I’m gutted, I’m such a huge fan of his. I’ve been hugely looking forward to the second series of Good Omens.

And now this. When challenged on it, apparently he said “I’m OK, TERFs can’t climbs stairs”.

How very disappointing.

To be fair to David ( if I must 🙄) he didn't say that, it was posted by a parody David Tennant account on twitter.

Oh I missed this - that’s good to know.

Tinysoxx · 12/07/2023 09:16

I hope the Tennants are looking at this. They must analyse language and what the words mean all the time whilst acting, especially theatre acting. Freaks is unusual, out of the norm.

They must know the t-shirt could be taken both ways. Most parents know that children are testing the boundaries of stuff, are influenced by social media, and are scared of puberty changes.

What about:

Leave tomboys alone you absolute freaks
Leave lgb kids alone you absolute freaks
Leave kids alone you absolute freaks

or adding a bit to make it clearer (bearing in mind kids might call themselves trans kids so allowing a bit of self expression):

Leave trans kids’ bodies alone you absolute freaks

although I prefer it without the trans.

ChaToilLeam · 12/07/2023 09:19

He’s a twit, his wife is a twit, I just hope the kid will be okay. Parents shouldn’t encourage this nonsense.

Kevinscousin · 12/07/2023 09:27

There is no such thing as a non binary child, ffs. What a plonker Mr Tennant is.

FoodCentre · 12/07/2023 09:30

The great thing about this is that TERFs can also wear it. Truly inclusive

What a dickhead. TBF, I was never a big fan so this doesn't bother me the way some others have (thinking of Margaret Atwood for example).

Puckthemagicdragon · 12/07/2023 09:51

Why can't TERFS climb stairs?

Froodwithatowel · 12/07/2023 09:53

Puckthemagicdragon · 12/07/2023 09:51

Why can't TERFS climb stairs?

Because they're all middle aged white rich pearl clutching right wing extremist (and presumably therefore American) oldies who'll be dead soon, and other prejudiced bullshit that permits the escaping of reality or responsibility.

DoIWantToGetIntoThisHere · 12/07/2023 10:03

He has a child that is obviously steeped in this. He’s in a franchise that many, many children and teens adore with its ‘regeneration’ theme. He’s at the heart of many a fan-fiction teen fantasy. And he’s now joined the illustrious cast of Harry Potter actors who have also made career-saving proclamations of support for this demographic.

His child is probably delighted that their Dad wore this T-shirt. He doesn’t give a shit what anyone else thinks.

I am totally unsurprised by this.

Guess you're never likely to know. Although he comes over as highly intelligent & very able to hold his own

I'm sure Tom Cruise is reasonably intelligent, but that doesn't mean he could defend Scientology because he is starting with the disadvantage of having to defend something crazy.

He is a Scot who rose to fame by playing a Sci-fi character with an English accent. It will be a cold day in Hell before I give credence to anything he says IRL.

Actor acts - absolutely shocking!

Sex is a biological construct, you can't change your DNA so no you can't your sex, gender is a social construct though. Gender is how someone presents themselves and that can be changed. I don't agree with medicating children - and certainly not without indepth evaluations and assessments and multiple doctors agreeing that it's the right course of action for that individual - but I've seen the abuse that many of these children face. And not from their peers who are generally pretty accepting, but from adults who should know better.

Some of the things said to children - who are confused, and scared, and hurting and in need of major support - are disgusting. There isn't any funding for mental health support in this country, CAMHS are absolutely diabolical and just tell suicidal children to have a cup of tea and a bath. Waiting lists are ridiculously long. There needs to be more support available, but there also needs to be recognition that some children do feel this way and forcing those children to ignore it and telling they're wrong for feeling that way isn't going to help them. I don't know what the answer is, but the vitriol aimed at some of these children (and anyone who is transgender, or even believes that transgender people are still human in some cases!) Is not the answer.

Can you provide receipts/ evidence for the 'vitrol' faced by trans youth from adults. Because I have never, ever seen any. Unless saying sex is real is 'vitriol' and I'd argue that encouraging children in the delusion that people differing in opinion from them is 'vitriol' is actually pretty harmful.

Yes CAMHS is completely unfit for purpose however what I'm seeing is that children fixate on trans as a solution to all their problems and in many cases are enabled in this when usually they have complex other issues that need addressing, and aren't supported at all with these once 'trans' is mentioned (very much what Cass found). I've never, ever seen anyone say that a child is 'wrong' for feeling this way. I've seen people say that drugs and surgery won't fix their problems, however.

I agree some of the things said to children are diabolical and I'd include in that the absolute lack of mental health support (the 'have a cup of tea and a bath' type response) and also that everyone is against them and wants them to die - when actually those people pushing back against affirmation only are exactly the people who actually care and want to safeguard those children against irreversible harm.

You can't just say 'adults are saying terrible things to children' without providing evidence that it's true. I've never, ever seen it or evidence of it.

Calling women who want to safeguard children slurs, on the other hand, I've seen a lot.

Umm, isn't it supposed to be a play on Daleks can't climb stairs?

Middle aged millionaire David Tennant told a joke painting his political opponent - which I presume he learned from his beyond privileged child - as the out of touch elite? I never fancied him as much of an intellectual capacity but this is hysterical.

He is a Scot who rose to fame by playing a Sci-fi character with an English accent.
It's called acting.
He had already been in Takin' over the asylum, Blackpool and Casanova before getting the Tardis role.
Loved him in There she goes and am looking forward to Good Omens 2.
If he wants to support his kid publicly, that's his choice.

I loved Takin' Over the Asylum. Brilliant programme dealing so well with a subject that isn't often aired well. It wasn't all David Tennant though, the whole cast were great.

That would make a lot more sense. Thanks for nerdsplaining!

Damn. He was one I really liked too.

He doesn't have social media, only his wife does.

Does this mean I have to boycott the doctor who specials this year now?! Why David why?! 😫

I've boycotted it for years because it's shit.

There is no such thing as a non binary child, ffs. What a plonker Mr Tennant is.

Sometimes (maybe a lot of the time) kids like going against what their parents/teachers/people in authority think. I can well understand a parent saying "yes dear that's fine, shall we sort out the shopping list now" rather than trying to convince them they can't be trans or even worse getting angry about it.

thatsaysfriedricenotnoregrets · 12/07/2023 10:25

These people are practically owned by these large corporations. Contracts, reputation. Your career rests on things like that, is it still the BBC he's with? The ones who protected Saville?

Every single person who signs a record deal or TV deal is corruptible and even if they don't believe the things they say they have to say them.

I think he's a brilliant actor and when I watch him I don't see DT, I see whoever he is playing, and that's the great thing.

I listen to R Kelly's music and watch people on TV I know are probably highly unsavoury in some of the worst possible ways, because their art is not them.

SmartHome · 12/07/2023 10:39

His child isn't non binary. There's no such thing. His child is a male human and a boy. Perhaps a particularly non-gender conforming boy that likes acting and doesn't like playing Rugby, 9r perhaps just brought up in a household where acting is at the fore, but that's all personality differences. Perhaps starting to realise he might be attracted to the same sex, but that's sexuality and nothing to do with sex. What he really means is 'my child is special and not as boring and proletariat as you plebs and your standard children'. Pathetic.

I have 4 boys and they are all incredibly different, with different personalities, different hobbies, different likes and dislikes. One is a theatre school kid who also plays Rugby, and no, he is not the one who might like boys. None of them are anything other than boys and young men FFS!

David Tennant isn't even on Twitter- the one making the Dalek joke was a fan account, not actually him!
