SPATH - Scottish government treatment protocol for trans care counter to Cass

This looks highly alarming.

https://twitter.com/CanSG_org/status/1686645272129011712

'FOI response has revealed that Chief Medical Officer@DrGregorSmith
has approved SPATH as Scotland's new treatment protocol. GPs will be able to prescribe hormones, & refer patients for surgery, without psychological assessment. This decision goes against@Hilary_Cass
recommendations'

These people not only pierced the hull of the ship, they really want to go down with the sinking ship.

This is pure ideology, as far distant from careful considered researched medicine as you can get.

Again the myth of suicide ideation is used as fake justification.

Did anyone believe that granting self rule to Scotland would have led to this?

Right now Health Secretary Steve Barclay needs to say something, and whatever the final Cass Report instructions are, they need to be imposed on Scotland.

And wait for Youssaf, Anwar and Harvie to bleat that Scots are being put in chains again by the English.

If this is really allowed to proceed, we have no right calling ourselves a civilised society with the welfare of children at the forefront. This is already at risk after Tory rule, but this is just wanton destruction.

Data on 'trans' surgery numbers

https://www.nss.nhs.scot/publications/foi-2023-000158-transgender-surgical-procedures/

Costs:

(£1.3 million this year to date, as far as the wee table seems to say, although this is only procedures outwith Scotland? It's not very freely given information, despite what they say.)

'Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act (FOISA) an organisation does not require to provide information if it does not hold that information. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not hold some of this information, such as gender-affirming care, medication and counselling/therapies. National Services Division (NSD) only cover the cost of surgery out with Scotland, the cost of which are detailed in the attached, Appendix 1 – Gender Reassignment Costs.'

Recipe for disaster. Please tell me the SNP are on track to be wiped out at the next General Election and Scottish Parliament election.

This certainly isn't going to help them if it is brought to enough parents' attention. Or even just to the attention of people who care about other people's children. Surely there must be some way the UK Government can stop them harming Scottish children like this?

Ditto Welsh children and heaven help all Uk children if Starmer becomes PM.

They all swarm together don’t they. Getting paid for this sort of work

so sad to see these numbers. Young people

Those appear to be the only three WPATH members in Scotland at the moment, according to the WPATH website.

I suppose Scottish GPs could refuse to prescribe. I know I would and move to England if necessary.

MavisMcMinty · 02/08/2023 14:32

Hopefully Scotsman Andrew Neil will be on this as part of his awakening. I’d love to see him interviewing the proponents of this outrage.

Hoardasurass · 02/08/2023 14:44

Wtf is wrong with my country and how do we stop this crap from being implemented

ResisterRex · 02/08/2023 15:03

Health is devolved isn't it? So what can Steve Barclay do? Unless there's something we haven't seen that could be in S35 territory or similar, it's hard to see what the UK government can legally or practically do, to stop this.

ArabeIIaScott · 02/08/2023 15:06

Right. Up to us, then.

And the press. The press is usually the only part that exposes things like this. It's a shame it's summer as questions can't be raised in Parliament or Holyrood for a while.

I think we're at Peak Trans. I wondered even 12 months ago when that would happen. And the start of the start I believe was Lia Thomas. Not even the NZ weightlifter at the Olympics provoked the same outrage.

But even with Lia, it was touch and go whether this story would light the fuse. In the end, I believe it did, because the litany of pro Lia "trans human rights" articles smacked of overreaching and desperation. And subsequently, every further man in women's sport has had shorter and shorter shrift, eg Austin Killips. And now FINA, UCI, IOC have all spoken.

Then Cass Report on Tavistock GIDS and Hannah Barnes book, as excoriating as it gets.

Then Adam Bryson and the huge humiliation for the SNP. Then thru the flotsam and jetsam of Dylan Mulvaney, Nike, Bud Light, Target, Mika Minio breastfeeding, and now Costa.
The froth and churn is just super visible, super loud, and super disorienting.

But to my mind, what was a smooth culture grab for a decade into 2022, is now a thrashing beast in 2023, as the trans radicals know the gig is up, they have to try harder. They can't talk or communicate or convince. They have to coerce, dominate, force.

Well, they did prior to 2022 and Lia Thomas. But they can't anymore.

And I see this SPATH story as further evidence. Now a trans pathway isn't enough. Medicalisation and surgery now without psych assessment.

GPs not specialists to dole out puberty blockers and cross sex hormones.

Radical surgery as a first resort, not last.

(so-called) Suicide ideation risk predominates all clinical decision-making.

This is pure politics, trans lobbying outcomes, and totally the opposite of the "first, do no harm" ethos.

It's disgusting and unacceptable.

But I also see it as the trans mantra last throw of the dice.

Because we'll now be privy to witnessing the ultimate endgame for the trans lobby. A country and its healthcare system totally captured by their ideology.

I believe this and other recent events are the jumping the shark moment of the trans lobby. The pushback will be furious leading with the proud mothers of Scotland. And even further isolation of the main parties in England incl Labour.

In the darkest days, there's light ahead.

littlbrowndog · 02/08/2023 15:40

But GPS are not trained for this

how could they prescribe puberty blockers which are untested for children ?

rogdmum · 02/08/2023 15:43

If anyone wants to email the project team to express concerns and/or ask what happened to the 12 week consultation which is supposed to be underway right now, this is the email address:

  • Senior clinicians or psychiatrists treating a patient’s complex mental health problems barred from involvement in assessing readiness for surgery.
The whole thing is chilling but the above is like wtaf why why are they doing this. Who in Scotland is pushing this
