Tunnocks

I have seen it quoted on here for many years that Tunnocks are to be supported as they support women's rights. I have looked on their website and social media and can see nothing to support this rumour. Does anyone have any evidence? Thanks.

I am packing for our Mumsnet trip to Uddingston (well actually I'm finding empty bags and cases because I may pick up a few souvenirs)

@Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis do you live in my house? I am 3 hours and 25 minutes from Uddingston not counting a long pause in Tebay services. (Checks under kitchen table nervously)

Tunnocks awayyyyy! (They may take our David Tennant but they'll never take our Tunnocks)

SidewaysOtter · 12/07/2023 12:47

Right, so that’s three of us. I’d say that qualifies as a statistically significant minority group*

I’ll just check my diary then we can announce National Tunnockself Awareness Day, Tunnockself Pride Month, the Tunnockself March (venues to be confirmed but the route will include several Tunnock-vending outlets) and so on.

Can someone design a flag?

I’m not under the table I’m in your treat cupboard. I did have to empty it to fit in with my rapidly expanding Tunnockstummy

'Haggis, the national dish of Scotland, a type of pudding composed of the liver, heart, and lungs of a sheep (or other animal), minced and mixed with beef or mutton suet and oatmeal and seasoned with onion, cayenne pepper, and other spices. The mixture is packed into a sheep’s stomach and boiled.'

Disgusting. I rest my case.

That’s just what they tell tourists. Everyone else knows they’re crafty wee mountain-dwelling beasties who require careful hunting.

Chersfrozenface · 12/07/2023 12:55

Can someone design a flag?

Surely it would look like this, only much, much bigger.

The hoist would obviously be shorter side.

Mmmmmmm (honestly no piss taking) your description is just so nice!

Adds haggis to tomorrow's shopping delivery.

Thinking about Tunnocks (and who doesn't?) has led me to think about the other things that we should be grateful to Scotland for. Obviously, the Enlightenment was A Good Thing and the principle of empirical anatomy has come in handy. Then there are the ideas of hygiene in hospitals and public sewage systems. Who could overlook Tarmac? But I believe that the ultimate contribution that Scotland has made to the health and happiness of us all is the Arbroath Smokie.

59 people posted so far. Whats 3 as a population percentage of 59 people?

JanesLittleGirl · 12/07/2023 13:04

5%

Many years ago when I lived somewhere far far far way from Scotland my sister rang from her Scottish holiday to insist I must stay home the next day as I HAD to be in to receive a parcel.

Next day a special delivery turns up.

Yep! Instead of the usual postcard you would expect she had sent me a box of Arbroath Smokies. Never have I loved her more than on that day!

Oh, I thought we all just liked tunnocks?

I do, but find them a bit sickly to eat very often, nowadays. And I started a keto diet, on Monday.

I introduced them to my wife, some years ago (she's from another country). She wasn't convinced with the first one, but later, I found her at the kitchen table, in a field of tinfoil and cardboard debris, looking like Augustus Gloop's sister.

She's never touched them since.

By that calculation, Tunnockselves make up 5.08% of the thread. Extrapolate that out to the entire population (of 67,736,802 according to Google careful research) and that makes 3,444,244.17 of us.

Tunnockselves unite! We will be oppressed no longer!

(Please could the 0.17 person make up their mind, this is not a part-time position)

Does anyone remember those giant Tunnocks? Were they at the London Olympics opening ceremony?

EdithStourton · 12/07/2023 13:16

I'm sitting here having to make do with chocolate buttons. It's probably 10 miles to the nearest Tunnocks outlet

I have a sadness now.

That website has a Tunnocks Collection, 73 different products! Even toddler denim jackets with tea cakes on.

Boiled I bet your wrapper collection is worth a fortune, insure it fast, and eat more to add to its worth.

I always get strange looks when I mention my Tunnocks addiction but have obviously found my people

Tunnocks also ended up in the bad books of Nicola Sturgeon’s rabid Scots Nats during the indyref & they tried to cancel Tunnock too but they didn’t acquiesce Star

cannot bear the (rarely seen) caramel log!

www.tebayservices.com/

They do their best to source local produce, it's a great local company.

I've just checked on a map and was surprised to find Uddingston is outside Glasgow, I could have sworn it was outside Edinburgh. What am I thinking of? Haddington? Duddingston?

Chersfrozenface · 12/07/2023 13:25

The giant teacakes were at the opening ceremony of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, it seems.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/07/2023 13:26

Chersfrozenface · 12/07/2023 13:18

Ahem...

I wonder what happened to them after the ceremony was over?

Uddingston is 3hrs38min from me by car and 4hrs30-ish by public transport.

BlackForestCake · 12/07/2023 13:33

Uddingston is a small town to the right of Glasgow, Duddingston is a suburb of Edinburgh.

I am not sure about your plans for road trips to the Tunnock's shop. It's no Betty's.

Chersfrozenface · 12/07/2023 13:33

I wonder what happened to them after the ceremony was over?

According to the Daily Record in 2014, they were auctioned off.

"THE giant dancing Tunnock's teacakes that proved a hit at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony have been put up for auction.
People can now bid to win one of the oversized marshmallow snacks on an official Games auction website."

And at least one was offered for resale in 2020, hoped-for price £2,000.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/07/2023 13:39

The little person in the bottom left appears to have eaten hers and the guy in the bottom right is also getting stuck in!

Somanyquestionstoaskaboutthis · 12/07/2023 13:46

That picture makes my username very apt. It’s slightly scary to look at.
@IcakethereforeIam either you also live near me and Igmum and the traffic is bad or Tunnocks is at the exact centre of our universe.
Blackforest I can stop at Betty’s on the way past if it helps. And Booths.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/07/2023 13:52

Tunnocks is the star we orbit?
