I’m gutted, I’m such a huge fan of his. I’ve been hugely looking forward to the second series of Good Omens.

And now this. When challenged on it, apparently he said “I’m OK, TERFs can’t climbs stairs”.

How very disappointing.

I assume it’s a riff on the fact that people used to say that to get away from a Dalek you just had to climb some stairs because they are on wheels. This doesn’t really work anymore because Daleks can now fly.

Wasn’t this in one of Eddie Izzard’s stand up routines?

Back when Eddie was funny?

NOOOOO 😱 I love David Tennant. Took DD to see him in Good and it was amazing. Bugger, bugger, bugger.

It's OK. You can separate David Tennant the very good actor from David Tennant the total numpty on the subject of sex and gender.

Luckily I never watched a single Eddie Izzard routine, so wasn’t bothered when he came out as an absolute twerp.

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/07/2023 11:41

Read the room David.

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/07/2023 11:46

Daleks are genetically modified.

Just saying.

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/07/2023 11:50

I'm worried about the generation of young people who will be unable to manage for themselves whilst living with disabilities as side effects from tampering with hormones and genital surgeries and breast amputations.

David is wearing a special magic T-shirt promoting these surgeries.

David is a disgrace.

DoIWantToGetIntoThisHere · 12/07/2023 11:57

I’d say he’s read the room and is on the side of, what will be, his forthcoming audience demographic ie. young girls with short hair wearing quizzical expressions, bow ties and braces and middle-aged, male computer-programmers sitting at home in their Dr Who slippers and silky camisole tops. A certain ex-newsreader named after a country bordering Pakistan, will be besides themselves as Dr Who and the Daleks apparently elicited their first big O after they had their surgery.

And life at home would be far too problematic if he didn’t nail his colours to the mast.

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/07/2023 12:02

It's the TRAs screaming EXTERMINATE at women after all.

These people are practically owned by these large corporations. Contracts, reputation. Your career rests on things like that, is it still the BBC he's with? The ones who protected Saville?

Every single person who signs a record deal or TV deal is corruptible and even if they don't believe the things they say they have to say them.

I think he's a brilliant actor and when I watch him I don't see DT, I see whoever he is playing, and that's the great thing.

I listen to R Kelly's music and watch people on TV I know are probably highly unsavoury in some of the worst possible ways, because their art is not them.

The BBC? Bloody hell, that's clutching at straws. He's an actor, he goes where the work is. He's just about to do Macbeth...you going to have a go at The Donmar too?

fromorbit · 12/07/2023 14:31

I am afraid David is missing the point. There are fascinating parallels between Doctor who lore and what is going on.

Davros, the creator of the Daleks, was a fanatic and crippled medical genius who believed genetic experimentation could produce a new superior form of life one focused on violence and domination. Notice that Davros is also a male obsessed with creating life, he wants to give birth, he aims to eliminate the pesky women from reproduction, and also compassion, nuturing, and love. Daleks have no mother only the worst father you can imagine. His own creations, exterminate him, because they learned only hate from him and cannot tolerate dissent, but continue in a never ending cycle of violence.

Davros: Today, the Kaled race has ended, consumed in a fire of war, but, from its ashes will rise a new race. The supreme creature. The ultimate procreator of the universe: THE DALEKS! The action you take today is the beginning of a journey that will take the Daleks to their destiny of universal and absolute supremacy.

Also I note that it is important that Daleks are NON-BINARY and asexual.

Their pronouns are IT.

The thing is the Daleks always lose. The key to their defeat is their lack of humanity, love of violence and threats, inability to accept to dissent, or imagine things differently and need to enforce uniformity on the world.

Same reason that our side will win the Gender Wars.

His latest production is with Prime. So is he suddenly owned by them? Broadchurch was on ITV. When did he stop being owned by them.

The simple fact is that, like all actors, he is self-employed and not owned by anyone who happens to buy a production that he is cast in.

David is a disgrace.

Wearing a shirt telling people to leave trans children alone is not evidence that the wearer promotes surgeries.

Daleks are fictional characters invented in 1963, 8 years before Tennant was born.

Just saying.

He is a Scot who rose to fame by playing a Sci-fi character with an English accent. It will be a cold day in Hell before I give credence to anything he says IRL.

What is the relevance of his being Scottish? We wouldn't be being racist, would we?

Absolutely not. Most Dr Whos have played the role in their native accent. Paul McCann's Liverpool, Christopher Eccleston's Salford and Peter Capaldi's Glasgow stand out in my mind. My point was that DT added an otiose layer of make-believe by performing in RP.

Put yourself in his position. His kid has been sucked into this. And he is probably trying to show his support.

He will know that you can't change sex. I imagine this is his very poor, privileged way of showing his kid he's not a 'bigot'.

It's disappointing but entirely unsurprising.

I say this as the mother of a son who is in the throes of it, dating a transman. It's fucking hard work and kids know how to manipulate their parents with this stuff now. I imagine he's doing what he thinks will salvage his relationship with his child.

Just out of curiosity how does that work? Is his partner a woman who wants to be a man and in that case is your son gay? I just don’t get it.

TheSilveryPussycat · 12/07/2023 16:32

Eddie didn't invent the daleks and stairs joke. It was common among school children not too long after the daleks first appeared.

RufustheSpecuIatingreindeer · 12/07/2023 16:59

Tennant is my favourite Dr

Actor plays role as directed. Shock horror are you saying he was told to do it in an English accent?

Iwasafool · 12/07/2023 10:24

Sometimes (maybe a lot of the time) kids like going against what their parents/teachers/people in authority think. I can well understand a parent saying "yes dear that's fine, shall we sort out the shopping list now" rather than trying to convince them they can't be trans or even worse getting angry about it.

Yeah except I imagine DT and his wife saying “yes dear, that’ll be a good angle and certainly get you on in the business, I’ll phone my friends at the BBC and see if they can’t find you a part on Casualty…” Attention seeking twats.

ApocalipstickNow · 12/07/2023 17:24

Daleks have been able to fly since the Sylvester McCoy days (also a Scot).

Doesn’t contribute anything, just my nerd-dar going off.

I’m sorry.
