Nancy Kelly who said 'we never said stop calling women women'...that Nancy Kelly, who issued clear guidance as part of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index on not calling women women?

SinnerBoy · 10/07/2023 16:36

What's non binary awareness week? Do they have to pull their heads out of their arses and look at what's going on?

I think it’s yet another reminder of the Special Glitter “Look at me, I’ve got a LABEL” People. I mean, Pride ended a full 10 days ago so it’s high time everyone had a refresher on correct think.

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/07/2023 16:39

Rats, ships and sinking spring to mind

Plunkplink · 10/07/2023 16:44

I wonder if they will take the opportunity to focus on actual gay, lesbian and bi people. Seen that LGB might be ready to step in.

"I leave this job as the anti-gender / anti-rights movement is running rampant around the globe, and the transphobic moral panic created here in the UK is being exported everywhere. The time for us all to stand up is *long past. We need your help"

Finally the push-back is being felt and registered. Maybe the blocking of Gender Self Id in Germany contributed?

I can't see this statement on the Twitter link, is it from elsewhere?

Froodwithatowel · 10/07/2023 16:59

Transphobic moral panic?

No Nancy. I just don't sleep with blokes and need you and this mad movement to get over it.

And to get over that women's equality and access means that men are going to have to hear the word 'no' sometimes instead of requiring the entire world to revolve around them and screaming about punching anyone who thwarts them.

And that children fucking need leaving alone by adults with major political agendas.

'Panic'. 🙄

ResisterRex · 10/07/2023 16:59

This seems rather strange. Especially against NK's own tweets opining that everything is such a mess and she's off. Is she a "great campaigner" or not? If so, a few policy changes or a vague statements about Things Abroad But Lacking In Specificity don't feel like much of a tribute:

It's from her twitter account.....scroll down a fair bit

Has anybody here seen Kelly 🎶
Kelly from the Isle of Man 😲

Under Nancy’s leadership Stonewall has achieved tangible, life-changing impacts for LGBTQ+ people

What would these be then? I would say it's 3 years of total failure on all counts.

Maybe they mean how she's managed to reverse the tide of LBG and yes, T acceptance in the UK by her bull-headed insistence on pushing for the most homophobic, sexist, regressive and reactionary version of trans acceptance. That will sadly have a tangible impact on LBGT people. Just not at all a good one.

RedToothBrush · 10/07/2023 15:47

It's interesting she's gone the week of Mermaids car crash and the Allison Bailey costs decision.

Of all the other 51 weeks she could have picked, why this one?

Exactly!

She's been pushed out for her terrible decisions.

RebelliousCow · 10/07/2023 17:11

When you are not just campaigning for equal civil rights, but for totalitarian ideological imposition, what do you expect?

For many years Stonewall got away with it. Being funded by public bodies, but with no public accountability; enforcing no debate; and a secretive hand in inserting this ideology into all of our institutions and organisations.

It does feel gratifying that the The U.K grassroots movement has been both influential and instrumental in helping to turn the tide around the world. We've a long way to go yet......and any incoming Labour government is going to be a very big challenge that we all need to be prepared for.

TheGreatATuin · 10/07/2023 17:12

It does seem sudden, especially the announcement coming this week. I do wonder if there's been internal turmoil at Stonewall. Surely there are at least some people left there who believe in gay rights?

NicCageisnotNickCave · 10/07/2023 17:13

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/07/2023 16:27

My money is on her going to the Labour Party.

Seat in the Lords next to her predecessor?

Bixs · 10/07/2023 17:14

Good to see she created a handy list of the failures of Stonewall under her leadership

ItWasPeculiarButBearable · 10/07/2023 17:19

She’s clearly been given the opportunity to leave on her own terms; she’ll likely be getting a nice wee payoff too. Her Twitter thread screams ‘fuck you, look what you’re missing’ to the board who’ve kicked her out.

TheGreatATuin · 10/07/2023 17:20

If I'm cynical, it might also down to funding decreasing. Organisations have been dropping Stonewall training left, right and centre and with the Bailey decision, its possible they've lost even more. Getting tangled with Stonewall is now a financial risk.
They'll also almost certainly have lost small donations from their core supporter base of the LGB. I suspect a lot of people have simply quietly stopped their DDs.
I wonder when their accounts are published.

AutumnCrow · 10/07/2023 17:26

littlbrowndog · 10/07/2023 16:11

Fuckety- bye Nancy

Or as Mr Bennett said,

"That will do extremely well, child. You have delighted us long enough. Let the other young ladies have time to exhibit."

Bailey does seem to have destroyed the business model. Here’s our great advice; follow it and end up paying aggravated damages in circumstances of maximum public embarrassment.
thank you, no.

fromorbit · 10/07/2023 17:34

She was getting paid around 100 grand for being CEO I believe. To be honest she was a gift to our side. Not particularly convincing publicly and nowhere near as cunning as Ruth Hunt at winning support behind the scenes.

Wonder who the next person will be. With any luck it will be a person mainly in it to make some cash who will mouth the right noises but will not do anything effective, or a bungling zealot who will alienate more people. Too much to hope it will be someone sane.

AutumnCrow · 10/07/2023 17:41

Can you imagine who'll be applying? My fever dream shortlist will end up looking like

Fox botherer
A soon-to-be former BBC employee
LOJ
Wee Mhairi
Nic and Peter (job share)
Dr Christian

JanesLittleGirl · 10/07/2023 17:41

Can I nominate Sarah Jane Barker as the ideal candidate?

Yeah, I was just thinking about this today.

Stonewall has been acting like a standards body for diversity but isn't one. So companies who are used to following defined standards bodies and regulators just assumed following Stonewall's standards was best practice and would ensure they avoid discrimination claims. Through the Baily and LGBA cases they are seeing now that it isn't that at all, and that not only Stonewall can and will give them advice that can lead to discrimination claims, but "we were following Stonewall best practice" isn't going to fly as a defense when those claims arise.
