I've had yet another account banned from all of Reddit for arguing against the trans propaganda. For comments made on the "Change My View" forum of all places.

Thinking about creating a new account to continue the argument but this censorship has got me so annoyed. Am I just wasting my time trying to convince strangers on social media?

Probably

PriOn1 · 12/07/2023 09:52

Do you enjoy doing it?

I was previously addicted to arguing on Twitter, but there were times when it stressed me out too much.

SoundTheSirens · 12/07/2023 10:02

Reddit is utterly captured. The GC sub-reddit was banned before any of the fricking rapeplay subs, FFS. They apparently have a large number of trans mods and some of their mods are “supermods” responsible for hundreds of subs each.

So I’d say yes, you’re wasting your time.

LonginesPrime · 12/07/2023 15:17

I like to keep in mind the advice that MNHQ always gives - don't give more of yourself emotionally to a thread than you can afford to spare.

I also think that whether you're wasting your time comes down to your own expectations around what you're hoping to achieve.

Are there more effective ways to advance women's rights than challenging people on Reddit? Probably. But realistically, are you going to be doing those things if you're not in Reddit or are you more likely to switch to a more open-minded platform where other people think more like you do anyway?

There is obviously benefit to debating the issues with people, and in keeping up to date with how the ideological messaging is evolving. But if you know your posts are being deleted and a debate isn't actually possible on Reddit, I wonder how much actual debate you expect to be able to engage in there.

PatatiPatatras · 12/07/2023 16:20

Unless you play along and eventually become a mod, to wreck havoc à la petty revenge, you are definitely wasting your humanity.

GreekDogRescue · 23/09/2023 19:56

Reddit is an absolute cesspit of misogyny.
I joined because I was in a cult called SGI for 30 years and there was a great sub called SGI whistleblowers.
But Reddit is addictive and it’s easy to get sucked into the other subs, and there lies the madness.
in the end I got banned and it was easier to delete the app.
It’s terrible how much time these sites take up.

Now, there's a thought.

are you wasting time... is your home tidy, are you excercising, eating well, seeing to your 'to-do' list... if any of these are a 'no', I'd suggest doing them first...

Circumferences · 23/09/2023 23:46

No... Arguing with American teenagers is not my idea of worthwhile time spending...

Well, you're no fun. Tidy homes are sòooooo yesterday! And plenty of people eat and argue online everyday! *wipes biscuit crumbs off face

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone else thinks the same as OP. No, it's not worth making another account to continue an online argument.

h1d1ng1npla1ns1ght · 24/09/2023 01:32

Fourth wave women is a subreddit that leans gender critical. It’s become more and more so recently. Anti porn, anti trafficking, anti surrogacy. Less vocal on trans issues but they are there.

lordloveadog · 26/09/2023 19:03

My DS was finally and permanently brought round to GC viewpoint by the banning of the GC board. So I'd say that kids seeing this going on is very helpful.

PorcelinaV · 26/09/2023 19:26

I think it's a waste of time to try to "convince" people that you discuss with, but of course it can still be useful to test the strength of arguments, come across new arguments, and debate may sometimes influence a more neutral audience.

Reddit however is so heavily moderated, it's not a fair environment for debate.

SweetHomeAlabaster · 05/10/2023 17:01

Not sure if she's serious about suing Reddit but I'm curious to see how her experiment goes, might join in:

https://twitter.com/sappholives83/status/1709513468309622963

I’m starting an experiment. Reddit allows trans only subreddits, which means it should allow women-only subreddits as well - so I’ve created one:

r/RealLesbiansRealWomen (straight women are more than welcome; I just suck at naming things).

The idea is to see how long it takes Reddit to ban it, then sue for discrimination. In the meantime, feel free to post memes or discuss whatever’s on your mind, gender woo included. No censorship, other than no men and no calls for violence; women of all backgrounds, races, religions, and political opinions are welcome.

This is very interesting. It will be taken down for hate speech so I wonder if she will actually sue.

PatatiPatatras · 06/10/2023 08:50

It's coming up as "unreviewed content" so it is already somewhat censored compared to the other haunts.

Stephannee · 06/10/2023 11:26

SweetHomeAlabaster · 26/09/2023 17:43

I see they banned any and all discussion of trans topics, on both sides, so .. problem solved, I guess?

This looks specific to that one subreddit, not the entirety of reddit.

They gave reasoning for it, the sub is called "change my view" yet despite the number of posts on the matter noone's view seemed to actually change.

I did a quick search and there are many threads all over reddit where people post about sightings of anti-trans stickers to take them down and try to identify the culprits.

Reddit doesn't allow subs to be created to serve the purpose of previously banned subs, your new sub looks suspiciously like a clone of what r/gendercritical used to be complete with transphobic and hateful memes. I took an archive of this thread as proof it's just another r/gendercritical.

As for suing you might want to be aware websites aren't a democracy. You don't get to "sue" because they do things a way you don't like.

I know it can be discussed on other subreddits but the OP was talking about just that one. Anyway looks like r/changemytransview has taken up the challenge of moderating this sort of discussion so I suppose she could argue there instead!

It's not my subreddit, I'm just quoting a tweet. It's been nice to comment there though, while it lasts.

Yes it was a shame Reddit banned so many of the feminist subs, but, it turned out well in the end as Ovarit rose from the ashes. No more having to put up with the misogynist Reddit admins and users any longer, communities run by women for women, it's just what was needed.

Stephannee · 06/10/2023 12:40

Well it's now been reported to Reddit on the grounds it was created to replace a previously banned sub (GenderCritical).

Good to see you participating in the experiment, that's the spirit!

But also, you can't actually stop women speaking out, you know. All these attempts at censorship end up having the opposite effect.

Speaking out? According to Reddit GenderCritical was banned for "promoting hate."

Anyway it appears gender critical activists can be male too, a male was spotted placing anti-trans stickers:
