Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer

Given Labour's appearance of a tenative attempt to U turn on the gender and trans debate ( although I have significant supicion about their motives, beliefs, and their actions when they win ), will Starmer have to rollback on his statement "Not right to say only women have a cervix" given he recently said women are adult human females. The two statment contradict each other, only one can be true.

I worry that Starmer's solution is that males can change sex and become female, destroying single sex spaces. He's just not saying this out loud.

Labour conference: Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer

The Labour leader calls for "mature, respectful debate" over trans rights after MP's comments.

I don't know if Starmer knows what a cervix is.

And I was delighted to hear his comments this morning, only to realise that I have no idea what he means by female. If it's the same as his 'inclusive' use of woman, we're no further forward.

Except that even if he is weaselling around with words, it's undeniable that this statement has been taken as a step towards GC ideas rather than trans ideology.

HagoftheNorth · 27/07/2023 12:31

Yep, that’s my interpretation, women are adult females, and females are anyone who says they are. Have you noticed how quickly a certain group of men expanded from claiming ‘women’ to claiming ‘female’?

Sorry Kier, I won’t believe you support women you make that crystal clear - you have too much history of supporting men in women’s spaces. Oh, and apologise to Rosie Duffield

Tinysoxx · 27/07/2023 12:33

Most people don’t know what a cervix is. Including Keir Starmer. Embarrassing comment which shows he doesn’t know as much biology as he thinks he does.

CaptainWarbeck · 27/07/2023 12:43

Someone needs to interview him and clarify exactly what he means by what he's saying now.

zanahoria · 27/07/2023 12:51

Will he announce that all women short lists are only for 'biological women'. ?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 27/07/2023 12:52

The level of ignorance about women's bodies from male politicians is embarrassing. Starmer and Lammy evidently don't know what the cervix is or what it does in a woman's body - which makes it even more ludicrous when they lecture us about them.
Yet another example of how politicians become utter fools when they start pronouncing on how men can magically become women .

Yeah, but as it's parliamentary recess there is not much serious interviewing going on. Coincidence?

Chersfrozenface · 27/07/2023 13:13

Well, if he does know what a cervix is, he could be referring to transmen and NBs...

Given all the contortions the NHS and charities go through when discussing cervical smears / cancer to avoid using "woman/women", I wouldn't be surprised.

He could very well hold that a certain kind of men and non-binary people have cervices (that'll be the actually female kind).

Signalbox · 27/07/2023 13:14

Starmer has finally defined woman as an "adult females" but he hasn't gone so far as to defining "female". So it really all depends on how he is defining the word female. Also I imagine ultimately it depends on how the law defines the word female (because this will end up in court eventually).

Activists have been attempting to claim the word female for some time. I suspect this will become their focus now that Labour have tweaked their position to "women are female"

Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer

Questions for Starmer:

  1. You recently stated it was wrong to say that only women have a cervix. Do you still stand by that?
  2. You now say a woman is an adult female. Does your definition of female include males who identify as females?
  3. What is a safe space? Is it the same as a single-sex space?
  4. Will you apologise to Rosie Duffield for failing to protect her from a torrent of abuse over her gender-critical views, despite the fact her beliefs are worthy of respect in a democratic society?
  5. Will you step back from Stonewall and stop it influencing policy?
  6. Will you keep gender ideology out of the classroom, ensuring no child is ever told they might have been born in the wrong body?

That’s just for starters.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/07/2023 13:29

I thought by the title that he had already reverse ferreted on what he said yesterday about women being an adult female/the "safe spaces" pledge. Which wouldn't have surprised me in the least, which shows how much I trust them.

Froodwithatowel · 27/07/2023 13:33

I love this thing about looking you straight in the eye and telling you a lot of bollocks, with the aim of leaving you too gobsmacked to fight back.

'I am an adult human female'

No love. You're not. And I'm not playing along with that now or ever, and you've taken it now past the point where I can be polite about it. So this is being really blunt. You are male. You will always be male. Women need spaces away from all men, and that does include you, however you feel about it and whatever you do to your body. They cannot be sacrificed to your identity choices.

excellent questions, I hope a journalist will ask these.

I think basically Labour HQ have watched the car crash Beth Rigby interview and are now trying to avoid the same situation.
I hope journalists have watched it and have seen a lesson in how to make politicians squirm and sweat.

popebishop · 27/07/2023 13:40

Anyone else find it hilarious that IW and Robin Moira White now define transwomen as "female people who are women"?

Please, do go ahead and put that definition into law.

Robin is dishonest when Robin pretends not to understand what anyone means by female. It's not postmodern, it's not clever, it's lying.

anon1888 · 27/07/2023 13:40

I assumed him saying not only women have a cervix was about trans men. So they obviously identify as men but still have a cervix.

Not that I believe he actually believes anything he is saying, he just wants the votes.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 27/07/2023 13:41

can we get Bath Rigby to interview him?

I feel it might drive some much needed clarity

(and be hugely entertaining)

Sorry slightly off topic but Joss Prior’s meltdown on Labour’s policy shift is a joy to behold.

At this point I wonder what 'cis women' are defined as, if male people are now 'female people who are women'.

There is a point beyond which this can no longer be taken seriously.

Joss should probably specify which two! Otherwise poor Angela (presumably) is at risk of an accidental egging.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/07/2023 13:47

I need more sleep Grin Joss wrote two faced, not two. So it would be fine. A bit unfair to top TRA Rayner though!

That point was the insistence that each sex matches a gender (and your gender is your sex, but your sex isn't your gender). This latest 'oh, female means a feeling now too, didn't you get the memo?' bollocks will help bring it all down faster.

Do carry on, please...

Chersfrozenface · 27/07/2023 13:55

So a female elephant is an elephant that feels female.

For instance.

Got it.

Wouldn’t want to rely on him to have my back in an argument.
He’d swap sides if it looked like it benefited him.
