster was very much about shaming women for their response to the OP.

Personally, I find removing the genitals of gender non- conforming teenagers pretty homophobic.

I see the new plopper is making themselves known on a variety of threads.

Blimey, Elon. That’s amazing.

Slothtoes · 06/08/2023 09:20

That is amazing.. feel like this should be an FWR sticky

AutumnCrow · 06/08/2023 09:25

That is an extraordinary development from Elon Musk.

Menopausehaver · 06/08/2023 09:32

Who’d have thought , ten years ago that JKRowling would be a major women’s rights campaigner. And Elon Musk would be a major force for free speech. Some people really pull it out of the bag, when they really don’t have to care.

SunnyEgg · 06/08/2023 09:34

That’s great. So much of a battle comes down to funding the fight

Great stuff

The medical term is orchiectomy (not sure I've spelt that right).

‘Castration’ refers to male and female. It can be surgical or chemical.

’Orchiectomy’ only refers to male surgery.

I will never forget seeing a young detrans women lament her castration, performee in pursuit of the impossible (at the MCR detrans event in 2019).

Castration was the word she chose.

Wow. He really, really doesn't want this ideology claiming Twitter is transphobic, does he?

AutumnCrow · 06/08/2023 10:44

I imagine Musk is irritated by this guy, a man who doesn't see the irony of claiming Musk is doing all the things that he has been instrumental in enabling employers, corporations, foundations and charities to do - engage in censorship, especially of women. Yeah, Imran Ahmed, mirrors indeed.

I've got a fiver on Musk for the win. The litigation, if it happens, will shine a lot of light on what this guy and his organisation have been up to, and why.

That org sounds awfully like the ‘The Disinformation Project’ in NZ.

Which claims to be against disinformation whilst perpetrating misinformation!

Given the results of the survey that so many people didn't understand that a transwoman was born male, I think the argument about 'educating people' really has taken a different turn. It highlights the point about the lack of clear English, euphemisms and lack of proper consent.

I saw that story late last night on the Times or Telegraph website (too tired to remember!), @RedToothBrush and it’s now getting huge exposure in the Mail Online.

Very important development, I would say.

RedToothBrush · 07/08/2023 09:12

If you don't understand what a transwomen is how can you give consent to sharing facilities?

Politicians are firmly pulling the wool over eyes if they are trying to use the phrase transwomen are women. It's foul to say the least.

Helleofabore · 07/08/2023 09:27

I have now located the link to the MBM survey data if anyone is interested.

i will have a look at it later today.

Also, this story is in the Telegraph today. Woman who wanted single-sex care and wouldn't observe pronoun diktats wins apology from hospital for failing to respect her dignity. (Use archive . ph to read - drop in the URL - if you can't read it otherwise.)

It really does finally feel like the landscape is changing.

Hospital cancelled my surgery after I complained about transgender nurse

Teresa Steele developed an abscess after delays to operation following request for only biological women to provide her with intimate care

IcakethereforeIam · 07/08/2023 10:19

She's being very gracious

She alleges that she was the victim of discrimination and suffered direct harm because of The Princess Grace’s decision to cancel her operation but has said that she will waive any legal action if the hospital puts in place protections for other patients.

I hope she doesn't have to go ahead with legal action.

Also the transnurse 'inadvertently' entered her room Hmm. I hope so. The alternatives, he was metaphorically pissing on his territory or he'd been set up by his colleagues, aren't very nice.
