Allison BAiley has just posted that GArden Court Chambers has been ordered to pay 20000 costs, although the chambers wanted her to pay their costs. Another day for good news. Cheers Allison

I think giddy on a Friday of a week like this is just fine ☺️

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 07/07/2023 21:53

thank you @MerlinsLostMarbles, it is important to keep a keen sense of which points did and didn't succeed, the fact she's appealing that particular decision wouldn't make any sense at all if it had already succeeded.

Stonewall successfully argued that they didn't know what they were talking about and no-one least of all a chamber of barristers should assume their advice is legal. That didn't sound like great pr to me given that selling advice seems to be their main revenue stream these last 10 years, but yeah you can call it a victory if you're happy with that.

:)

This is as far as I got:

Double, double toil from bundle;
Fire burn and Jolyon bubble.
Fillet of a fanny snake,
In the courtroom boil and bake;
Eye of naught and toe the line,
Bat the fox and tongue of whine,

Grin Shaping up nicely!

When at last the case is lost
Stonewall makes you count the cost.

I would also like to know who the solicitors responsible for this debacle were. I would hate to inadvertently instruct them on something

I don't know who they were but, in their defence, they could only construct the bundle from the material provided to them. If the main issue was a single, 1000-page PDF of emails, this may have been GCC's fault, for providing it to the solicitors in that format. At the very least, GCC must have been aware of the flaws in the bundle and could have intervened.

Merry Terfs poke lots of fun
At Jolyon's battles - never won

Boiled you are naughty

But with my pedant head on, as a published author you should surely know it's 'bound', not 'binded' 😂

published. Me! 😁 still makes me laugh!

it was formulated for particular comments in a rush many moons ago now. Although I think one/ some my original comments using it was deleted. Can't think why that would happen!

Leave her alone. She got slung out of English at school. Actually, she can stand up for herself.

There's that as well!

Boiledbeetlelovesbeautifullybindedbundles · 07/07/2023 22:21

Eyes up poem forming up thread... We still need poems for volume two you know!

Feel free to change to your heart's content, living in their heads and paying no rent. have at it :)

Double, double toil from bundle,
Fire burn and Jolyon bubble,
In the courtroom boil and bake,
No one believes the fanciful take,
Motte and Bailey makes no sense,
Alison's judgement breaks the pretense,
When at last the case is lost,
Stonewall makes you count the cost,
Merry Terfs poke lots of fun,
At Jolyon's battles, never won,
Garden Court is very fraught,
Bundle padded, not as it aught,
Tribunual awards the maximum allowed,
Joylon denies he has been beclowned,

Plunkplink · 07/07/2023 22:59

losing is winning
and being jolly is sad

"Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the rights-hoarding dinosaurs of war. Those ovarian dinosaur eggs are transphobic don't you know? Sperm is just smaller eggs produced in greater volumes, men are better egg producers than non-men. More nutritious too, especially if you are passing bodily fluids onto infants. What's not to love?

dunBle · 07/07/2023 23:18

I'm tempted to retire this username now, but perhaps I should wait until the Stonewall appeal is done. It's definitely telling that Alison got the maximum costs possible for that type of hearing.

As for the verse, very enjoyable, but rhyming bundle with bubble is setting my teeth on edge. Perhaps "Fire burn and tumbril trundle"?

lechiffre55 · 07/07/2023 23:20

How about
Fire burn and Jolyon grumble.
?
Feel free to chip in.

lechiffre55 · 07/07/2023 23:24

Having googled tumbril, I love that word very much especially in the context.

Just so everyone is clear, she lost her case against Stonewall.

https://www.stonewall.org.uk/about-us/news/stonewall-statement-outcome-allison-bailey-case

Just to be clear Stonewall, the homophobic bunch that has been deserted by some of its founding members, is still on the hook whilst Allison's appeal is decided.

Regardless of the success of that appeal, some things will be remembered forever. Not least the appalling incompetence of Stonewall, its employees, and the reliance of one of their key staff on their emotional support dog and their mother - something that only became apparent when the court requested that everyone in the room be visible via the camera, and was concealed by their legal team until the outing of the truth became inevitable.

Stonewall's relationship with the truth was pretty much encapsulated by that one event.

Good excuse to post the original

Witches' Chant (from Macbeth)

1st Witch:
Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

2nd Witch:
Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.

3rd Witch
Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!

1st Witch:
Round about the cauldron go:
In the poisoned entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Sweated venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first in the charmed pot.

All:
Double,double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

2nd Witch:
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blindworm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing.
For charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

All:
Double,double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and couldron bubble.

3rd Witch:
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witch's mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd in the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat; and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,-
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For ingredients of our cauldron.

All:
Double,double toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

2nd Witch:
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.
